I think people missed an incredibly dumb move by the John Cornyn led NRSC. Toomey stepped out on Specter, causing him to bolt the party because he would lose in the primary. So, what did Cornyn do, besides turning on Toomey? He went after an aging politician, Ridge, one perhaps living in Maryland at the time, who would have probably done just as poorly as Specter in the Republican primary in PA. And he was bragging about it, until Ridge smartly opted to not run. How dumb is that of Cornyn?
Now in Florida, you have a Jeb Bush protege and rising Hispanic star said to be a gifted politician and speaker - and Cornyn tries to knee cap him, instead of letting Crist earn the nomination with a move never undertaken before. The NRSC has never jumped into a non-incumbent primary before. And then there's this:
And if you are hesitant, remember that Charlie Crist, the NRSC’s wonder boy, is set to sign into law a massive tax increase on the working people of Florida.
Cornyn may be many things. An effective head of the NRSC he is not.

I won't give them a penny untils they cut all this dead wood .

Cornyn is Republican, right? Why expect smarts?

The answer you hear from the DC GOP types is that they are ecstatic over Crist because he fits their needs - i.e. name recognition, has been elected statewide, and can raise most of his own funds. The fact that his policies are against the party's and he is more friendly with the opposition party's president than most in his own party doesn't seem to matter.
The GOP is so beaten down that they are, as Dan noted, simply playing for the W and not caring about longer term goals. What they don't realize is that these actions, like a team signing a bunch of aging superstars to try and win the championship, doesn't always work and will cause worse results down the road.
And I ask again - if Coryn/NRSC was so hot on Crist why didn't they let Rubio know so that he could go for the Gov seat and avoid this big black eye?

Lols. Good to see that even Dan Riehl can see the looming collapse of the GOoPer brigades, even with both eyes duct taped shut.
Just say no to electability, guys. Crist and Ridge are losers cause they refuse to kowtow to single-issue tax-a-phobes. Anyone that votes with a Democrat is a traitor to the cause. The country has never been more right wing that it is today, so run on that ticket till your feet bleed.
The House and Senate will be back in your pockets before you can say November 4th, 2010.

Don't forget it was this dumbazz that wanted the NRSC to sponser Benedict Arlen the week before he switched...or is it swished...parties.
.
The DC GOP has to go in its entirety not just the Corndogs, after all they selected this clown. The DC GOP has NO fortitue to stand for Conservatism and reduce the party membership dailey.
.
Oh yeah, take steele with you out the door...

Yeah, I would completely give up on the Republicans were it not for the stupidity of the Democrats. After the next two years of one disaster after another, the people would elect Lamo if he ran as a Republican.

Cornyn's head of the NRSC? No wonder I won't give them $$ - they are beyond lame. With Cornyn and Steele as heads, we're screwed. I used to like them both. When Dems go to D.C. they become more of what they were. When Republicans go to D.C. they lose their brains and their balls.
One of my signs at the July 4th tea parties will be Abort Congress. Now that's one abortion I can support.

Screw the GOP. If you are a true conservative, let's speed the GOP's demise to Whig-dom by supporting a party that actually cares about conservative values.

It'll be curious to see what you've got to say in 2010, when the Republicans don't pull out landslide victories. Maybe you'll join up with Seek and the Constitution Party brigades. That would be fun to watch too.

Of course I would rather see Toomey as a US Senator than Specter or Ridge, even though I was little impressed with Toomey's yearlong mercenary Club For Growth campaign against Huckabee. That was payoff to a handful of the largest Club for Growth donors. Some were just Romney supporters and one in particular was an Arkansas billionaire who had an axe to grind because Governor Huckabee didn't leap to do his bidding on a pet project. Billionaires may expect special service.
But the problem is that the only chance that a nominated Toomey will have in Pennsylvania is if by election time, Democrats have so trashed the country that they are electorally radioactive. Ridge would have been relatively fiscaly conservative and he's genial (Specter...not so much) and has friends in the GOP so that he wouldn't be beyond persuasion on other matters.

This is RINOs and "moderates" kneecapping the conservatives.
There will be no conservative positions supported by the Republican party until they fear the conservative leaving the party.
That is when the far left branch got the Dem mechanisms to listen to them ie: when they posed a credible threat to bolt and leave the party and run candidates against it.
Until then, the RINOs and power brokers running the Republican party will pay lip service only (and as little of that as they can get away with) to traditional conservative ideas, and no actual support or spine in the implementing of those ideas.
All three branches of conservative ideas (fiscal, social, and structural) need to reevaluate not splitting off from those insisting on accommodating the Democrats in everything.
And complaining about it is the same lip service the RINOs have been crapping out to the rest of the R party

At the rate we are going, there won't be much of a GOP left aside from the RINOs.

"It'll be curious to see what you've got to say in 2010."
It will be just as curious to see what you have to say, Lameo. I can see you twisting in knots trying to explain how your wonder boy has lost it all for you dumb asses. Of course, since I'm somewhat in the same boat, it will affect me as well. I'm for throwing all you liberal apes out of the boat. You go get in your own boat, I say. That might just solve the problem.

Haha, are you kidding? Inquisitions have already claimed one party scalp from the head of Arlen Specter. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe are on the block. Club for Growth boys are gearing up to back Rubio over Crist, Ridge has bowed out of the Pennsylvania race in favor of Toomey, and Perry is now leading the primary polls over Hutchenson in Texas. You've got die-hard conservative golden boy Eric Cantor as house whip and Jeff Sessions leapfrogging leadership ranks to take the Chairmanship in the Senate Judiciary. Michael Steele is little more than a figurehead while Rush Limbaugh has become the lightning rod of the party.
The RINOs are staring down extinction by primary.

Actually,
Crist has a problem.....Rubio will carry Miami....Crist will carry the I10 corridor...and the fight will be in north Florida....
Crist will be defeated in the Republican Primary..unless the NRSC pays off Marco.
