Bill Maher is sick of seeing Obama on TV. So are conservatives. But if a Right-side pundit suggested Obama giving a WH tour was akin to the television show "Cribs," they'd be fired for being a racist.
You're the president, not a rerun of "Law and Order." Save some charisma for a rainy day. Taking strangers from a TV show on a tour of your house? We have that show; it's called "Cribs."

I race to turn him off every time. I wonder if other people do it too and if the cable TV stations realize that their viewership goes down.
btw here's a nice review of Levin and his book.

I don't care what channel I'm watching, TV or radio, the minute I see him or hear his voice.......Click.....he's gone! Now, if I could only do that in my real life.....
Posted by: Ad rem | Friday, June 12, 2009 at 07:35 PM
Those ads keep coming on though about the clenched fist. Awful.
Posted by: lala | Friday, June 12, 2009 at 08:05 PM
Turn "O" off permanently, or at least until 2010 elections are over. Cancel your cable subscription. You'll save money and sleep better by avoiding MSM propaganda and Obama's deceitful lies.

I thought I got sick of Bill Clinton's "Perpetual Campaign" but Obama is much, much worse. It's hard to see that he's actually doing anything except speechifying and flying to places.
Posted by: JorgXMcKie | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 12:13 AM
I thought we were the only people turning the channel when narcissistic man-child makes his daily proclamation! How often is it necessary to show his incompetence, corruption, negligence and absolute stupidity?
Posted by: rulisteningnow | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 12:18 AM
Any time our TV is on, either hubby or I have the remote control handy to hit the mute whenever his arrogant head shows up...will NOT listen to him.
Posted by: Ann | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 12:49 AM
Wow! I, too thought I was the only one who reacted this was to Obama! The instant I hear his voice, I immediately change the channel, or turn off the device. I have not heard him speak a single sentence since he won the election! I'd sooner have Satan to tea. Let's name this thing! Obama is a ... COMPLETE TURN-OFF!
Posted by: Jeff Marcher | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 12:54 AM
Just when I think I've escaped, the Franklin Mint ads for Obama kitsch come on, with the "limited edition" commemorative plate depicting his "glorious victory".
They're invariably followed by an ad for "MALE ENHANCEMENT".
Posted by: Foobarista | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 12:56 AM
Amazing. I, too, thought I was the only one who hit mute or changed the news on the radio when I saw or heard President Obama come on.
Think some Tea Party signs to the effect of "Mute the President" might make spread the word?
Posted by: JAL | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 01:24 AM
Hitting the mute button is the only way to keep Obama from being forced by the teleprompter to lie.
Posted by: Claude Hopper | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 01:27 AM
Since I am mostly deaf I have never heard him speak. I used to read transcripts, they never made any sense. The man is supposed to have a soothing, melodious voice and can read a teleprompter. I understand that without the teleprompter he's lost. Truth be told, he seems to be lost with it, too. Go back and read any of his much ballyhooed speeches and then tell me what they mean. Besides America bad, everyone else good.

Oh, really? You "RACE" to turn him off? Man, you need to stop the one-track hating. Comment on O without bringing this up - even once - it would be refreshing.

DVDs for us when we want to watch a movie or serial, internet for news. We've long ago given up on cable TV.

Sarah Palin on the Subprime Mortgage Crisis:
"One thing that Americans do at this time, also, though, is let's commit ourselves just every day American people, Joe Six Pack, hockey moms across the nation, I think we need to band together and say never again."
It is obvious fact that this made perfect sense. Socialist Sarah is an eloquent genius. This wonderfully constructed off the cuff sentence is 100% proof positive.

O is not allowed in our house in any form (I'm not sure who would divorce whom faster if one of us actually wanted to see or hear him). We DVR everything and quickly zap anything with him in it. Listening to Mark and Rush is a huge challenge because of all the audio clips of this unbearable thug and some days we don't bother. I suspect Mark and Rush know this.
My life is as Thug-Free as I can possibly make it. Had no clue so many others felt the same. I might have to make up a sign for my next tea party: See No Evil, Hear No Evil. :-D

It's not only that I can't stand him, it's the odd way he talks, the smacking of the last word in the sentence, and of course the bobble head reading of the TOTUS. And, his smile is making him look like the Joker.
Posted by: lala | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 08:49 AM
MUTE the Prez! I like the 'sound' of that! I, too, thought we were the only ones who felt this way. Although, I admit, I used to do the same thing with Bush....Who knew things could go from bad to worse?
Let's all hope BHO gets permanent laryngitis! Then no one will have to listen to him!
Posted by: ExDemocrat | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 08:57 AM
lala, his speech patterns and sibilants are quite, quite off-putting. I've never listened to a faker speaker in my entire life. Listening to him is simply intolerable. Adding that ugly, devil face - I can't describe how repugnant he is.

"one-track hating"
How Orwellian. Turning off Big Brother is a now a thought-crime.
I keep list of places in the airports I frequent where I'm free from CNN's ceaseless spin for this guy. Major media's coverage of his trips reminds of coverage I used to watch in China of Chinese leaders' trips abroad -- all 'historic' this and 'historic' that, everything 'unprecedented', 'groundbreaking' and 'successful', the leader 'dazzling' his hosts, etc. Yuck.
I'm old enough to remember feeling sorry for people behind the Iron Curtain who had coudn't trust state-controlled media. Never thought I'd live to see the the West's 'free' press surrender so willingly.

