Chuck Schumer thinks it's good news that the four men arrested in NY weren't linked to any other terror group. Wrong. It means that precisely what authorities feared is indeed happening in America. With the advent of the Internet, which extremists use all too well for propaganda and education, terror cells can pop up almost organically, making them more difficult to detect. Nice try, Chuck! We're in the best of hands.
"If there can be any good news from this terror scare it's that this group was relatively unsophisticated, penetrated early, and not connected to another terrorist group," said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). "

"-- Chuck Schumer thinks it's good news that the four men arrested in NY weren't linked to any other terror group. Wrong. --"
Lols. Oh wingnut logic. Are you actually suggesting it would be BETTER if the four-man group was part of a larger, more complex, better funded, leadership-based terrorist outfit?
Timothy McVeigh and Erick Rudolf demonstrated that "terror cells can pop up almost organically, making them difficult to detect" 15 years ago. That doesn't become more or less true for the planned NY attack. Had these guys been part of a vast underground conspiracy, that would not deter future internet-based rogue extremists from pulling a stunt like this.
You're really really late to the game on this fear-mongering Dan. The reason we have a well-funded, able bodied, intelligent, and competent police force is to deter criminals - just like these guys - from carrying out their attacks. And guess what? The police force did its job admirably and well.
Rather than rushing out for a new pair of Huggies, perhaps you should just learn to say thank you.

There it is, Pres. Bush's legacy of keeping us safe on display once again. The investigation has been going on for a year. Thank you, Pres. Bush.

This is off your topic for the day. I just listened to the most arrogant speech by Obama concerning the Prisoners in Cuba Guentamano Bay. If that arrogant man brings those people to this country there will be hell to pay. I, as I know everyone else do not want those monsters in this country. The very though of them being tried in this country and the possibility of them being released into to general population is absurd.
Even the idea of them being brought to our country for trial is absurd.
"It" (Obama) trashed the Bush Administration and said we are and were not safe for 8 years.
What a lying peice of DO DO.
I am with RUSH. I hope his policies "fail" !!!!
I hope that Congress will not allow this. If this is not stopped we WILL be in more danger than ever before.
I do not want these people in my state in any prison in my state and I am sure no one else does.
It will make our country less safe and the people in this country now that are secret terrorist plotting to do harm to us will have even more reason to take over places and hold our people hostage near and around these prisons until there crimnal friends are released. I can see it coming if this is allowed. This is not a pleasant thought to even imagine.
"We the people" must not allow this to happen. Contact all of your representitives. Send emails and letters and make phone calls and do it today and everyday until he is stopped.
Put a stop to the "insane man" in charge of this country today.

IslamoLlama,

The above quote, to me, illustrates why you and your good-time buddies are doomed. You still think terrorism is solely a law enforcement problem, don't you? Methinks you've been in a sugar coma since 2001.

We used to have "Chin" Gigante. Now we have Chin Obama. What's with sticking that chin up in the air? Mussolini?
Posted by: lala | Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 12:18 PM
Did Schumer interrogate the terrorist before he made the statement and did he use enhanced interrogation techniques to get his answer? No to both points. He just wants to be out front with no facts to justify what he is saying. What a DA. The first letter is dumb and you can pick out the last letter.

"-- There it is, Pres. Bush's legacy of keeping us safe on display once again. --"
I think you appear to have "President Bush" confused with "the FBI". When you can show when the FBI was obligated to used warantless wiretapping in their investigation or how a judicious application of water boarding broke the case open when traditional police work failed, perhaps you might be on to something.
As it stands, you can't even claim that it was "Bush's" FBI that caught the crooks, as Bush hasn't been in office for five months.
"-- You still think terrorism is solely a law enforcement problem, don't you? Methinks you've been in a sugar coma since 2001. --"
See, that's been something of the joke. Domestic terrorism has always been a law enforcement problem. Invading third world countries didn't stop these clowns. There is no secret international network feeding these guys. The ONLY defense you have is your local law enforcement.
Bush ran away from local law for 8 years and it cost us trillions of dollars in waste. Obama starts ramping down in Iraq while using stimulus to beef up the budgets of local law enforcement and emergency response. And, comparing the first five months in office for both Presidents, he and Bush are tied zero-for-zero in successful terrorist attacks inside the US.

