Boxer doesn't actually say that, she just implies it. And the black male she's questioning takes great offense. Chuck Devore is certainly going to have plenty of material to work with thanks to Boxer herself!
Update: Lifted from comments via Dan at GP with more - so true. Evidently, she was shaken but not stirred!
why didn't she object when this guy called her ma'am?

This Alford guy rules. She was being totally condescending, and someone finally called her on it. He should move here to TX and take McKinney or Edwards's job.

It's worse than "But you're black." What she was saying in her heart was,
"But you're a neeeegro. You should be thinking like all these other neeeegros!"

To all the people on here that think Mr. Alford was being disingenuous, you are missing the whole point. He thought he was being called into to talk about why his group opposes the energy bill, not to be asked to fall in line with other blacks. While I hope the need to have groups based on skin color will go away very soon, Mr. Alford's organization really had nothng to do with discussing energy. His group just hapened to do a lot of research on the topic, which he thought he was being called in to discuss.
It was quite obvious to me that boxer has had very little interaction with blacks. Her kneejerk reaction was to try to play on Alford's "pride" (she embarrassingly repeated the word 'proud' 4 times - I actually cringed in pity for her as she said it), which is probably the only thing she knows about black people besides what she's read about groups of black people in books, or maybe the occasional biography. Is she a racist? I think so, even though she might not be aware of it. Is she a total ass? Beyond the shadow of a doubt.

Wow, we are a little bit more gullible today than normal aren't we posters? Alford's group has been bought off by Exxon. Exxon has funneled millions to climate change deniers and has funneled over $350,000 to Alford's group alone. The first link is to the most recent "gift." The latter is to previous payoffs for climate change denial services. Is this who Dan Riehl champions?

Also, in his opening statemet Alford claimed to speak for the "black community." If he claims this, why can't Boxer show how full of bologne he is? And full of Exxon dollars.

Because balogna is spelled with an A, Wally.

Boxer is a withered old loon. Between the botox and the peroxide what remains of her brain hasn't a chance. The fact that California sends her back to the Senate again and again is a symptom of the wasting disease that has destroyed that formerly great state.

Exxon has funneled millions to climate change deniers and has funneled over $350,000 to Alford's group alone.
So let's see; among those climate change denier groups are the Congressional Black Caucus, the National Black Caucus of State Legislators, the National Bureau of Asian Research, and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
Plus the NAACP.

The problem here, Wally, is twofold.
One, you are incensed at the thought of a black man, who you feel should be bowing before you and kissing your feet for being a liberal, actually daring to disagree with you.
Two, you don't believe a black man should ever talk back to a white woman.
So you go on a rampage to try to trash this person and impugn his organization because a corporation that you don't like donated to them.
You are a racist, Wally. That much is patently obvious.

If Mr. Alford had been the Pres. of the Korean Chamber of Commerce (and a Korean) would Boxer have pulled out the NAACP paper?

That is an in-depth report he presented. She is a condescending you know what. I went to the NBCC site and sent him a thanks for the report. It makes it easier to refute the other side's arguments to have the facts.I live in an area full of Obamabots. God bless the guy.

The Pew Trust study that Boxer cited is a box of hokem too. These are all "pile on" studies and statements seeking a piece of government cheese from cap and trade.
BTW, as the search, schools have operated under "in loco parentis" since the Romans (I'd guess). It means in place of the parent. A parent can strip search a child if suspected of illegal drugs. If a legislature with jurisdiction wants to ban that particular practice, over ruling common law, it can.
But I'm no lawyer, just a citizen. I respect Thomas and his logic powers greatly.

The Senators need to earn our respect. They aren't doing it now.
Perhaps there should be behavioral indications of this lack of respect from we the people i.e. open exchanges of honest opinion.

That was fantastic. Boxer's a swine and has been useless for some time. Glorious comeuppance.
"Well, some other of you people said it was good, so..."
Un-friggin-believable.

Gee, maybe she's putting documents on the record from other black organizations because this guy is representing the National "BLACK" Chamber of Commerce? He testified representing an organization formed with a specific racial identity. This guy made himself look like a real dumb*ss.

