If the Republican leadership can't grow a set, or at least half a spine, then someone get them the hell out of there, now. I am so sick of these sniveling Republicans who don't have the strength, or courage to stand up for the truth. The Democrats certainly don't seem to have a problem pushing the Truth to Power meme. If the Republican leadership can't do it, they need to resign.
We sat here and played defense for you feckless jerks for years under Bush. Now for the first time we have the chance to go on offense and we're backing a bunch of cowardly political smurfs who care more about their DC perks and privileges than the damned truth.
Just get out if you can't stomach a fight. Because a great many of us are at the point where we can't stomach much more of you and your weak, insufferably lame leadership.
We don't give a damn about your special Club up on the Hill. If you don't have enough backbone to fight for what we believe in, than either shut up, resign, or wait until 2010 when we let all of you sorry clowns get thrown out on the street where you flippin' belong. There's too damned few of you left up there that are even worth a damn for us to worry much about you as it is.
Democratic leaders even delayed a vote to give Boehner time to sway his colleague, but it was a fool's errand. Wilson, in truth, just wasn't that sorry.
"I did have a conversation with Mr. Wilson," Boehner told the reporters, not denying that he had tried to elicit a public apology. "I'm not going to relay the contents of my private conversation with him."
"Are you disappointed he won't apologize on the House floor?"
"You'll have to talk to him," Boehner said sourly.
Reporters and camera operators, staking out Wilson's office since 6:30 a.m., finally did talk to the Republican from South Carolina when he left for a vote just before noon. He made it clear that even the apology he gave to the White House on Wednesday night was ordered by party leaders. "Well, I, uh, last night I heard from the leadership that they wanted me to contact the White House and, uh, say that, uh, my statements, uh, were inappropriate," he said in a soft drawl. "I did."

I love Republicans and conservatives because they are angry all the time over everything. I hope Conservatives keep shouting and complaining and I hope Medicare and Medicaid Recipients insist on Health Care for Them but not for anyone else.
Finally The GOP/Conservatives have a slogan: "You cannot have your ball back! It rolled on my lawn and it is mine! Now scram before I call the cops!"
Mega ditto's conformists! Rush and Hannity weep all day long and misery loves company!
Wilson/Palin in 2012, with Wilson's beloved Confederate Flag representing GOP/Conservative Thinking!!!!!

Boehner is getting to be too mercurial for me.
Sometimes he's right on target and I see sparks of genius (like the opposition to the ban on drilling last year) and other times...well, he makes me want to scream.
Just like he said regarding cap and trade, his response to get Wilson to grovel should be, "not just no but HELL no."
BTW...for those interested, here's a great perspective on how we should view Wilson's minor decorum faux pas:
http://drhelen.blogspot.com/2009/09/thank-you-joe-wilson.html
Thank you, Joe Wilson
When I woke up this morning and read the Drudge headline linking to a story that Republican Congressman Joe Wilson called Obama a liar, my only thought was "it's about time." It's about time that Republicans play by the only rule book that works--that of Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals that asks the question, "Does this particular end justify this particular means?" The answer in the case of Joe Wilson's truthful expose of Obama is "yes."
Republicans cannot get heard, the public is being lied to or ambushed about Obama's health care plan and the only thing that matters is that it not pass. Period. End of discussion. The MSM does not cover Republicans except in a negative light, Republicans are not even included in health care talks at the White House and they have nothing to lose as they are already in the minority. Shouting out during the President's speech forces the issue. It forces the MSM to cover it, just as bloggers and talk radio exposing Van Jones and his subsequent resignation forced the MSM to cover that story. Of course, the MSM will cover the Wilson story in a negative light, but in the back of many citizen's minds, they will wonder, "is Obama lying, is there some truth to what Wilson said?" At least someone is bringing this possibility to light.
Those of us who do not toe the liberal line must stand up--just like Mr. Wilson. We are all radicals now.

I don't know what to say anymore. Everytime I think the Right has reached the bottom of pathetic pusillanimity, a new low. But what really strikes me is the stupidity. The utter failure to learn anything about the Left. Did they really think an apology would mean anything to the Left but weakness? Did they really think the NY Times would appreciate their contrition? Did they not consider for a second the political possibilities in showing some guts and drawing out the case for the "lie" argument to the press and public, fearlessly, reasonably and to its logical end? Is there anybody in this party that listens to the people, that understands the war that's being waged against everything we stand for?

You go, Dan!
All Republicans should be furious about these wimpy fools who live high off the Washington hog with (R) after their names and do nothing for us.
Keep up the good fight!

Ah.....once again we have the classic dichotomy of the "Evil Party" vs. the "Stupid Party". Is it always Groundhog Day up on Capitol Hill?

There's a difference this time, Ad rem. Groundhog Day is long gone.

