Contrary to his claims, the Dems voted against allowing Specter to keep his seniority, thereby stripping him of his one big advantage while running in a primary, or for re-election in a general. One possible scenario for what happened is simply too rich to overlook. Biden spoke with Specter multiple times on the switch. Did Biden's mouth write a check his clout couldn't cash?
Without any assurance of seniority, Specter loses a major weapon in his campaign to win reelection in 2010: the ability to claim that his nearly 30 years of Senate service places him in key positions to benefit his constituents.
Specter is trapped. He can't switch back. If he doesn't vote like a card carrying Dem, they can primary him. And they might do that anyway. If he does cave to go Left, he looks like a neutered puppet, which hurts him in 2010.
No matter how you slice it, Specter's switch has left him looking either weak, or the fool - and disloyal to boot. And that's the likely ending to a storied political career of a politician who swithed parties, not once but twice.
If it's all due to Biden, that's just icing on the cake.

OUTSTANDING POST! Poetic justice!!

Senator Arlen "Scottish Law" Specter a fool! Well citing Scottish law made Specter sound like a fool. Leave it to Dirty Harry Reid to make it official.

The unprincipled, disloyal egomaniac with a 70% GOP voting record. Yeah, it would be a damn shame to see him go.

He is all washed up. He should just go ahead and resign.
What a poor foolish mixed up human.
A sad, selfish, self centered jerk-off.

As far as Arlen Specter is concerned, it’s not about driving “moderates” from the Republican Party, it’s about the secret plan to send all imbeciles to the Democratic Party.
The downside of this plan is that the number of imbeciles was underestimated .. speaks volumes about the state of education.
Meanwhile, Arlen Specter has shown that his “imbecile” status is well deserved.

The upside for Republicans, given Specter's treatment by the Democrats, is that it is now unlikely that any of the other "moderate" Republicans will bolt to the Democratic Party.
For this I give a big "thumbs up" to the Democrats. Good Job.

No really. The Dems can have Olympia Snowe and that other token GOP senator from N.E.
