Dan at Gay Patriot offers some perspective on Obama's problems with the gay community. I'm afraid they'll have to do better than broken promises. Join the club! Not the equality you sought, perhaps??
Obama & Gays: The Problem is the (Broken) Promises
Democratic politicians, with a few notable exceptions, have an uncanny habit of breaking the promises they make to gay people. Aware of the affluence of our community and the dedication of our activists, Democrats know that by appealing to our interests, they can increase both their campaign contributions and their grassroots efforts.

In case Gay hasn't noticed, Democrat politicians have broken the promises to feminists, racialists, classicist and yet all these identities continue to vote Democrat; welcome to the slave plantation Gay.
Odd, the only identity whose promises were kept is the Environmentalist; perhaps this is how GE and NBC make their living, selling government -backed Green.

The problem for the gay community is they really don't have much of a choice, at least when it comes to the programs that they insist on. A large majority of the country does not want gay marriage. I am all for civil unions, but I sometimes feel that the gay activists do not want such a compromise. Unfortunately that's the best they're going to get in the next 10 years I'm afraid, unless they manage to either convince the public otherwise or get it by judicial fiat, which they DO NOT WANT. Best option is to leave it to the states, as it has seen some success there, or simply stop voting your "identity".

Alex:
Why would the LGBT community *not* want to achieve their "rights" by judicial fiat, especially a SCOTUS ruling?
Because isn't that how this whole business with Prop 8 got kicked off - when the State Supreme Court of California decided 4-3 that gays could marry?
And even if the SCOTUS (which as far as I can tell is trying to stay hands off of SSM) gave an affirming ruling (watch for it to be that pesky 14th amendment equality clause) ... it is less likely that we'd see the FMA revived, or DOMA expanded/protected by way of a new Constitutional amendment.
