"they believed for certain was nowhere near ready for the job, and might never be"

..and might never be"

Yea unlike the drunken Biden or the Kenyan Manchurian Candidate!!

Yet another state run media smeer campaign!

McCain was the choice of the left. Setup to be steam rolled by the Soros/Xerxes media machine. $700 million will buy a nice house in Washington these days!

Palin scares the left like no one else. They have their Astroturfing moles out in force to try and discredit her, her family and anyone else associated with her!

McCain is an American hero and as such deserves our respect. But he and his halfwit daughter need to quietly fade away and let the next generation of REAL conservatives lead the party out of the darkness left by Xerxes and his minions!

I kinda enjoy kicking around the intangibles of the messiah's election:

2004, bush +2.4%.
2008, obama +7.2%.

basically a difference of 9.6%. using the kerry/ohio method of election analysis, had mccain flipped 3.6% of the electorate, he'd be in the WH, right now.

palin, mccain, bush, obama, economy...etc.-all of these factors, combined with their post-mortems, lead me to ask the inevitable question:

if the gop was this bad, and the dem ticket was so good, why was the election vulnerable to the vicissitudes of a tiny slice of the voting population?

comparison 04 to 08, with the "two schools" speculation on shift:
1. give obama and the dems their due...their tikcet was strong enough to win over 5% more of voters, relative to 2004.

OR
2. obama and the dems were irrelevant, and the gop lost 5% of the voters with their 'inept' ticket.

the left could seize upon the idea that it was the culmination of the two events, but in doing so, they diminish the argument for position #1. Crediting a candidate for a 5% shift is quite dramatic...

let's go with the theory that palin cost the gop 3%...it provides that obama only managed to shift 2% of voters.

I'm kind of taken with the projections of Dr. Soejima who indicates that there is a very wide possibility that the oncoming hyperinflation of 2010 will result in Obama-Biden both stepping down, and some backdoor horse-trading that will result in Hillary Rodham Clinton being selected to the White House to finish out Obie's term after he resigns in disgrace over failing to contain the economic disaster.

In short, he is the Rockefellers'/Rothschilds' fall guy, and President Hillary Rodham will bring the ruined remains of the USA to heel under the UN/Globalists's agenda.

We'll have to see if he is correct, as the main way I could see this happening would be following massive unemployment (north of 35%) a worthless, hyperinflated currency, food shortages (both ecologic and economic as agri-corps hoard food to run prices up, and local farmers think of their local communities and families first), and the very likely possibility of armed insurrection in city and in countryside...

I found this surprising discussion the other day about NOW and Palin.

http://www.reclusiveleftist.com/2009/06/23/now-conference-infiltrated-by-now-members/

The McCain campaign -- incompetent f**ks! I live in Nevada and was going to volunteer at a voting site on election day. We had a conference call scheduled for the night before the election, and the McCain rep was 35 minutes late for a 30 minute briefing. He decided that he'd rather attend a rally. So I decided I'd rather sit on me arse on election day. And Rick Gorka, supposedly the Vegas meda flack for the campaign, wouldn't return phone calls to at least 1 media outlet, of this I know as fact.

The one time I did talk to someone from the McCain camp HQ here, it was 5 days after the Palin selection and he said the excitement was palpable, in calls, $, and volunteers -- all in response to Palin.

Sorry to ramble, but the idea of these McCain campaign scumbags whining just irks the bejesus out of me.

And yes, it was his incompetence on econ, creepy appearance in debates, failure to attack, and campaign "suspension" that gave us the The Deficit Leader.

Sheesh!

Let's put all the cards on the table.

McCain was leading until the Stock Market took a dive and Obama never looked back.
2008 was a year that Democrats and their media friends had setup to be a "The Year of the Democrat." Without Palin, McCain would have taken the record for worst Presidential showing ever .. it was in the cards. Palin made it a respectable loss.

