It appears there may be at least two reasons why Richardson was always going to walk. Not only has he been positioning himself to lead talks between Cuba and the US - he's been in Cuba all week - the scandal might be part of a fairly broad one involving a large number of highly positioned Democrats.
How special. Awaiting word of his non-exoneration, Bill Richardson was in Communist controlled Cuba on a trade mission at the expense of New Mexico's taxpayers. Now, suddenly, he's proposing to lead talks between Cuba and Cuban-Americans and will be presenting his findings to Obama next week.
Yet, we're also being told this all just sort of came up out of nowhere and he wasn't there at the WH's behest. Yeah, because these sorts of coincidences just happen all the time.
As for how deep the scandal involving Richardson may go, you might want to see this comment from a previous post and see this blog for over 140 posts detailing some of what else may be going on here. Significant portions of the Democrat Party could be involved. That certainly would explain Holder simply shutting it down as he did.
HAVANA (Reuters) - New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson offered on Friday to set up talks between the Cuban government and Cuban Americans with the aim of ending five decades of mutual animosity and helping restore U.S.-Cuba relations.
At the conclusion of a five-day visit to the communist-led island, he said he had not seen a better atmosphere for improving relations between the two countries, but that things would have to proceed gradually to overcome years of bad blood.
Richardson, a Hispanic Democrat who has a history of being a diplomatic trouble-shooter, said he came to Cuba on a trade mission for New Mexico, not at the behest of the White House.
But the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations said he would report his findings to President Barack Obama next week.
Obama has said he wants to "recast" relations with Cuba, and has taken steps such as easing the longstanding U.S. trade embargo against the island and renewing talks on immigration.

I "hope" Obie does open relations with Cuba....course there goes most of Florida...but it would be nice to have another island to visit. We're trading with people who actually did sh*t to us, why not our very close neighbor.

Wel Thank God he's a Hispanic Democrat. I cant think of anything worse than sending a NON Hispanic to Cuba to mend all that bad blood.
And of course that one less thing for our pal Hillary to do,seeing as she's so busy crafting all those Reset Buttons for the Muslim world and all!

One way or the other relations with Cuba will be normalized...and that's probably a good thing in the long run, depending on how it's done, of course.
On the other hand, with the present administration, I suspect we will have a number of people, including the prez himself, strapping on the knee pads as they step aboard Airfarce One for the obligatory 'mea culpa' flight to Havana.

that obama couldn't find a cuban american to act as a go between would suggest how little cuban americans matter to obama.

I love how the left is acting like he's been proven innocent. Nothing could be further from the truth. But then the truth is something the left is real good at playing fast and loose with, isn't it?
Glad to hear Obama is cozying up to yet another dictator. That should give him some good training on keeping all us peasants and rowdies in line.

This sounds like a great plan. I'm sure all of those Cuban-Americans down in Florida will simply look the other way while Xerxes throws them all under the bus and deals with the communist dictator brothers!!
It should have no impact on the 2010 or 2012 elections!!!
(My god the Dems have got to be stuck on STUPID)!!!!

Send a 'generic' 'Hispanic' to Cuba. That's (non) brilliant!
As my sister-in-law is Colombian, there is no such thing as a 'Hispanic'. The Central and South American nations do not have such a unified opinion, no more than the nations of Europe have. Much love-not-lost between them.

He was a lefty House staffer, and pro Sandinista congressman, despite being the
son of a Boston Citibank banker, was envoy in the Clinton administration, negotiating deals in Iraq, Sudan, N. Korea, and Cuba prior to the BTR shootdown

Castro is a murdering, thieving, lying, tyrannical, no-good SOB. Point blank and period. That Cuba is in the condition it is in is not a product of a US embargo (after all, every other nation in the world is free to trade/do business/etc. with Cuba and, in fact, does), but rather is illustrative of how deeply Fidel's pockets are lined and how Fidel restricts everything going to the people of Cuba. They are starved as a result of Fidel, nothing more. Is it dubious that we bestow upon the Chi-Coms a "most-favored nation" trade status? Of course. But that in no way diminishes the fact that no good can come from dealing with Fidel and his Communist brethren. We do not, or rather, should not, compromise with Communism, just as Reagan did not with the USSR or the DDR.
