Many residents of what is known as the "jungle" have travelled thousands of miles and insist they have nowhere else to go.
But it is undersood the Calais camp will be evacuated early on Tuesday and the crude dwellings - including a temporary mosque - pulled down.

It's been going on for years. The Red Cross used to have a camp there but the French made them disband it as it was only encouraging more immigrants to show up. The thing is that the French are tough on them and won't give them any social services, so if they can manage to get to GB they get money, housing, etc. immediately.

I think that before they tear down the jungle, they should damm well put each and every one of them back on a plane for Afghanistan. Otherwise they'll just loiter.It's not enough to discourage them, you have to get them to where they need to go.
It's funny that the country that I currently live in, the United States, is to the left of France.

"camp" has been there for sometime.
Hmm they do take off August, so perhaps had to wait until they got back from
vacation to handle ;)

There is a bar which says "expand the comments section"-if you click it, it will show other comments from both the English opinions and the French perspective. Both sides feel that Engalnd is wrong for giving these people so many "rights" and both blame their own countries for not having tighter borders.

They get into Italy and then move through France, destination GB. Once they are in the Svengen 7 they seem to be free to roam. But GB requires a passport for entry so they sneak across the Channel either hiding in a truck on the ferry or by sneaking onto a train going through the Chunnel. The population of the area in Calais is fluid.

I was in Spain/Portugal 8 years ago a 40th bday gift, anyway it was a problem at that point, lisbon and costa del sol not safe after sun set what with all the illegals about. The EU by design was doomed to fail. Once you remove guns from people's hands blah blah nothing we don't know and why it is so critical we never give up this God given right.
