Yes, Andy believes yesterday's protests are all George Bush's fault. Old habits are hard to break, I guess. But why not go on to marginalize them just the same.
So what we have here is unhinged hysteria. I certainly think pent-up anger at Bush (which partisanship and religious devotion meant they could never vent) is a part of this; but the fact of a non-white, non-Southern effective president should not be discounted.
Let the marginalization begin. Andrew Sullivan stirs himself from a possibly hemp-induced stupor to pick up on some of the more troubling signage on display to make his additional points. So what if it was of historical size, clearly it was just a collection of racist birth conspiracists (Obama birthers only, please), vicious haters who couldn't hate Bush because he was white.
What is he high? Via the Boston Globe:
Andrew M. Sullivan, the British author, editor, and political commentator, is one of the best-known figures in the new-media elite, and his blog, The Daily Dish, is among the most popular on the Web. But a federal judge says Sullivan did not deserve preferential treatment from prosecutors who dropped a marijuana possession charge after the journalist was recently caught smoking a joint on a federally owned beach on Cape Cod.
Yes, predictably, the Left is so intimidated by the huge 9/12 protests, especially the massive one in DC, they are already pulling out all the stops to marginalize the day's events. It's only just beginning. Expect more, including efforts within the so-called mainstream media.
As Matthew Yglesias points out, these weren't really patriots who simply love and want to preserve the best of America. They were a collection of traitors, racists and gun nuts who don't care about the size of government, Obama's health care reforms, or government spending one bit. Nope! That can't be! Why, they aren't even policy wonks. What right do they even have to weigh in in America? They're just dumb, hate-filled racist citizens, dammit!
As was the case with the bulk of the protesters, there was very little sense that anyone had any actual specific complaint with Obama’s health care proposals. That one woman loves the confederacy. This guy thinks guns are great and diversity is stupid. Many protesters feel that abortion is murder and/or that Barack Obama is in league with terrorists. But nobody had a sign urging the president to adopt more stringent cost control measures, or slamming the concept of regulations to require insurers to cover people with pre-existing medical conditions.
Even the gals at Feministing are chirping in to point out this was just white people being white people, handicapped as they are. Why, they are such an unfortunate lot due to their skin color, they can't even understand how, or what they think, let alone articulate it clearly. No, now Obama, he's the articulate one, I guess. I just never realized it was all because he's black.
Because I really want to buy this, not just about Bush, but that this is a way that Whiteness works in the United States–that Whiteness is always about taking justified anger and feelings that white people have and unleashing it on the wrong targets.
It makes sense to me, that you could look at what white people are upset about other people doing or being and get a glimpse of the ways that Whiteness has fucked them over, but which they are culturally prevented from articulating.
Yes, the Left is unhinged over 9/12, that's for sure. If I didn't know better, I'd think it was the second coming of Sarah Palin, or some such thing.

Once again, great read Dan.
What will the progressives do when those of "color" start defecting? You know I'm really tired of this "racist" crap. Can a progressive explain to me why then my favorite columnists are Mychal Massie, Ellis Washington, Thomas Sowell? One of the many reasons I despise the progressive movement is because of its belief in eugenics and that evil woman Margaret Sanger who founded Planned Parenthood. "The Negro Project".
Why are Robert Smalls and Wentworth Cheswell, just to name a few, are American heroes to me? Ah, but they're "sell outs" is what they'll tell me. Tokens. There is good news in "Cheech" Sullivan's post. Finally, the progressives are getting the hint that we're pissed at Bush as well! This is a double edged sword.
What will they say when those of "color" start defecting? It's already started. In the San Joaquin Valley many, many, many farmers many of whom are Latinos are furious at Barack Hussein Obama, yeah I wrote Hussein if Van Jones can say it constantly why can't I? The big eared punk turned off their water. 40% unemployment, the land is dead because of a 2 inch fish.
"Black" families are livid at Obama for the canceling of school vouchers, forcing many children to go to DC dung heaps called schools. When the economy worsens and "blacks" see their lives are worse under the "first black president" they will wake up.
The gig is up progressives. You're going the way of the Tories.

This week we learned some very important information about Andrew Sullivan. He's a pothead. One of the proven medicinal benefits of pot is that it can cause paranoia in some smokers. Andrew, as his writings demonstrate, exhibits the classic symptoms of a paranoiac. To wit:
* Main Entry: para·noia
* Pronunciation: \ˌper-ə-ˈnȯi-ə, ˌpa-rə-\
* Function: noun
* Etymology: New Latin, from Greek, madness, from paranous demented, from para- + nous mind
* Date: circa 1811
1 : a psychosis characterized by systematized delusions of persecution or grandeur usually without hallucinations
2 : a tendency on the part of an individual or group toward excessive or irrational suspiciousness and distrustfulness of others

Dan, USMC, made my day guys.
Yeah, funny how "liberal" went stale under Bubba. Hillary then described herself as an "early 20th century Progressive", only to find that Progressivism's caché was short lived, too.
Shlaes' "The Forgotten Man", Pestritto's "American Progressivism", Goldberg's "Liberal Fascism" and Levin's "Liberty and Tyranny" hit the bookshelves and their message filtered into the culture: Progressivism is merely the American variant of European fascism and corporatism. Profoundly anti-individual and illiberal. Progressive... like a disease. There is nothing inspiring about dependency or subservience. Tell that to "progressives" and they respond with... "Racist!"?
All I can say is "whisky tango foxtrot."

Sullivan is unhinged. But we knew that. In that respect, it astounds me how he still holds the attention of so many. Is he that brilliant or compelling a writer? I was at a tea party rally yesterday. If I could think of the opposite term for "unhinged hysteria" within the context of heartfelt concern and celebration, that would describe it. To the Left, it is impossible to conceive of a crowd of protestors without the accompaniment of scatalogical rage and the unrestrained desire to "bring down." The tea parties are detestable to them just because, but also because they confound them.

What a buffoon he is.

Well Andy hasn't been stable or sane in a long time. I read where he got busted for smoking materials at a federal park and the fed DA can down to ensure the charges were dropped. He says it would effect his immigration status (he's a brit). Maybe this is the payback for the $150.00 dollar fine. Think about it poorly written (like always), no logic, no proofs (other than in andy's mind)but a absolute believe in the unicorn and fairy dust king.

Massachusetts has decriminalized marijuana use/possession, hence the dropping of the charge. It is doubtful that anyone involved knew or cared who Andrew Sullivan was/is.

Able,
It was a federal beef because he got busted in federal jurisdiction. Your ignorance and dishonesty are astonishing, although congrats on knowing just enough about Mass. law to make a complete a*s of yourself. You a*s.

I was really impressed with the "OBAMA'S FEMA CAMPS = AUSCHWITZ = GAS CHAMBERS ... WILSON WAS RIGHT!!!" sign at the rally yesterday. Was that the one you were carrying?

Excitable Andy was obviously using one hand to hold his joint when he was busted. Dare we wonder if Andy Sullivan was using his other hand--wait for it!--to hold his other "joint"? ;)

Able can't follow the fact that medical mj is legal in CA but the feds keep stepping in and arresting people. Sullivan doesn't even have cancer as far as we know.

"WILSON WAS RIGHT"
Maybe they meant Woodrow Wilson.

Anti-caucasion racism is only the most recent expression of racism by the left. It's amazing how often other people's skin color affects their reasoning, while most of the country has long since internalized Dr. King's ideal of judging others by the "content of their character".
