I Am Joe Wilson

An unfortunate breech of protocol at last night's Obama speech. This below was my first basically unfiltered reaction during Obama's address after, frankly, I was angry at having to listen to Obama's obvious distortions and out right lies.

 Will a public plan cover me if watching this idiot lie makes me sick?

Via Doug Ross are some of the more obvious lies. Given Wilson's understandable apology, I don't believe he intentionally set out to insult Obama, deserved, or not. I will say it was refreshing to see someone with a passion for truth unthinkingly inject some into a hall all too lacking in it last night thanks to Obama. In that sense, as cliche and leftist as it might sound, I very much am Joe Wilson in this case. And I am delighted to have seen at least one person there who actually spoke for me. It isn't as if I get to feel that during most Obama speeches, or even Congressional debates. So, I guess I am Joe Wilson. And I have absolutely no intention of apologizing for it to Obama, or anyone else.

Mr. Wilson seemed rattled in the wake of his comment, and quickly left the chamber at the end of the speech.

His office later issued an apology, saying: “This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the president’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill. While I disagree with the president’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility.”

Mr. Wilson also phoned the White House and reached Mr. Emanuel, who accepted an apology on behalf of the president.

Obama has lovely rhetoric about "working together," so why has he been shutting out the Republicans from discussions of HR 3200? I seem to recall the GOP trying to be involved in another bill, only to be told "Well, ~I~ won the election, so we're going to do it ~my~ way. So agree with me or shut up."

Set our egos aside. Well, certainly, especially when we're being called Right Wing Domestic Terrorists, Nazis, Talibani, racists, obstructionists, astroturf, etc, etc, etc.

YOU and the rest of your liberal ilk need to be grateful to our country and our Constitution that allows you spout anti-American nonsense and encourage corruption without being set in front of a firing squad. But no, you guys are too busy trying to destroy the Constitution that has protected you for the past 200+ years and made this the greatest country in the world.

Obama likes to push the meme that his hateful attitudes and corruption are due to his skin color, but frankly, I know plenty of black people who are intelligent, competent, emotionally-secure, truthful, honest, and hardworking individuals. Obama's problems are due solely to his own choices and bad character; the only way in which his skin color negatively affects him is the fact that it forces white liberals to enable and support him no matter how horribly he behaves.

Do you mean outright lies, like "death panels", or the inefficiency of Medicare versus private pay, or the horrendous systems in Canada, or the gov't funding abortion, or the gov't paying for illegal immigrants (even Consumer Reports calls this myth out). I have yet to see a Republican Congressman specifically point out a lie told by Obama.

As to loyalty to humanity, conservatives give more to charity than liberals ever do. How much have you given to charity this year?

More and more Americans -- especially the ones who must actually PAY for this -- are saying that this plan and this direction in general isn't what they want. Our elected officials (you know, the ones who are supposed to represent us) need to listen and get back to true American values of hard work and liberty. Redistribution of wealth appeals to the Che crowd, but as Margaret Thatcher so brilliantly said: "Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They always run out of other people's money."

Whether it's printing trillions and devaluing the dollar or just stripping it away with higher taxes and government forced "health insurance", this administration is hell bent on running out of MY money, and I'm tired of it.

That's what that speech was about: OK folks (lawmakers), we are just going to f------ do this.

Death panels are a term meant to encompass the concept of an unregulated, unelected body of people who will decide what treatments are approved and which are denied, like the NICE board in England. If you're unfamiliar with that group, I suggest you take some time to read up on them. Read in particular the policy -- since reversed, thankfully -- that certain glaucoma treatments were deemed "too expensive" until the person needing the treatment had GONE BLIND IN ONE EYE.

The point that Palin was trying to make, and that gets lost in the quibbling over the terminology, is that once the government is in charge of making the decisions on what is and isn't "necessary", that by definition you have people being denied treatment when they could have had it. It's probably hyperbolic in nature, but it does focus your attention, and it's no different than Obama preaching that if we don't do what he says, people will die.

All Americans want is a law that makes sense. Federal programs should contain rules that prohibit payments of American tax dollars to criminals... and ALSO contain internal control procedures to make sure those rules are followed.

For pete's sake, state and local government programs follow these guidelines (program rules + internal controls) when they received federal pass-through dollars...so why are Pelosi and Obama trying to act like it something not normally done? And the reason state and local governments follow these guideline is because it is REQUIRED to get a clean audit opinion (something unheard of at the federal level unfortunately).
