I've never had much to say about MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, as I've never found him particularly noteworthy. But the links I just found are as annoying, as they are telling. He's written a book on the way forward for Conservatives: The Last Best Hope.
Isn't it at least a little bizarre that the grand book party for said book would be held at the home of Margaret (so liberal you can't take her seriously) Carlson? And that the guest list (with video) included such notable conservatives as - Andrea Mitchell, Dana Milbank, Chris Matthews, Ana Marie Cox, Norah O'Donnell, Frank Foer, Evan (Obama is god) Thomas, Michael Isikoff and Bill Press?
I mean, really. But it gets much worse. Apparently Mourning Joe doesn't need week after week on the NY Times Bestseller List like Levin's Liberty and Tyranny to get some pub. He's already been featured in The New York Times Magazine, Newsweak, The New York Post and who knows where else. Man, that book must be jumping off the shelves. And what, at least in part, is Scarborough's message? Well, he has some good points on spending and such, but....
After he's done bashing Bush for Iraq, the conservative from the Olbermann network thinks the Right is too harsh - off the charts. And if you read around the links, of course he has some negative things to say about Right-side talk radio, too. That's especially interesting given how well Levin's book is doing among conservatives, wouldn't you say?
And naturally he defends Colin Powell and attacks the Right for some of its Sotomayor rhetoric.
Evangelicals and Hispanics are going to respond to whoever is leading the movement, and the GOP has to prove it's not run by harsh ideologues with a narrow agenda. If we want to exclude people who think like Colin Powell, we will continue losing voters.
What does the future Republican Party look like?
It looks a lot like the conservative movement that's outlined in this book.
I'm not going to go on about him, as frankly, I'd probably go over the top right now. The fact is, this conservative MSNBC host, who all too often comes across as clownish to be good for Conservatism in my view, is joining in the movement - enabled by his mainstream media pals - to run Conservatism and conservatives down for personal gain. But I will say this.
When someone aligns himself with something only to undermine it with the help of the opposition, useful idiot is the commonly accepted term. But I can't really call Scarborough that, as I've never found him to be that useful for anything serious at all.
In his case, maybe one has to be an MSNBC liberal to appreciate how that actually works.

I don't know. Joe doesn't seem so bad to me. He doesn't really go after other conservatives - I don't think he undermines the movement at all. Not like Peggy Noonan...now there is a useful idiot.

The fundamental truth is that if the GOP doesn't get the Hispanic vote, or find a way to split off middle class and affluent Hispanics from the illegals and the underclass then they are not going to be winning any more national elections.
Bush had SIX YEARS of full control of the Congress and a pretty solid 5/4 majority on the supreme court and he did nothing on immigration. That might have been his legacy instead of the clusterf**ck in Iraq.
By the time the GOP ever gets that much power back at the national level it will be too late, much too late to do anything substantial about illegal Mexican immigrants who are changing the very nature of this country.

The state run media can try to sell the Soros doctrine that 'Pubs bad Dems good as much as they want. The campaign to discredit conservatives started with the Rush is their leader stuff!
Come 2010 the House is going to be on fire when we kick out Uncle George's minions! It will take a little longer for the Senate and POTUS but there is no doubt that the current Pravda campaign will fail!
The American people have seen the writting on the wall!
Just look at what Europe did this week in their elections! The trolls are on their way out, they better push their agenda through in the next 12 months cause they won't be around to see the new congress pick up the pieces and clean up the crap they left in the yard!
The best part is Pelosi will be gone in short time. Now it's time for some of those grumpy conservatives to cleanup the destruction inflicted on our Rebublic by this failed social experiment I like to call Xerxes!

Have they? Based on what, Obama is still polling between 60-70% favorable. The GOP still doesn't have any message traction.
The American people aren't going to 'wake up' to the Democrat's scam until they actually begin to see that it was a lie that they--middle class--were going to pay less in taxes under Obama...there is going to be a time lag of at least a couple of years, at this point, I'd say there is a very, very strong chance that Obama is going to get a second term.
Posted by: anon | Monday, June 08, 2009 at 11:44 AM
Obama may get the second term based on the Pravda press controlling the message but by then congress will be controlled by a more moderate faction of independants and conservatives.
Just as happened to Clinton his second term would be one of following the congressional agenda instead of Uncle George's! The key isn't Xerxes poll numbers it's congress! Sorry but Harry and Nancy are simply Soros pawns that are living on borrowed time!
Even Chavez is joking about he and Castro being to the right of Xerxes!
The trolls days of controlling the country are numbered they are just too stupid to see the handwritting on the wall. Every time they gain power they screw it up! They have a bad habit of overplaying their hand and the American people have a nack of calling their bluff!

Okay, I can buy that, but based on what do you think the GOP is going to retake Congress? Again, so far, all they've gotten is bad press and the Democratic Congressmen have basically opened the federal goody bag via the stimulus.
Unless Obama's plans start to acrue negative results that are tangible, that people can see and understand I don't see any reason to expect the GOP to retake Congress, they may regain some seats, but to get a majority back in the house? I don't see it, at least not at this point.
Yes, it is true the Dems have a bad and long term habit of overplaying their hand, but its also true that the Bush Administration did inestimable damage to the GOP and even the term 'conservative'...
I still think that until tangible negative results are seen from Obama's policies the GOP shouldn't expect any kind of a turnaround.
And now that the media has totally unhinged itself from even the pretense of objectivity, it will be that much more difficult to get anything positive out about the Republican agenda.

Anon,
I don't think that anyone has a clear view of the process to retake the Republic from the Soro's, Xerxes, Pravda crowd. I just know that the mass majority of the those folks that don't live along the coastlines of America are sickened by what is transpiring in front of their eyes.
The need to lash out at Bush had backfired on millions of moderate voters in this counrty that are now wondering when will it stop. From nationalizing the automotive industry to the attempted takeover of the banking system the folks are simply not buying the policies of this Saul Alinski inspired "Rules for Radicals" president.
Despite the image crafted of the puppet master Soros' "Manchurian Candidate" once the reality of continued unemployment, ever increasing deficits and the continued move to have government be the "Be all, end all" in our lives his popularity will fall!

I think it will take conservative Hispanics to reach out to Hispanics for the right. I don't know if Hispanics have any of their own organizations working to promote conservatism, not just to elect Hispanics in particular, but I would hope so.

I personally don't think George Soros runs the Democratic Party and I don't think making Soros a message point does the GOP any favors.
I also think you are engaging in wishful thinking here. A number of states that haven't voted for a Democratic president in over THIRTY YEARS voted for Obama!! That is not all attributed to the black vote or the hispanic vote either. I know a lot of people who were simply fed up with the Bush Administration's arrogance and imcompetance and so they gave Obama a chance.
My opinion is still that the swing voters didn't vote so much FOr Obama as Against the Bush legacy and the GOP's complacency and acquiesence to his many bad policies.
But, if the GOP doesn't learn the right lessons from the Bush debacle then its going to keep on with the wrong messages, wrong people, wrong strategies and it won't get anywhere until its too late.
We can't afford to wait 20 or 30 years for the Democratic domestic policies to come to their final failed fruition.

"What does the future Republican Party look like?

And a lot like the GOP's '08 ticket, too, apparently. Thanks, but no thanks, Joe.