If I believed in conspiracies, I say that the Stock Market dive was engineered and meant to be short lived, but, when Bush didn't save Lehman Brothers, it became very real. Any crazy ideas like that are backed up by the fact that there has been no "blue ribbon" commission to investigate the cause of one of the biggest screwups in US history.

Seekeronos. the trouble with your idea is that Hillary is far down on the list. If Obambi and Slow Joe both drop out, it's Pelosi. Then, I believe, some Senator, the President Pro Tem(?). Are you old enough to remember the then SecState Al Haig with his "I'm in charge here" when Reagan was shot and GHW Bush out of town? Such a hoorah, you would have thought Haig was going to unilaterally invade the Soviet Union, China and Mexico all at once.

"I say that the Stock Market dive was engineered and meant to be short lived"

I agree.

"Palin made it a respectable loss."

another sentiment, with which, I agree.

The stock market started tanking before McCain was the democratically elected nominee by registered republicans. The stock market was on it's way down as far back as December 2007. Re-write history much? How is that working out for you? Win any elections lately with that proven effective tactic?

Bottom line: Intelligent Conservatives do not and never will support that white trash idiot, Sarah Palin! The GOP knows this and needs to get her out of the picture now. Her supporters (4% of registered republicans) aren't enough to get her re-elected as mayor of Wasilla and Wasilla wouldn't want her back since she put that town $27 million in debt. Palin makes George W. look like a freakin genius. Make that annoying Muppet go away.

Why are we even still talking about Palin? When was the last time that a failed VP got this much attention?

They talk non stop about how much of a failure she is, but Obama flip flops his way across the globe and they don't care.

Enough. Want to talk about Palin? Why don't they bring up the fact that her church was burnt down?

the left's strategy of 'keep palin' down only works if she is on the ticket.

the plan backfires-if she "isn't" on the ticket. they'll have created a very powerful martyr.

The stock market took a dive in Nov. 2008, just look at almost any stock for that period. And I agree that it was engineered to fall.

"Finally, VP nominees don't win, or lose races. That advice is as old as presidential politics itself."

That has certainly been somewhat true in the past, but the Palin choice re-wrote those rules.
As much as folks wanna wax poetic about how much she 'energized the base' , any advantage that offered paled in comparison to the scores of once reliable Republican tkt voters who were turned off by her selection. No amount of giddy swooning over "Sarah-cuda" here can change that fact.
And even though what I'm saying is not a criticism of Governor Palin per se, most of you will not be able to read it as anything but. The game has changed now in that VP selections do indeed have consequences, because the majority of American voters know that elections do.

What if McCain's working for the other side? Then (most of) his whole career and campaign makes sense. He was told to put Palin on the ticket because the Left had to take her out early; and they've ruined her reputation most successfully. They didn't want that breath of fresh air threatening their mojo in 2012.

OMG the conspiracy theorists are on full alert today. The stock market was engineered to fall, the media who else chose the winner, McCain was a Democratic mole all along. Palin may be loved in Evansville as this article suggests but elsewhere she's mostly electoral poison. In fact as of now she sums up why the Republican party is not fit to be a party of governance. That 2/3 of Republicans treat this totally incoherent woman as a serious contender for the presidency disqualifies the GOP in most people's minds.

"McCain was leading until the Stock Market took a dive and Obama never looked back."

it was never the market. it is just a corellation.

it was the banking bailout-
short hx: the gop president, with his fed chief and economic advisers decide we have to nationalize the banks, without calling it 'nationalization'. both candidates favor the massive bailout. fiscal conservatives lose faith in bush, and mccain as well, for siding with the decisions made.

mccain had two ways to play it...he could have actually gone "maverick" and challenged the idea and the cost. he chose to let the stream carry him where it would by tying himself to bush, and failing to distinguish himself from obama.

I still think mac would have lost-even had he challenged the bailout, but he would have cut the difference in the vote by half.

Pete, normally I'd agree with you 100%.

Although, the chain of succession here addresses who becomes POTUS in a situation there the continuity of gov't. is threatened by an event where several leaders are incapacitated.

