Palin spokesperson saying she isn't running away, will continue to be out there, etc etc ....
Video via Gateway Pundit:
Donald Douglas adds his analysis: Too soon to tell about the future. Obviously, I agree.
Resignation effective in two weeks. AP story.
Just listened to the video. My take - she's not done and will look to go national in some way setting up for a possible 2012 run.
Took no questions. Feel's she can be more effective outside of government?? Said a lot of the national focus on her is costing Alaska money? A quote. "We know that we can effect change outside government. I've nevr believed that I or anyone else needs a title to do this. You are naive if you don't see an effort by the national press picking apart a good point guard."
It's official - she isn't running again - is resigning in a month.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Gov. Sarah Palin will resign her office in a few weeks, she said during a news conference at her Wasilla home Friday morning.
Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the Governor's Picnic at Pionner Park in Fairbanks on Saturday, July 25, Palin said.
There was no immediate word as to why she will resign, though speculation has been rampant that the former vice presidential candidate is gearing up for a run at the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.
Palin made the announcement flanked by Parnell and most, if not all, of her cabinet.
Parnell ran unsuccessfully against Rep. Don Young in the Republican primary last year.
The stunning announcement by Palin opens the floodgates for the 2010 gubernatorial race. Speculation that Palin might not seek re-election had fueled further conjecture of who might run.
CNN is saying GOP sources say she's going to announce that she isn't running for re-election.
A Palin announcement from her home at 3 PM. Interesting, I guess. I wouldn't be surprised if she walked away from the whole thing.
But we'll see. Maybe she's pregnant. That would be priceless just to watch Andy's head explode. ; )
Of course, he'd then have something worthwhile to blog about for the next nine months!

rather early to make the announcement...
she was far from a top choice of mine, but her character has ALWAYS been her strong suit, beyond all others.
if this turns out to be true, my respect and admiration for her is boundless.
hint for romney(who I supported as the least of all gop evils):
if palin is backing away, maybe you should as well. The liklihood of her winning the nomination was 10 fold greater than your chances.

I'm hoping it is so that Sarah will have time to prepare a full run for the White House.

She just committed political suicide. Quitting is not a path to higher office.
"The governor cited many costly ethics complaints that she recently faced as contributing to her decision to resign."
Posted by: Nishner | Friday, July 03, 2009 at 03:58 PM
Why not? Obama quit, didn't he?
What Palin is doing here is very simple. Being governor of Alaska requires her to suffer fools gladly and deal with leftists who are filing frivolous complaint after frivolous complaint against her.
Now she is free to do what she wants, go where she wants, talk to whom she wants, and manage it how she chooses. She has two years to focus on what she really intends to do, and she can do it without having to worry about anything else. It's an outright dare to the Obamamessiah to hit the campaign trail, and best of all, she knows he will do it -- to the detriment of everything else.

"You are naive if you don't see an effort by the national press picking apart a good point guard."
Yeah. Here's a thought Dan... If Palin runs and, during her campaign, plays to the web and ignores the MSM? There are alternatives out there. H^ll, it would be a disaster for the state-pimp media if Palin gave interviews only on outlets such as Fox and Pajamas and TAS... "Pundits" such as Kristol would be sucking wind, especially after kid-gloving Obama. Selective attention would be a huge departure from the normal. Poor Katie! Poor Brian!
Posted by: Ran | Friday, July 03, 2009 at 04:37 PM
Obama was president-elect when he resigned.
Posted by: Nishner | Friday, July 03, 2009 at 04:44 PM
"Obama was president-elect when he resigned."
Correction: In the eyes of Obama himself and the MSM, he was not president-elect. He was "living-god elect."

Too bad Obama doesn't repeat the trick and do America a favor.
Posted by: Dan Riehl | Friday, July 03, 2009 at 04:56 PM
A good move, certainly the best for a run at presidency. This gives her time to do the things she needs to do, travel, speak, build relationships free not only burden of office but charges of exploiting it. And I believe she does care about Alaska.
And I hope Ran is right. She should completely starve the state-run media.

Heh. Even if she runs [oh please yes!] the most important work has to be done in local conservative and libertarian action on the ground at the local level. No Palin or Reagan can pull us out of the funk or "give" us back our liberty. We must kick serious ass. Hard.
Look, folks, if you don't want your kids growing into O-Bots with a nishner for a brain, you must engage locally. Community organizing, with a twist.
This week I registered a new Scout Troop in our Congregation. I'm seeking conservatives and libertarians as Scout Masters and committee support.
If Sarah runs I'll be there at the local level going door to door as needed. She can't do it on her own.
Posted by: Ran | Friday, July 03, 2009 at 05:22 PM
I think everyone is misinterpreting the direction she intends to travel. It didn’t sound to me like she was giving up. I suggest that her sights are not on the White House in 2012 but in reinvigorating the conservative base and destroying the liberal agenda. She will no longer be tied up with frivolous ethics violations suits because as a private citizen she can go on the attack against Obama & Co in unrestricted mode.
Liberals feared her while she was in office, I think they will rue the day the sicced their cronies on her and freed her from constraint. Think of Rush Limbaugh,
Think of Sarah Palin. 20000 came to hear her talk after the election in upstate NY recently. 100 people showed up for Joe Biden in Erie PA. Liberals beware!

