Looks like he finally did the right thing. h/t Rhetorican
Mr. Letterman opened the desk portion of his show with the apology in which he said he wanted to say he was sorry to “to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and also to the governor and her family and everybody else who was outraged by the joke.” Two weeks ago on his “Late Show” program on CBS, he had joked about Governor Palin attending a Yankee game with her daughter.

With all this stimulus, Letterman has created the latest shovel-ready project. Quick, you with the shovel... cover him up.

Really. an apology? Wasn't it more along the lines that you dolts are just too stupid to get the joke? Your perception is poor. Therefore, my joke was bad. It's YOUR fault Palins and you outraged out there in tv-land. ignorant peons.
On the other hand. Isn't it empowering to know that enough of us raised hell and forced him to address it AGAIN.

"It's the perception rather than the intent"
Letterman fails to grasp the fact that the perception of him is a perverted, bitter old man who lusts after under-aged children which terminated his intent to be funny.

Cynthia Yockly and Sebastian at Hillbuzz think you are a wimp for accepting the apology. They said something intertesting that Republicans give up too easily. I read that and thought they are right. Now I do not like Democrats tactics but they are right that to get rid of Bill M and Letterman is not to give up and keep pressure on CBs and their sponsors.
Letterman, Stewart, Bill M are the conveyors of popular culture that ridicule conservative ideas and people. In order to have a chnace of persuade the public about our ideas we have to stop those that ridicule us and our ideas. so persistance is needed to campaign against the popular culture icons and in this case that means comedians.
No more agreement that comedians are tolerated when they cross the bounds of decency. If you do not like vulgarity and shock jokes then we must be persistant and solid in going after their money source, the sponsors. Even if we know the sponsors are not guilty.
In this reccesion sponsors are very aware of the consumer and want to appease the consumers since they depend on us.

"think you are a wimp for accepting the apology."
I saw Dan Collins mentioned, not me. I didn't accept his apology. I haven't even seen it. I said "looks like" based upon a text report I linked claiming he was apologizing later that night. I've yet to say a word on the actual apology, not even sure I will as I'm not much interested in listening to the clown.

This was long overdue, and somewhat makes up for the snarky earlier attempt.
He should have done this as soon as he realized there were some who took genuine offense (as opposed to opportunistic offense).
It was especially good to see that he thought/knew to apologize directly to Bristol and Willow.
It's gotta be awful for those kids how much they used as talking points by all sides here.