In the case I am talking about, a president and his VP step down - creating a power vaccuum that has not been tested.

Nixon vacated his office, and was replaced by his VP, Gerald Ford. Ford appointed Nelson Rockefeller, who then went under Congressional hearings per the 25th amendment.

Now if (in theory) a POTUS vacates (very possibly if the economy collapses irretrievably under Obama) and his VP follows him shortly thereafter (it takes several months to appoint and seat a new VP)... then we face an untested situation where the a new POTUS might have to be selected by the Senate.

And Hillary would be a very likely candidate, given her connections with the Rockefeller and Rothschild families.

Mantis, you should offer as defense your incredible ignorance. Palin is bright, beautiful, and formidable - as shown by her ability to take on and beat corruption in Alaska. That is integrity, something which progressive Democrats don't have and don't want. I truly hope she runs in 2012, regenerating the base and rebuilding the party on principle. She will squash the progressive bubble that insulates the tyrant thug Obama and his corrupt cronies. Those intelligent conservatives you claim don't support her are the RINO's that don't support conservatism. Their bleating indicates that they are as conservative as George Soros (the NAZI collaborator and Obama funder) is moral, as Obama is honest, and as Michelle Obama is smart. Obama will be worse for America than Carter and much worse for the world as the global henchmen kick Obama's tyrant loving ass up his throat.
If you voted for this bum I urge you to state that fact proudly after a couple of years of theiving Obamanomics.
It is sad to watch the destruction of the Constitution by a fraud and thief proceed unabated. Rise up for Freedom, or lay down as serfs.

Funny how a Palin post always brings the Lefties out. Ha ha!

Marko... with ya. This is no longer about shouting "Stop!" This is about roll-back. HARD.

PALIN 2012.

It's sad that in America today, Marco can't get the help he needs under our existing health care system.

Amazing how much bile is spewed on Governor Palin.

A party that can't hold its base isn't going to win. Period.

McCain wasn't going to hold the base with a "conventional" VP nominee. Why, other than fear of what Obama might do, would the base rally to McCain's flag? It's not like McCain was going to champion the things the base cares about or, given the Congress was likely to remain Democrat, be able to get much of it done.

There's a very obvious "joint venture" at work here - first, pressies & Democrats who fear the candidate Palin could become in a few short years; second, "Republican" campaign-types who want someone else to take the blame for their lousy candidate; and, third, McCain loyalists who don't want their guy going down in history as a LOUSY candidate who ran a LOUSY race.

As I remember it, the pressies & Democrats started telling us what an idiot Reagan was in the mid '60s .... that didn't turn out well for them, did it?

While Palin isn't Reaganesque today, she has that potential.

Mantis, FYI, this site is a spoof site.

Actually, what's funny is what leftists define as "ignorant".

Barack Obama, for example, supported and directed millions of dollars to people who were teaching this to public school children.

"Carruthers is a defender of Leonard Jeffries, professor in the department of black studies at City College in Harlem, infamous for his black supremacist and anti-Semitic views. Jeffries sees whites as oppressive and violent “ice people,” in contrast to peaceful and mutually supportive black “sun people.” The divergence says Jeffries, is attributable to differing levels of melanin in the skin. Jeffries also blames Jews for financing the slave trade.......

According to Chicago Annenberg Challenge records, Carruthers’s training session on African-centered curricula for SSAVC teachers was a huge hit: “As a consciousness raising session, it received rave reviews, and has prepared the way for the curriculum readiness survey....” These teacher-training workshops were directly funded by the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. Another sure sign of the ideological cast of SSAVC’s curriculum can be found in Annenberg documents noting that SSAVC students are taught the wisdom of Ptahhotep."

Meanwhile, I love the stench of terror that comes from the Obama Party's attacks on her. Not only that, it reveals the utter hate and evil that are at the core of liberals, given how their party supports and endorses the behavior outlined here.

http://www.stoptheaclu.com/2009/06/29/wonkette-co-continue-jihad-against-trig-palin/

"Most of us thought she was way, way out of her depth."

