Good Lord. If you think there's any chance of business people running General Motors, take a look at this via a brief John Stossel item. This also may help explain while Obama's auto czar Steve Rattner stepped down. Eventually, there won't be any business people running any piece of the American auto industry.
General Motors is now caught in a political tug of war that has nothing to do with sound business judgment. It's all about politics in the end. And who do you think will get the bill when this ends up in a financial fiasco as none of these people know a thing about the industry as insiders?
Now that the Obama administration has spent billions of dollars on the bailouts of General Motors and Chrysler, Congress is considering making its first major management decision at the automakers.
Under legislation that has rapidly gained support, GM and Chrysler would have to reinstate more than 2,000 dealerships that the companies had slated for closure...
Since federal money has been used to sustain the automakers, they say Congress has an obligation to intervene.

All Government is evil!
We need to show that evil government can NOT run a business and return GM back into the hands of business people.

Not so fast, jaime.
Small, responsive State and Federal government is the balanced optimum between libertine anarchy on the left and tyrannical statism on the right. (One wonders how todays statists ever came to be known as the "Left"?)
Personal government - the freedom and responsibility to govern one's person and one's behavior is the most important government of all.
Skousen's '5000 Year Leap'** has a decent summary of the concepts.

Not quite on topic, but:
I own a 2003 GMC pickup with 150,000 miles, only one trip to the shop for repair. I also own a 2008 Aveo, rated the easiest car to park, and it may be just that. These are the last two new GM cars that I will buy. GM is supported by tax dollars to make sure that the union survives. It's not about jobs, it's about supporting a very strong union that supports the party that depends on them for money and votes. One hand washing the other, as it were.
If GM and Chrysler die, the UAW is seriously weakened, and becomes a backwater organization. The Democrats can't abide that. Like African American voters, unions have been claimed as exclusive Democrat property, and the Dems won't give them up easily. They will spend every dollar of our taxes needed to make sure the unions survive.
If the government owns and controls GM and Chrysler production, why shouldn't they also control the distribution? It's the other half of the equation. Plus Congress listens to the local voices more than the White House does. Local people are unhappy that Obama has the power to shut down local businesses. Very unhappy.
Want to save America? Don't buy an American car. Why should conservatives finance their own destruction?
