The Three Stooges Now Appearing At HuffPo

Everyone is picking up on the Alec Baldwin, Jack Cafferty kerfuffle - Goldfarb references Rick Sanchez, pronouncing CNN's team as hit and miss- ouch! But people are missing the real stupid in Baldwin's obviously more emotional, than thoughtful, slash at Cafferty for an old hit and run charge. Unless you're one of the 17 people who watches CNN, Cafferty, and Baldwin's career, you have no idea what the hell he is talking about here:

The material I received from a contingent in Ohio was back in 1996, but Playboy omitted that fact in editing the piece. As for running for office in the future, who knows?

Evidently it's this from USA Today. So these two guys are fighting over something that did or didn't happen back in 1996, but no one knows that except for 17 people and now Cafferty's producer because Playboy, who probably still has no clue when, or why the Tea Party's got started failed to properly reference a quote? There couldn't be any more stupid in one malicious and angry blog entry than there is in this one.

For weeks, everyone's been picking up quotes by Alec Baldwin in the July/August issue of Playboy in which the 30 Rock actor mentioned he would consider running for public office.

Baldwin said, "A law firm in a liberal Democratic bastion in Ohio state politics sent me a binder with a cover letter that read, 'Mr. Baldwin, here's who we represent, the kinds of cases we handle, our credentials in Ohio state politics. We want you to move to Ohio and run for governor. We will launch your career.'"

Riehl, I came to this site to see what conservatives are saying and to debate the other side a bit. I even made a supportive post to your points on the Plumline yesterday. But I don't think that conversation is what this site is for. Your constant derogatory characterization of liberals suggests that you make a living by feeding conservative white males' resentment of any cultural change. It really appears to me that your goal in using snide, condescending and mean spirited terms (e.g. stupid, sick, disturbed, ugly, three stooges) is to reinforce the victimization felt by the readers due to economic changes that are leaving them in the difficult situations. Your posters here use the most vicious terminology that we have in the English language (racist, Nazi) and this site encourages it.

Thank you, Wally. Nice to know I'm being effective. However, if you haven't noticed, I have people from both sides here commenting, often in a heated fashion sans an abundance of vulgarity. If you don't apreciate heated rhetorical exchanges on politics, perhaps it isn't your cup of tea. But many people seem to enjoy the hell out of it, just as I often do.

What do you have against catharsis, not to be confused with Carthage, though the former also hopefully represents a threat to Rome.

How long do posters like Slide and anon and me stay to debate issues? I am guessing not very long as they are driven out by the constant vicious personal attacks by most of your readers. I am not really convinced that the level of discourse here is either polite or high minded. Most of the responses to my posts have really seemed fueled by anger. But, less derogatory characterizations of liberals by you might, just might help tone down the resentment and rabid personal attacks by your readers. Why do I want to make a right wing blog more successful? I think polite and reasoned discourse, like the rule of law, are what makes for a successful democratic society.

It strikes me as somewhat ironic that you'd have this discussion here, given the post topic - charges of hit and run driving, Baldwin's well knownhistory of invective? Perhaps you should contact CNN and Huff Po on the same issue.

Also, if you re-visit political rhetoric dating all the way bac to the Founding, you will find much worse than what goes on here. In fact, many of the Founders themselves, as well as pols through out history have engaged in much worse.

Dan, Good point. Adams and Jefferson called each other some pretty nasty names. And Jackson called anyone who got in his way, some pretty nasty names. But those names were old style cussing. "Dagburn lying, low down, varmint" might have been acceptable in that cultural period's discourse. "Racist" and "Nazi" to my understanding, has never, ever been acceptable discourse in this country and were rarely used until Barack Obama ran for President. One theory is that right wing bloggers use of the terms socialist and communist to describe President Obama has made the term liberal seem very innocuous. I don't buy it. Disparagement is disparagement.

Also, even if you are right, did such periods of homespun insults ever possibly lead to violence against the non participatory parties? Aaron Burr and Hamilton settled it themselves. But some angry deluded American males don't seem to need to need more than prompting from Rush talking about immigrants and a lost job to kill innocent people.