So the uhm 'patriots' on the right side don't think our well trained and very capable police and prison guards can keep the uhm, 'terrorists' from hurting us? How very proud you must be for that stance: You are cowards. Cowards.
Why you would disrespect an entire group of professionals is astounding. They are hard working and totally dedicated to their jobs of protecting us and keeping their jails running safely. Why would you do that to your fellow citizens? Are you a failure at your job? You probably don't think so - so why accuse the guards and prison professionals of the same thing? Are you really that frightened? You strong Americans, folding at the drop of media based fear. And it is just that: media based. No logical reason exists to think our brave and dedicated police and prison professionals cannot properly do their jobs. It is YOU who beleieve they cannot properly do their jobs. It is YOU who are so scared of what Cheney says, you would throw your own kids overboard to save your own butts. It is terrible to watch the once brave and strong people take the canard of fear and believe it so much. Sad really.
Bush has created such a philosophy of fear that you just throw away all your common sense to run away and hide. Just cowards. There have been no escapes from Gitmo - or any other place currently housing terrorists - which we prosecuted, not left in legal limbo. Bush has made you such a group of pansies it is terrible to watch. Please find your bravery and strength. Your children are looking to you for strength, not cowardace and capitulation.
Amercia: The once brave and strong showing the entire planet what you are made of - small minded and gullible little boys and girls. You must be very proud of what you have become - nobody else is. Just cowards.

It's very amusing to see liberals defending the local police. And prison guards, too!

"-- It's very amusing to see liberals defending the local police. --"
Liberals have always been a fan of good cops. It's just a shame we don't have more of them.
By contrast, conservatives have a habit of championing the most crocked, violent, racist douchebags to wear the uniform.
You only need to look as far as the wingnut hero list - G. Gordon Liddy, Mark Firman, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Bernard Kerik, to name a few.
Let's face it, conservatives only trust a cop they know will take a bribe. :-p

Several points come to mind.
1. One of the perps has a rap sheet that shows 27 arrests, but POTUS thinks we can rely on the legal system to protect us?
2. Several sources indicate that the four were converts to Islam while in prison and most of the prison imams are adherents of Wahhabist ideology. The principal source of funding for these programs: Saudi Arabia, the root cause of radical Islam today.

"Are you actually suggesting it would be BETTER if the four-man group was part of a larger, more complex, better funded, leadership-based terrorist outfit?"
Then you're rolling up more of them when the underlings start singing.

Jimbo- who you calling cowards you dumbass bitch?

This capture actually matters to some of us. The 2nd part of the plot was attacking NYANG planes at or flying out of Stewart Airport/Air National Guard Base. I live in the flight path of C-17s and C-5As flying out of that base.
Obama won't keep us safe; he despises this country. Its allies are his enemies and its enemies are his buds. W kept us safe for 7+ years after 9/11 (those planes flew down the Hudson over my house). There is nothing I wouldn't be in favor of doing to these Islamofascists who would kill me and mine. Nothing. And Chucky Schumer is just one of countless idiots in this state. And damn I love Dick Cheney. Now he is a man.

"Everyone knows that America is terrible at law enforcement. The FBI and Justice Department almost never investigate, catch, try and/or convict violent criminals. If they did, our prisons would be full of such scum. It would be crazy to put convicted terrorists in prisons."
You know, Patriot, your comment got me wondering. I may be a liberal, but your thinking seems to have a certain draconian logic to it. Rather than bring the Gitmo terrorists HERE, why not ship ALL of our convicted felons THERE. We could screw the Castro brothers royally and create a tropical paradise filled to overflowing with various kinds of miscreants, perverts, religious extremists and violent yahoos. The downside, you could argue, is that it might be almost as bad as creating another de facto state of Texas, but at least it would still be separated from our mainland by 90 miles of open water.

You know BOB, your comment got me wondering. I may not be a dumb liberal but your thinking has a certain facist logic to it.
The difference BOB, is those fine chaps in our jails are 'mostly' American citizens. Those terrorists that you love over there at GITMO, are not. Next time we catch them, because 1 in 7 return to battle, they should be shot.

Hey, kat. It's fun to have a quantitative problem to work on every now and then. As of January 17, 2009, approximately 245 detainees remained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (from GlobalSecurity.org). Another source put the population of foreign prisoners in the FEDERAL PRISON SYSTEM at 18,929 in 1994 (that was 22% of the federal prison population at that time). Considering that the proportion of foreign prisoners has grown continuously over the years, the numbers are probably even higher now. Even compared to the 1994 numbers, Gitmo detainees would then represent about 1.3% of the existing foreign prisoner population. It's hard to believe that this is anything that our prison system couldn't handle.
It amazes me how quick right wingers are to resort to fear-mongering over practically every single issue. All you have to do is look at the actual numbers to see how silly this concern really is.

And just look at how much damage only 19 people caused.
Posted by: lala | Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 10:39 PM
"And just look at how much damage only 19 people caused."
That's apples and oranges, lala. Those 19 people were not in prison.

It's not a terrorist group if someone goes into a immigration education office and guns everyone down. It's just a sign of a crazy guy that lost it. But when a Muslim plans to bomb a synagogue, it's considered a terrorist act. No....its the same thing...4 crazy guys that are just as crazy as the mass murderer. There are tons of nuts in this country, born and raised.
