Why is France always so damned weak when it comes to International affairs?
Oh, sorry. Sarkozy is standing strong and speaking out for freedom. I must have confused him with Obama, who instructs - we have to stop "meddling" in other country's affairs. All this story needs is a helicopter in the desert for that total Carter feel. As for meddling, well, unless you're building settlements on the West Bank, of course. Then he can meddle all he wants?
While the strongest beacon for freedom the world has ever known might not have gone completely out, it sure is burning mighty dim these days in the White House, I'm sad to have to say.
PARIS (AFP) — French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Tuesday branded Iran's election result a fraud as the international outcry over the security forces' crackdown on the opposition in Tehran intensified.
Governments from Asia to Europe voiced concern about the violence that erupted Monday during rallies protesting the hardliner Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's re-election, with US President Barack Obama saying he had "deep concerns" while also not wanting to meddle in Iran's affairs.
But while some governments tried to avoid taking sides, Sarkozy said the unrest was a direct result of Ahmadinejad's failings in his first term.
"The extent of the fraud is proportional to the violent reaction," said the French leader.
"It is a tragedy, but it is not negative to have a real opinion movement that tries to break its chains," Sarkozy said.
"If Ahmadinejad has really made progress since the last election and if he really represents two thirds of the electorate... why has this violence erupted?"

Isn’t this what George W Bush told you was going to happen in the Middle East?
Maybe that’s why Barack Obama has so little apparent interest in finishing the job in Iran… no matter how much it benefits the US and free world.
Anyone who expected him to act in the interests of the United States -rather than for his own political security- hasn’t taken a serious look at how Obama got this far in the first place.
