Just got this in email from Josh Trevino. He requested a link to Chuck Devore, who is taking on Boxer, in exchange for using it. ha
The smaller square placard in the middle of the photo (click it to enlarge) is an SEIU worker in California demonstrating against budget cuts at the State Capitol: "I Can't Make It - Tax Everybody". Call it, the politics of personal wealth destruction!
I'm standing on the west steps of the CA State Capitol right now, and there's a huge SEIU rally underway, opposing the budget cuts that will make SEIU a neutered force in politics -- and none too soon. There are literally thousands of purple-clad "workers" here.
Update: From comments - the SEIU out in force in Illinois, too. With video: Yes We Can!

gop: drill here, drill now.
dems: spend here, spend now.
it remains a fact that the only resource the dems refuse to conserve is money.
we run out of oil? we change.
we run out of money? the govt will collapse.

california should go with "loot and pillaging day"...
you may legally rob anyone, so long as the govt gets half the proceeds.
(*I'm sure the conservatives would counter-propose that there would be no prosecution for anyone who kills tresspassers on loot and pillaging day)
this is a win-win...
the govt of CA can make a ton of money, and the conservatives can help thin the herd.

a more practical solution for california?
do a cost analysis of their top 10% of "earners" of state assistance.
offer them their average cost to state govt over the past three years as an incentive to move out of state. If they agree to taking the money, they waive all rights to move back to the state and seek state funding for a period of five years.

Wow, we just had the same thing on 6-30-09 in Springfield, Illinois.
We're at 10% unemployment and they're bullying anti-tax legislators for more spending instead of cuts

Ya know, I'm thinking that possibly what we need to have is a federal law forbidding the formation of collective bargaining organizations that span multiple employers.
When you think about it, there's really no need for a union to be that large, and a valid reason for a union to NOT be allowed to be that large -- it IS possible for a union to abuse monopoly power, after all. It also means the individual unions will be more focused on the needs of their members, not so much on the greed of their officials or their pet political projects.
Oh, well, never mind, that horse left the barn a long time ago...

in defense of unions, which I generally abhor...
teachers. they aren't subject to some formal group of qualified professionals asessing their performance-they get stuck with the board of education. I'm sure the intentions were good, but putting unqualifed, uneducated, petty individuals over local education is a recipe for disaster.
sometimes, the unions fighting against the boards are actually doing them a favor, by keeping their decisions out of court.