"Us", of course, being those puppets for Barack Obama like Mantis who also believe she faked her pregnancy and told everyone that her husband was having incestuous sex with their daughters.

"They let her play attack dog until it became painfully clear what kind of response she was getting from the base, and that response was scaring the hell out of normal Americans, and the campaign, of course."

Actually, the only people it was scaring were the Obama puppets like Mantis, who hilariously are screaming about this as they go pawing through private government records trying to find dirt on anyone who dares question Obama -- and that is not normal.

The reason Mantis and his ilk frantically attack Palin is simple; the only way their liar Obama can look good is to tear everyone else down.

" Intelligent Conservatives do not and never will support that white trash idiot, Sarah Palin! "

The problem with 'Intelligent anything' is the disconnection to character; intellect is often void of character or guts, those traits which actually produce great things. Take a look a universities today, full of flaccid professors who produce stupid steeple.

That said; eat my sh*t you bigoted idiot.

When the candidate is a 72 year old cancer survivor people do tend to pay attention to who you pick for VP.

I'm an Arizonan who volunteered for McCain in '00 and liked him in '08 until the pick of Gov. Palin. I would never vote for her. This was the first time in 15 years I voted for a Democrat.

" Intelligent Conservatives do not and never will support that white trash idiot, Sarah Palin! "

that's 'Governor' white trash idiot...

in the history of the United States, there have been 31 female govs. palin happens to be one of them.

usually, I don't pry into the personal lives of posters, and so please, answer this rehtorical question to yourself...

What have you been doing with YOUR life? if she is an idiot, what does that make you?

I'm an Arizonan who volunteered for McCain in '00 and liked him in '08 until the pick of Gov. Palin. I would never vote for her. This was the first time in 15 years I voted for a Democrat.

"Shawn", take some advice back to Axelrod; no one believes the "I was a loyal Republican who always supported McCain until Palin came along" schtick any more, mainly because it is always muffled due to the fact that the people pushing it have their lips so firmly fastened on Obama's ass.

In short, because you were concerned that McCain would die, you elected a Marxist racist with a resume thinner than tissue paper instead. Trust us, we're REALLY convinced.

I do not think it is true that people attack Governor Palin because they know she is presidential material and that they are terrified of her. Part of researching one's opponents needs to be understanding that one cannot simply attribute motives to them. Governor Palin is the Republican version of Bill Clinton. She has a big upside in the loyalty she inspires among her believers, but it is impossible to see how she will get above 44% or less with the way she cultivates getting her feelings hurt.

The Clintons actually put the Democrats back 16 years, and there is no way Bill Clinton wins without Ross Perot in 1992. It is possible Governor Palin will be our 45 President, but she either needs to work on the non believers within and without her party, or she needs Hillary Clinton to challenge Obama. Given The Clintons extravagant love of The Clintons, that IS possible.

However, it is a mistake to think Governor Palin has not created many of her own problems, and also a mistake to think she has President Ronald Reagan's gift for being real and projecting that real-ness.

"--- mutually supportive black “sun people.” ---"

Apparently this esteemed racialist professor neglects the fact that the sunny dispositions of inner city blacks... make the most of the black vs. black crime stats.

Bill Clinton never cared about anything but his own ego, and his appetites. That is why he allowed the military and intelligence services
to decline on his watch, why there was no progress on energy. He was the product of a corrupt political machine. Despite his liberal orientation, he didn't have the deep contempt that Obama has for this country.

Governor Palin, has been quite the opposite, she has fought the machines in both her party
(she helped take down the chief of the oil commission and the atty general) she broke
Exxon's hold on the state. They have come back on a partnership, but she will watch over it.
I don't think she ever talks in terms of I, instead of what people in the state of Alaska
have done.

I fully support Ms. Palin for the top of the Republican ticket in 2012. Newt would be an excellent VP choice as well. Or maybe Rush, but since he runs the party, he may not be willing to play second fiddle.