That rocked - no question about it.
I do not know what this guys political ideas are - he may very well be almost 100% against mine, but I would say I would enjoy having a beer and talking with him. There is a phrase many leftist like "Speak Truth to Power" and that right there is it. The guy may even very well be a Marxist for all I know (nothing in that clip can tell me) but by golly he spoke Truth to Power right then and there.
And, lastly, if you ever want to see why many in power (and note I said "in power") want to neuter the military in the US that right there is why. We like to talk about the idea of "Jump" - "How High Sir" but the reality is that our military wants people who can *think* under pressure and react with vigor. They want *everyone* (be it the lowest rank possible and the only person) to take command and achieve victory.
Why I say I would like to have a beer with someone like that is even if they are a full on Marxist is that they have conviction in what they believe, do not try and hide it, and have no issue telling you what they believe. I suspect this guy isn't a marxist, but then I do not really know either. At the least he gave Ms. Boxer a good verbal assault that she needed to happen right then and there. He called her out on an idea she figured she could push on him from her position of power - not too good on someone who is passionate about an idea *and* trained by the US military to confront positions of power :)

Jason S: Excellent points. Alford very quickly saw that Boxer was asking: "Why don't you think like the other black people". The "They would be proud" business is a classic example of racism disguised as liberal paternalism: "We are trying to help you, why can't you be more appreciative?"

Allford supported Obama knowing fully his policies would be damaging to commerce. His website is an Obama Hope and Change Koolaid Fest. So I assume Mr Allford has more do to with the " Black " than the " Commerce" part of his organization.

At least this website has adults capable of discussing race. I debated the same issue on Red State and was called a bigot. Then got banned by Moe Lane.

Same old deal. Democrats taking the group known as black America for granted and taking black America's commonality of opinion and lack of individuality for granted as well. It appears to be so much a part of the Democrat party culture that Democrats such as Ms Boxer do it as a matter of course, a knee jerk reaction, a natural behavior. Yes it is patronizing, and insulting and it is also getting old, as demonstrated by the interaction between Boxer and Alford. Consider the sutuation in reverse with Alford assuming that because some predominantly white group held some position that one would naturally assume Ms Boxer also held that position or identified with that group. Paleeez.....

Man, we need more people like Mr.Alford. Too often the African American community is viewed as a monolithic entity represented by a few opportunistic "reverends" and politicians. I know that there are plenty of decent middle class African American families that will suffer just as much as their other middle class peers due to these policies. Boxer, Pelosi and their ilk presume to tell African Americans what to think. Isn't that just a little presumptuous?

I guess you don't have to be a person of color to play racial politics.
Posted by: David | Sunday, July 19, 2009 at 10:27 PM
I'm not a Barbara Boxer fan, but in this case, I have to take her side. Mr. Alford accused her of racism when she was merely trying to find out how much and why Exxon Oil and other companies were contributing money to NCCCP and NAACP. There needs to be some protection (a law) to protect people from being accused of racism or charges of being racist when they're innocent. Immigrant activist Alfredo Gurierrez said, "We call things racism just to get attention. We reduce complicated problems to racism, not because it is racism, but because it works." And so it has splendidly so far. It's way past time for the accuser to have to be ready to prove his charge of racism/racist, or face legal consequences for his/her false accusations. For it is just as hideous to falsely accuse someone of racism/racist as it is to actually be one.

Jean T, you obviously did not watch the same clip the rest of us did. Boxer was discussing the cap/tax plan, and essentially said to Alford: "look, all of these other black entities are on board, why are you being a sell-out?". If you can't see that, your blinders are due for a cleaning.

Bravo Mr. Alford.
YOU SHOULD RUN FOR HER SENATE SEAT! YOU WOULD WIN BY A LAND SLIDE!!
I am surprised she did not have a statement from Jessie Jackson or Louis Farrakhan. I am glad the democrats are starting to self destruct. Boxer has lived in her elitist ivory tower for so long she starts to believe her own BS.
The really sad thing is the lefty's coming in here and defending her actions while tearing up Mr. Alford. What they fail to understand is that Mr. Alford's testimony was based on studies and research from his group, NOT just a statement from a Black organization. Boxer threw out some baseless endorsement from a Black group to dismiss any and all work his group had done. THAT WAS AN INSULT AND A SLAP IN THE FACE! How obvious does racism have to be for the democrats to notice it on their own side?? Do they realize how disingenuous they sound by trying to pass off her obvious racism while they beat on Mr. Alford? If I am a black person, I am insulted by Boxer and then twice insulted by the democrats for coming to her defense!!!
Good work Boxer! You have single handedly brought YOUR Democratic Party to it's knees! hahahahahaha!

Boxer, Finestein and Pelosi -- the messiah's trio of $itches. These 'witchy chicks' need someone or something to knock them off their can-do-no-wrong pedestals. Beyond me how their constituents continue to vote for them. OTOH, look at the '08 results. They may self-destruct soon - we can only hope! 2010???
