Chuck Norris:
People are always asking me to run for some form of government office. In fact, there are some fans right now on the Internet proposing I run for president in 2012, and they are trying to accumulate 1 million signatures to get the ball rolling.
But for now, he has endorsed John Kasich for Ohio Governor.
John Kasich is running for governor of Ohio. As his website conveys, Kasich is the son of a mailman, who grew up in a blue-collar neighborhood in Pennsylvania. His values are rooted in faith, family, community and common sense. John was elected to the Ohio State Senate at the age of 26 and to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982 at the age of 30. As a nine-term congressman, John led the way in a variety of groundbreaking achievements, including constructing and implementing plans to balance the federal budget, create new jobs, reduce taxes, minimize the roles of government and other critical issues important to America’s founders. John is also well known as the host of a national weekly news show called “Heartland with John Kasich. Newsweek magazine named him one of its “100 people for the 21st century.”

Let's see. Eighteen years as a congressman, that qualifies him as a career politician. successful career on Wall Street. That qualifies him as someone cashing in on his Washington connections and puts him on Wall Street just prior to the financial collaspe. A fox news commentator.
Now, let's look at the specific record:
Kasich's approach to economic development relies almost entirely on tax cuts and deregulation for corporations. His support for the Job Creation and Wage Enhancement Act was just such an approach. After eight years of record tax cuts and 20 years of disastrous deregulation, one would think that approach would be discredited by now.
Kasich also famously supported the partial privatization of Social Security, something many Social Security recipients are now glad never happened, having been sobered up by the recent Wall Street implosion.
He supported the Strategic Defense Initiative, otherwise known as Star Wars. This was Reagan's multi-billion dollar dream to hit a bullet with a bullet, something they never quite pulled off. But hey, it worked out well for military contractors.

Off the main topic, but along the Chuck Norris thread... Back in Sept 07, I was on my way back to Iraq for the 2nd time. The Marines had a special guest visit at Camp Buehring, Kuwait - none other than Chuck Norris. Although I didn't get to meet him, the day he boarded his flight north into Iraq, the headline from Stars and Stripes was along the lines of "President Bush pledges to pull 50,000 troops out of Iraq."