Ron Paul/Chuck Baldwin 2012. ;)

Whoops, I forgot about Joe The Plumber. Another excellent VP choice. Unfortunately, he's taken himself out of the race:

"Asked if he has plans to run for public office, he replied, "I hope not. You know, I talked to God about that and he was like, 'No.'" "

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=102631

I guess God's saving Joe for bigger things.

"I guess God's saving Joe for bigger things."

actually, his fifteen minutes of fame have set obama up for a major failure.

bambi told joe he wouldn't see his taxes go up...

the statement will only be true if joe doesn't smoke, doesn't have healthcare, doesn't drive a car, and doesn't use electricity.

odds are that obama will be reelected. a shame that his party doesn't hold his immunity from criticism.

Apparently you haven't been paying attention. Obama's been criticized from the left on his handlling of DOMA, and torture, his use of Bush-like policies, the economy, his appointments, etc

"Obama's been criticized from the left on his handlling of DOMA, and torture, his use of Bush-like policies, the economy, his appointments, etc"

Really? Where has the left called for his impeachment?

Look up criticism. You apparently don't know what the word means.

Nishner -- the left called for Bush to be impeached (and/or assassinated) for the very same policies you wave to as examples of the left "criticizing" Obama.

Let's see... if guy #1 does it, it warrants removal from office, but if guy #2 does it, you post some gripes to blogs, pen a few op-eds, and get on with life. Yeah, there's some stunning intellectual honesty for ya.

Intelluctual honesty? Please link to a mainstream member of the Left that called for Bush's assassination.

"As a lifelong Christian Conservative..." Lord I thought all those moby's disappeared after the election, but guess not...

The tea-baggers love to hang onto this fantasy the the Left hate her or are threatened by her. The Left love her!!! Why do you think the so-called "Liberal Media" keep her in the spotlight as much as they do? They want that po-duck politician to be the face of the Republican party along with Rush the pill-popper and Darth Cheney. With Republicans like these, it's easy to see how the Democrats got a filibuster proof congress. Palin can guarantee Obama a buttload of votes in 2012 just like she did is 2008. She is currently polarizing the Republicans with her handful of supporters (4% of registered Republicans) against the rest of the Republicans who either can't stand her or minimally feel that "hockey mom" is not qualified and/or intelligent enough to run the country. Gee, YA THINK? The Left are just sitting back and enjoying the show.

It won't be long before Palin will be up on stage at the Republican Primary Debates. She will be up there facing off against intelligent, experienced and educated Republican candidates like Gingrich, Romney, Pawlenty, Guiliani, Tancredo, Huckabee, Sampson (awww...TOO SOON?) or maybe even Jeb Bush with good old Karl Rove standing behind him and they are going to eat her alive. Her and her handful of followers (4% of registered Republicans) throw thumb-sucking tantrums about the mainstream media? Wait til they get done with her. That will be awesome must see TV!!! We may actually witness a candidate urinate herself on national TV. We've already seen a taste of it a few weeks ago at how badly she was slapped down like a rented liberal by her own party at the NRCC fund raiser. It's just the beginning. Hell, the Republicans in her own state can't stand her. How on God's great green Earth can a Liberal not enjoy Sarah Palin for these gifts she keeps on giving them?

Wall Street Conservatives can't trust her when she took a po-duck town like Wasilla and put it $27 million in debt. Libertarians can't trust here when she levies a tax against the energy companies in Alaska and takes the proceeds of those taxes and divides it all amongst the residents of Alaska as dividends. She took money from the haves and gave it to the have-nots which is the text-book definition of Socialism. The National Security Conservatives can't trust her when she whines and blats about the mainstream media, how is she expected to handle Iran, North Korea, Russia and China? How is she expected to go head to head with Kim Jong Ill or Vladamir Putin when she can't even handle Katie Couric? Hell, she can't even keep tabs of her own daughter under her own roof at home.

Liberal slogan -----> WE LOVE SARAH!!!

I love it when leftists, who lie constantly, expect us to believe that they WANT conservatives to support Palin.
