Skylark says the exchange is not govt subsidized but it is

* "Offers a public health insurance option to provide the uninsured and those who can’t find affordable coverage with a real choice."

The proposed public option would not be government-subsidized, but supported by premiums, according to the CBO:

"The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said today that a draft of the so-called public option approved July 15 by a Senate panel would add some competitive pressure in insurance markets served by relatively few companies.

It would probably only have a 'small' impact on private insurance rates because the legislation would require a government program to be self-sufficient, meaning it would have to rely on premium revenue rather than tax dollars, the agency said. Such a plan would probably attract a 'substantial minority' of people enrolling, the agency said. "

The public option will be set up with 2 billion dollars in taxpayer money

"Under Section 222, the Secretary would set the premium to cover all benefit costs and projected administrative costs of the plan, as well as a "contingency margin." The bill would authorize an initial $2 billion for start-up costs and initial reserve requirements. Congressional sponsors insist that the public plan must be self-sustaining, based on its premium income."

You don't cite your source on that quote, but let's look at what HR 3200 itself says about that $2 billion in start up funding:

"SEC. 222. ....(b) ... (B) AMORTIZATION OF START-UP FUNDING- The Secretary shall provide for the repayment of the startup funding provided under subparagraph (A) to the Treasury in an amortized manner over the 10-year period beginning with Y1."

Wake up lefties and stop telling fairy tails about "the ones" health care con! Here in California it is illegal for illegal aliens to collect any form of public assistance. The libs will point this out every time some one complains that they beleive that they are indeed receiving tax payer funds. The big secret that the left here wants to keep under the covers is that it is also illegal for the case worker to ask anyone if they are here illegally!

How's that whole Prop 13 thing worked out for all you righties who shoved it down everyone's throat out in Cal, Lee? Doesn't seem to have had a long range positive effect on the state's finances, has it.

Before long, you'll just be the northern extension of Baja, dirt roads and all.

What happen to the 2million crowds? Or was that 70,000. And when most people who live in DC did not even know that a protest was going on, it had such little publicity and effect on the day to day.

To Michael Spencer:

And we don't even know how many of those were actually attending the National Black Family Reunion in another part of the Mall. Well, I guess you could tell in one rather obvious way.

I have done my own study, albeit revised, base on a devised stationary methodology and calculation which you can find here:

http://deathbymedia.wordpress.com/2009/09/22/912-washington-dc-tea-party-rally-crowd-estimation/

It's backed by visual evidence (pictures and clips) all available in the same entry, plus determining the boundaries of the rally and calculation of the final tally derived from the density of the crowd at each given block. My latest calculus puts the figures around 120k up to 135k.