Peg, I'm chuckling at your description, it's right on the money.
ExDem, I only watched Pres. Bush when he spoke to people in a relaxed atmosphere.
Posted by: lala | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 09:54 AM
Others turning Obama off is the best news I've heard in a long time.
He's at the top of every radio news segment, on almost continuously at CNN and if nothing is happening, we get to hear he's on a date with his wife, walking on the White House's back 40.
And Obama complains Rush Limbaugh has too much unfair exposure!
The sycophantic supercilious "state run" media not doing their jobs is actually more disheartening. No criticism at all.

I took the "race" remark as a joke. But only bobby knows what he meant.
Posted by: lala | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 11:33 AM
I was a big supporter of W and I did not enjoy listening to him. He was much better in unscripted and relaxed situations. Even so, on his worst day with a scripted speech he was a better speaker than this guy, when you consider speech patterns, fake accents, arrogance and especially content, sincerity and the TOTUS. W's sincerity usually shone through (unless he was babbling about immigration and spending). The first time I saw Obama speak I was astonished at how fake he was and how mesmerized and hypnotized his "fans" were. Scary X 1,000. I cannot understand how everyone can't see it. It's just so obvious. We have some friends who are increasingly openly saying that there is absolutely no there there. 15 months ago you couldn't find anyone who would say this (except us diehards).
I'm a big supporter of Sarah Palin. Sometimes her speech patterns have put me off a bit, but her honesty and sincerity shine through her words. She is getting tougher and more forthright with a good grasp of facts. With Matt Lauer yesterday, she was excellent. Dems are right to be scared to death of her and a few other Republicans, because increasingly over the next 3 years anything else is going to start looking great compared to this awful schtick going on. And I really believe he could drag whole hoards of Dems over the cliff with him.

Funny thing is they don't even see it coming. And yea, race remark seems to be sarcastic in nature.
Posted by: Chris | Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 12:06 PM
Chris, I don't know about the Dem politicians. I think someone is starting to see it coming (Carville, Emanuel, etc.?) because a lefty smear machine is working full time to kill any nascent Republican hopefuls in their beds so to speak. Anyone on our side with a whiff of a chance is in the crosshairs. These people won everything and they are still devoted full time to destroying real conservatives while offering "help" to Republicans (Colin Powell? shoot me now!). I think the left besides being permanently deranged is also permanently paranoid. They go together. This whole movement is deeply, deeply ill. So in some ways I think they always see it coming. Some of them, in their heart of hearts, must see by now how truly destructive and deeply anti-American our "president" is. They can't all be 20-somethings hoping for the mass premature deaths of millions of Boomers via universal healthcare (which is what that could easily bring about). The movement is ill but there are some with their wits yet, even politicians. And I bet they're scared spitless. At least I hope so!
This is why we cannot let up!

"took the "race" remark as a joke."
Yeah, I was actually going to respond to it myself, then I realized I had missed the sarcasm. As a blogger, I love subtle sarcasm - but it's so hard to do on the Internets, I usually end up having to put up a disclaimer. I wonder if tone of voice, facial expressions, etc - which we obviouslylack here, is important to making it work in RL.

I despise Bill Maher so much that I canceled HBO out of my cable TV lineup. This was years ago, shortly after 9-11, when he said the Muslim terrorists were 'courageous' for flying planes into office buildings.
Someone else said recently 'If Obama has lost Ted Rall he's lost Anti-America.' What Bill Maher said is another bit of evidence proving that point.

Ed. Note -- You'll have to excuse this comment. It's from a liberal and we can't expect them to be able to read. -- DR

Only he said this on his ABC show, which proves you're a liar.

Maher started on cable, baby. Thank you for confirming your stupidity for us out of the chute. We like to establish these things about our guests early on.

You call out stupid but find nothing stupid about someone canceling HBO in protest of an ABC show?
I'm just sayin'...

Bill Maher "started" with a show called, funny enough, "Politically Incorrect". After that was aborted he had a hiatus before going on HBO. Like Franken and Letterman, he was once a bit amusing, but then melted down with O'Donnel, Olbermann, Franken, Letterman, Goldberg, Bernhard and the rest of the not funny lunatics.
BTW...it's 'chute', not 'shoot'....just saying.

"canceling HBO in protest of an ABC show?"
And I'm just saying you've been making yourself look like an idiot - which is why I called you one. Did you even READ the comment you have been going on about??? Is there something about "years ago" that is too sophisticated for you to grasp? Read it. Idiot.
"despise Bill Maher so much that I canceled HBO out of my cable TV lineup. This was years ago,"

Um...haven't been 'going on' about anything...this was my only post on this thread.
You hadn't called me an idiot...but I guess you are now. Ouch.
(Did you even read the comments/thread and who's posting?)
"I despise Bill Maher so much that I canceled HBO out of my cable TV lineup. This was years ago, shortly after 9-11, when he said the Muslim terrorists were 'courageous' for flying planes into office buildings."
The comment that offended was on the ABC show. His HBO show came long after the offending comment,a nd long after 9-11.
So someone missed out on some good Sopranos for no good reason.
Ask poster 'Number 6' to clarify.
And if he made a simple mistake, try not to call him an idiot.
