President Prime Time: The Show Must Go On

If Obama ever has to confront a serious national emergency, he's going to need to schedule a weekend telethon just so he can rachet it up a notch. The WH should consider starting their own QVC-like channel. Michelle could sell off historical trinkets collected on America's behalf over the years to start bringing down the debt, then once every two weeks, or so, Obama could guest host to peddle his latest junk.

Seriously, I'm getting the feeling the American people aren't going to buy much of anything from this guy before his four years are up. If Billy Mays were stilll alive, he'd probably hire him as a consultant just to get some tips. That Vince Shlomi dude has something of a tarnished reputation these days, though he might actually be a better fit for this WH now that I think about it.

President Barack Obama will address a joint session of Congress on health care reform in prime time on Wednesday, Sept. 9, a senior official tells POLITICO.

Obama will receive House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid at the White House the day before for a previously scheduled sit-down.

The last time a president addressed a joint session of Congress that wasn’t a State of the Union, or the traditional first address by a new president, was Sept. 20, 2001, when President George W. Bush spoke on the war on terrorism following the 9/11 attacks.

Personally, I am glad the President is finally going to be speaking out on health care reform. We are way overdue for a frank conversation from the President on this issue. It has been too long since his major health care reform speeches on June 15, July 17, his major health care reform press conference on July 22, his heath care reform town hall meetings in Wisconsin (June 11), at the White House (June 24), North Carolina and Virginia (July 29) , New Hampshire (Aug 11), Montana (August 14), Colorado (August 15) and maybe a few other major speeches and media events that I might have missed.

This time the President will be telling us what he wants to see in health care reform now, as opposed to what he wanted to see during the campaign, or David Axelrod's chain-mail of August 13 outlining in detail what the administration expected to see from health care reform then.

Speaking of which - I am doing my part. I have been diligently forwarding David's chain-mail to every e-mail address I can find as he requested. It is the right thing for every American to do.