Good. Bring. It. On.
Wilson should go to the floor with a television set, and play the video of the Dem caucus booing Bush during the State Of The Union address in 2005. This should be followed by his reading the Associated Press fact check of Obama's speech to the Joint Session. The story is evidence that Obama is fact challenged. Pelosi has all but called the Tea Party liars, and Reid, Pelosi, and Obama have consistently talked about stopping the spread of lies about the healthcare bill. In order for their to be lies, there must be liars, so with their accusations, the three stooges just called a majority of Americans liars.
Wilson should bring the bill to the floor and begin to read it, challenging Nancy, Reid, and Pelosi to expose the lies they keep harping about. Every Senate and House member who participated in this slandering of the American public should be named. The public should be reminded that Senator Harry Reid called Bush a loser. Wilson should then state that he will apologize when Obama, Reid, Pelosi, every Democrat still seated today who booed Bush in 2005, and every member of the Senate and House who basically called us liars apologizes. Let's go on the record here. Stand up Rep. Wilson and give us a show. We want to see Nanny State Nancy go slinking back into her corner and shut her pie hole.

boehner should request a chance to address congress and the president simultaneously...
surely the president would show and the media would cover it. He was polite enough to sit thru the president's infomercial. The dems can even shout out their complaints. Surely if joe wilson did it once, the dems could get away with it 100 times.
let's be honest...over time, the wilson outburst won't be an opportunity for the dems to take a politcal high road and avoid doing the very thing they are whining about. This is the pandora's box, which now opened, invites all liberals to indulge. It will only justify their further and future descent.
an apology?
do I wait until obama has run up our debt another 9 trillion to expect an apology from democrats for bankrputing the country?
boehner should have taken the bull by the horns, and told the american public that the obama pep rally was an insult to congress. instead he is getting played like a fiddle.
deficit neutral? obama should have been laughed out of the room. forget wilson's outburst-the gop should have got up and walked out when he tried to pass off this delusion as a "plan".

Where's my boy Cantor? He's provided good leadership so far (0 GOP House votes for Obama's $780B monostrity).
Anyway, I hope the GOP speak out and say Obama did lie like the scumbag that he is.

Remember when Japan was busy buying up America? Does business still believe Japan has the best management system? I want to know why politicians still believe they should allow their adversaries to save face over telling the truth. You would think they might like to let their shoes dry instead of forever following in Teddy Kennedy's path of compromise.

Whats with you guys? The republicans are the party of Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt. The country is in a bad recession, Medicare and Social Security are broke and most republicans are on one or both including Sarah Palin who will get SS payments for her child, the Taliban are winning in Afghanistan and all you can talk about is Joe wilson' boorish behavior. The republican response to Obama's health care speech looked like some junior high school speech which was marginally better than the State of the Union speech where that idiot from Louisiana wanted to cut volcano watch funds just before the Alaskan volcano blew up. The country is tired of wackos like Sarah Palin, Rush, Savage and the like. If you call yourselves Republicans start offering a different better vision than the Democrats. As a long time conservative all I see is Republicans shouting Kill Medicare, kill Social Security, reduce taxes for the fat cats, spend like crazy when in power and point fingers when the other side spends, ignoring non white concern over economic and social problems, thinking lock them up and throw away the key is a successful crime policy, telling unemployed whites, blacks, and browns to tough it out,all the while waving tax protester signs claiming Obama wasn't born here. That doesn't do anything to change anybodies mind.

"As a long time conservative..." -- you sound more like a ranting liberal to me...

Snooper,
Thanks for posting re "The Falling Man" .....and yes, the "Marxist spider holes" are many!

Mark Turner,
I was thinking the same thing - I guess "mfellion" is a "conservative" the same way that Olympia Snowe, Snarlin' Arlen and Juan McAmnesty are "conservatives."
Hey, mfellion, since you apparently don't do much studying before you shoot off your big mouth, let me put you some truth - we SHOULD kill Medicare, AND Social Security, and you're goddamn right, locking criminals up IS a successful crime policy - why don't you check crime statistics, plotted against the advent of mandatory minimum sentencing and "three strikes" laws, hmmmm?
You're not a "conservative," you're just another "compassionate, big tent" Republican. Go join David Brooks, Chris Buckley and Crazy Andy Sullivan (your fellow "long time conservative") and get back to blowing Obama, since that's what you "long time conservatives" seem to enjoy most.

The country club Republicans believe in their survival first and the country second. They have always been this way. Remember, even though they aren't in power, they still manage to "get theirs." Even Newt is trying to ride two horses with one rear, while he tries to rake in the dough.
Corruption is an equal opportunity disease, and a "R" by the name is not a vaccine.
We need some rugged, honest, straight talking people in Congress. That is the guy/gal you send money to or vote for.
Posted by: rwisher | Friday, September 11, 2009 at 09:35 PM
We need to boot out more elected Rep incumbents -- but the Rep party faithful aren't yet ready for primary attacks on seated Reps.
The Reps, in practice, are allowing themselves to be bullied quite a bit. But it's not like they're principled, most don't seem to be.

Interesting thing I see here. In another thread I see the exact same post from the mfelloin entity. I guess he ran out of original thoughts after the 1st draft.
As to the weak kneed R guys in DC, I just hope that the Joe Wilson spirit can provide a clue to them to start saying out loud what they really think and quit worrying about what the shit for brains MSM says about what they say or do. Its not like they get votes from the clowns on that other side of the debate.Hell they cant even get seat at the table for any legislation so damn the torpedoes and LAUNCH LAUNCH LAUNCH