This makes a lot of sense. I am withdrawing as gov. becasuse I cannot handle the media scrutiny so I can run for president which involves little or no media scrutiny whatsoever.
Posted by: query_tool | Friday, July 03, 2009 at 05:28 PM
They won't stop attacking her if she remains prominnt. The difference is, she'll be able to fight back without distracting from her job. If that's the way this plays and there's no scandal - I think she can pull it off.
If she goes around the country raising money for pols, she can build a good network very quickly.
Posted by: Dan Riehl | Friday, July 03, 2009 at 05:40 PM
So let me get this straight. She's standing up to the librul media, who was attacking her for not being competent enough to do her job, by...er...saying she can't do her job and quitting. Because she can't do it when she's being "attacked" or investigated or something. Or 0some "not-very-nice adults" said something mean about her special needs infant? (BTW, what were those things, specifically?)
Yeah, that sounds like presidential material to me. Talk about not ready for prime time.
Posted by: dwright | Friday, July 03, 2009 at 06:08 PM
Dan: via Ace, Jonah has some interesting points at NRO.
DWright, no... It's not a defensive move. [You've never read Sun Tzu, obviously.] Chin-up lassie! Silly liberal. You're about to have your liberal but kicked. In prime time.
Posted by: Ran | Friday, July 03, 2009 at 06:21 PM
Palin can't "ignore" the MSM. Here's one of the ways her supporters could undercut the MSM however:

Somehow I don't think that advice is going to be followed, despite how good it is. Too many shiny objects around.

"Obama was president-elect when he resigned."
Which means he was campaigning full-time for two years while still expecting to hold his Senate seat.
Palin made it clear that her constituents deserve a full-time governor, not someone who was using the governor's office while not doing any of the work. And she can hammer Obama with the fact that he refused to resign so that his constituents could have a real representative in office while he was out doing anything but.
Furthermore, now she can hammer Obama full time. She can project her own story, she can speak to the media herself, and she doesn't have to worry about frivolous ethics complaints filed and coordinated by paid Obama operatives with the specific intent of bankrupting her.

It's amazing to me how we've become this nation of people who spend TONS of our time and energy dissecting other's lives to the point that they lose their humanity. Carrie Prejean, Michael Jackson, Sarah Palin... all prime examples.
These people may be "stars" or public figures, may be controversial,etc... but at the end of the day these are HUMAN BEINGS!!!! We talk about them in such calloused, judgemental, HORRIBLE ways... I read such unbelievable things on the internet... maybe we want to strip them of their humanity because we've lost our own humanity because we've become junkies in the way we are obsessed with these people and the way in which we talk about them as if they are void of any emotions, feelings, etc.
It's truly scary because we have become very cold, cruel, mean-spirited people. Politics, celebrity status, and our causes trump humanity.
Sarah Palin is a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a wife, and so much more. And whether you agree with her or not, like her or not, she is a human being with people in her life who love her and whom she loves. She is also a very hard worker who has accomplished many things in her life.
Maybe she doesn't care that she's committed "political suicide." Maybe she wants out. Can you blame her?? Her family has been attacked, she's been attacked, and as much as she loves Alaska, maybe she wants out... for her own sanity, for her family's sake, for her future, one in which perhaps she doesn't feel like battling the biased media every day for the rest of her life.
I'm just sick at how ugly and nasty we've become in this nation. Our media just rips people to shreds. We thrive on gossip and slander. We stop at nothing to find "juicy" details of other's lives, things that should be private and respected, but we respect no one. We hack into private emails and publish them on the front page of newspapers so as to shame, embarrass, and "expose" people. And for what end? Seriously? Does any of this make us better people in any way? No. We are just becoming more and more wretched and obsessive and narcissistic.
I wish Sarah Palin well. She has endured so much. Most of us would not have been able to have endure what she has. Who knows what is going on in her life. I have no doubt that whatever it is, the media and liberals and bloggers and gossipers will most definitely have no regard or respect for it, and will treat her like they do everyone else... they will expose, gossip, slander, berate, demean, and rip her to shreds as if they are perfect people incapable of any wrong.

