Researchers spotted a gene mutation in a mother and daughter who regularly get by fine on about 6 hrs. sleep. Additional research spports the finding. Come on, it's 5 AM, get up! Happens everytime I'm asleep before midnight. Test me! ha! Anyway, the research may lead to new discoveries in the sleep disorders area.
Researchers have found a genetic mutation in two people who need far less sleep than average, a discovery that might open the door to understanding human sleep patterns and lead to treatments for insomnia and other sleep disorders.
The finding, published in the Friday issue of the journal Science, marks the first time scientists have identified a genetic mutation that relates to sleep duration in any animal or human.
Although the mutation has been identified in only two people, the power of the research stems from the fact that the shortened sleep effect was replicated in mouse and fruit-fly studies. As a result, the research now gives scientists a clearer sense of where to look for genetic traits linked to sleep patterns.

It is confirmed I am a mutant!
Personally have always felt people who needed 8 were the odd ones, so be it.

Science is awesome.

Heh. So is there a gene mutation that requires people to be less dependent upon their own skills and ambition, i.e. slavishly dependent upon other people's earnings and freedoms? Just asking.

Hey Barbara,
YES! The DNC gene has a special phosphates in addition to the normal adenine, guanine, cytosine, and uracil... pleistocene. It keeps liberals in the stoned-age. Heh.
