There's a heck of a lot less substance in this Politico item on a change in strategy then some people appear to believe. True, one can read a lot into it. But it isn't really clear if he's going to make demands, or punt to Congress on health care. The only sure thing seems to be that he's going to give a speech. As if that isn't something we've heard before.
Aides to President Barack Obama are putting the final touches on a new strategy to help Democrats recover from a brutal August recess by specifying what Obama wants to see in a compromise health care deal and directly confronting other trouble spots, West Wing officials tell POLITICO. Read more:
Maybe he'll finally get his legs under him. It's hard to say. But he'll have to show something if he wants to create the impression that he has any clue at all how to get things done in Washington. Given his history, I doubt a speech is going to do much to turn things around. That ship has sailed and is now packed away with those faux-Grecian columns somewhere.

This guy gives more goddamn speeches than Castro. He's like a black Dr Phil, all over the place, everywhere we look, there he is.

Speaking of speeches, this is very disturbing.

Giving another speech when the public already thinks you're badly overexposed is pure genius.

I guess this is what passes for "genius" in the West Wing. Yeah, let's see Obama's "specifics." David Axelrod still doesn't understand that specifics always get His Personal Savior into trouble quicker than s*** slides through a Christmas goose's lower colon. Hell, I'll bet Mitch McConnell is gleefully rubbing his hands and cackling with fiendish delight even as I type this. Why? Because The Boy President's "specificity" will simply create a whole new crop of fat, juicy targets for the GOP to blow out of the water.
Poor Li'l Barry: when he was vague about "healthcare reform" he was f***ed, and now that he's actually getting specific, he's going to be doubly-f***ed.
What's not to like?

the speeches worked early on, because that was all the public had to judge him by.
after eight months, there isn't a speech he could give that would mask his(?) brief record of policy decisions.

funny things happen when one's approval hits 45%, and the generic advantage goes to +7 for the gop.
how bad is it?
when the majority leader of the senate says kennedy's death with help pass healthcare, the day before the president drops his support for the public option...
how many lukewarm dems, went home to get yelled at, only to watch the president come back from his 'vacation' and back away from the plan they were sent out to support?
forget a speech to the national audience, his party is starting to hate him.

Can you say Carter?
Posted by: xerocky | Wednesday, September 02, 2009 at 03:29 PM
please, you not being fair to carter.
carter increased govt spending over his term, 17.2%.
barry's there in his first annual budget.
carter had 9.4% growth, and barry won't clear 7%, especially in light of double digit unemployment.
carter actually decreased the debt, but after a post vietnam war draw down, revenue was freed up.
Barry bumps our debt/gdp % from 100% to 150%, for his first term.
obama is going to go down as the worst president, ever.

I can't believe the libs are connecting Kennedy's name to this Obamascare. If he had been under the program he would not, in his mid 70's, gotten the care he reieived. Take a few pain pills and get out of the way would be the care given under Obamascare. What hypocrites! How about congres and the pres being included under Obummer's program? Why not? Is it because they know what poor coverage they are planning for the rest of us? The only thing they should do in Kennedy's name is inact term limits!

"obama is going to go down as the worst president, ever."
John Tyler had that distinction, but I agree completely. Barry hasn't even learned to curb the adlibs. He's just shown no growth into the office(that of 'Dear Leader'). How far can Axelrod and Emmanuel carry this cadaver?
Carter and Tyler were outsiders as this One. The Donks and Media had misgivings months ago, now they're doing a slow burn, in twelve months it could be open war attempting to salvage their careers.

A speech on his healthcare plans is completely inadequate.
The government demands detailed, researched Environmental Impact Statements before starting a building. We should have Official Policy Impact Statements before our representatives change our society.
We need proposed results, expected evolution, methods, justifications, comparative studies, past successes of similar policy, funding sources, expected difficulties, the works.
I hope people of all parties and positions could agree that this is fundamental. It is non-partisan to demand that the President and all politicians show how they have carefully researched their proposals.
No company can run without books of account. No government can write legislation without a plan in the background. The plan is there. Let's see Obama's written plan. Then, he can talk about it.
Where is the policy paper, Obama's research on healthcare reform?