One last thing, I'd love to see Palin run for Pres. for selfish reasons, but for her sake and her family, I think it'd be good if she got out of politics altogether. The media and liberals have proved time and time again that she is enemy #1 (next to Bush) and they will stop at nothing to destroy her. And like I said, she is a HUMAN BEING, not some robot!
If people in this nation treated Obama the way they treated her (mocking him on late night shows, hacking into his emails, spreading stories about his daughters, on and on and on), there would be so much outrage from the media and liberals. But it's okay for them to do it to Sarah. There is a huge double standard, tons of hypocrisy and favoritism, and just plain ol' nasty human behavior.
We think we've grown up and left the h.s. mentality, with the "in" groups and gossip, etc. but we really haven't. Human nature is human nature, and people love looking down their noses at other people and they become obsessed with other people, while their own lives waste away as they blog and twitter every day and night about the objects of their obsession.
I have always been very disgusted by the way the media and Democrats/liberals treated Sarah Palin. Even now, many of their headlines read: "Sarah Palin resigns to pursue 2012 Presidency." She hasn't even said that!!! They totally manipulate and twist things. I can't even imagine spending my life the way they do and getting to the end of life and looking back and thinking, yep, I spent my life ruining people, shaming people, gossiping and slandering, and hurting other's reputations. I made my living and made money off of the destruction I caused in people's lives. Wow. What a legacy to leave.
Anyways, I'd vote for Sarah. I think she truly cares about people and what's happening in this nation. And like many of us, she is probably really disgusted with and discouraged by what is happening. And if she leaves politics, so be it. She can certainly excel in other things in life.

I hope she is truly gone. Thank heavens she and McCain lost the election. Her willful ignorance and hubris make for a dangerous combination. No one of any consequence has any respect for her, because she hasn't earned it. In her addled mind, she thinks she deserves it anyway, of course. I can't imagine how anyone could listen to the rambling, incoherent speech today and actually think she should have any elected office of a serious nature.

More information on “grassroots” supporters gathering across the nation to support Sarah Palin for President in 2012 can be found online at www.palin4pres2012.com
Note, the website is in danger of crashing due to the flood of readers and supporters signing up to show their interest in a Palin Candidacy. The GOP establishment had better watch out, Sarah Palin and Ron Paul combined with the power of the internet will remove the stranglehold of GOP special interests and the elites who have brought the party to its knees in defeat in the 2008 elections.

I guess twits like Jamie will never figure out the pablum that OBanc'rrupt regularly spouts would only make "sense" to retards like jamie. How's that hope and change working out for ya, moron?

noted that she had intended to announce she wouldn't run for a second term, but "I thought about how much fun some governors have as lame ducks ... then I thought, that's what's wrong."
Yes Sarah. It's no fun having to work a job you know is coming to an end.
As vice president you would probably quit after your second year...after all..."It's not fun anymore"

U People R Just JAILus!
Sarah Palin is about to BLOW UP!
Yes, that's right folks! We have just learned through "IS" Insider Sources, that the Prez2B is about to put her camPAIN on STEROIDs!!!! Exclamation Mark. Clap. Applause and drum rolls... puhSLeeez. "IS" has just informed us that the vivacious EX-gov is putting her Prez hopes on HGH! Her Governors Humpty!
Yep! As we type, her "IC" Inner Circle team of "BS" Beaucratic Shakers are convening in D.C. to set the stage for the next Prez race. We went inside Studio B, The Situation Room and did a 360 and spoke with Hannity, O'Reilly, Blitzer, Donner and Prancer and it's confirmed, her P-TEAM is on the move! P-TEAM Political Tactical Experts At Mucking are feverishly working behind the scenes prepping the shapely political virtuoso for the announcement. Word is the ticket could be:
Palin and LIMPbaugh
Palin and Newt GingRich
Palin and Sanford
Palin and SPITzer
Palin and Hannity
Palin and O’Reilly
Palin and Ensign
Although the P-TEAM is still fiercely debating whose going to be Sarah’s running mate, LIMPbaugh says he’s the best candidate for America. When GingRich asked if his past could affect the ticket, his response was, “NO!” Newt said America has forgiven and forgotten that he called it quits just like Palin. If you are a TRUE Republican, you should be Xcited!!!! Go Republicans! Go GOP Get Others Pumped! We can do this!

"Obama was president-elect when he resigned."
"Which means he was campaigning full-time for two years while still expecting to hold his Senate seat."
Yeah, just like Senator John McCain did and Representative Ron Paul, Senator Sam Brownback, Representative Tom Trancredo, Representative Duncan Hunter hoped to do. Even your sainted Ms. Palin held onto her governor's seat while campaigning with McCain.
She didn't say she was quitting to run for president. Even is she is planning to run, her term would have ended at the end of 2010 long before the 2012 election. But she quit instead. Some pitbull.

she probably got tired of all the attention; maybe she's not cut out to be a celebrity after all
