Update: The Fix headlines: Palin To Resign, Focus on Presidential Run
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will resign her office later this month, according to several sources familiar with her decision, freeing her to build a national political team and travel the country in support of an expected 2012 presidential bid. The first term governor is stepping down "so that she can take the fight for her issues elsewhere," according to a Palin aide.
h/t Michelle for this:
Hmmm: Sarah Palin on Twitter -- We'll soon attach info on decision to not seek re-election... this is in Alaska's best interest, my family's happy... it is good, stay tuned

alaska...how many states are going to yield a budget surplus for 2010? 9they are showing a deficit for 2009, but it is for 360 million).
mission accomplished. She maxed out on fiscal credibility.

yesterday, the gop had no one they could send to a tea party style protest who would draw a crowd.
today?
much is being made about her 2012 aspirations, but the next election cycle is 2010. palin, if she so chose, could be a massive draw at congressional fundraisers. Nothing can shore up national support within a party more, than by lending her charisma and celebrity status. I sense the hand of rove, if not, maybe it was just his whisper in her ear.
"you want to make money, make national appearances, work closer within the gop, and be a leader of the grassroots or you can stay in alaska and deal with specious legal claims and garner no further support, while the national press picks your eyes out?"
i'm guessing, but I think she is one of rove's "four horsemen" for 2010. he is a political junkie, and he sees the chance to really slam the democratic party.
