How bad are Democrat machine politics in NJ? So bad I don't think this mope Corzine is being primaried himself. What a miserable failure.
Allies of New Jersey’s Democratic governor, Jon S. Corzine, are so worried about his re-election prospects that they are going to start spending and advertising heavily — in the Republican primary.
Mr. Corzine’s allies plan to attack the Republican they consider more formidable, the former federal prosecutor Christopher J. Christie, in an attempt to knock him out in the June primary, according to people briefed on the matter.
Lonegan is running against Christie in the GOP primary. He's something of an uber-conservative. Unfortunately, I think I'd have to agree with JWF on his non-electability state-wide in NJ.

You should be talking up Lonegan, not saying that he can't be elected. It's always like this, and if that's the way it is, then why pay attention at all? What's the point of going around always saying that "my guy can't win".
Yes he can!

There's a difference, Xr. I still remember Lonegan's ads from his last run. I had a negative reaction to them. FWIW - he just didn't sound to me like he could pull it off. So, I added that into my judgment. Reagan won in in 84. Could a con win it, again? Perhaps. But I'm not convinced Lonegan is the guy.

The GOP needs to win the '09 governor races in NJ and VA to get some momentum/positive spin going into 2010. VA can be dismissed as simply returning red as it has been run by the GOP until a few years ago. But NJ would be a bigger coup as the GOP hasn't been competitive here in years and that can be spun as more of an anti-O vote.
All that said I am not confident that the GOP won't screw this up and/or the Dem machine in NJ/ACORN will pull Corzine across the line despite low 30 approval rates.

Lonegan is perhaps too conservative for NJ but he is a much better speaker and debater than Christie. I will be happy with either one winning .

Indeed.
