Reports from Dallas indicate 55 year-old Valton Morgan was drunk and repeatedly tried to gain access to an apartment with two young women and a child inside. He eventually managed to get in. He might have been better off if he had not - he's dead. Don't look for this to get mentioned in coverage of Obama's dishonest gun rhetoric in Mexico.
Despite her roommate being armed, Sharp says the entire incident has left her feeling unsafe. "If she hadn't been here, there's no telling what would've happened. You can't help but defend yourself."
After a few minutes, Sharp and her roommate opened the door to make sure the intruder was gone. "He was coming back up the stairs and bombarded his way in through the door and knocked her [roommate] out of the way. She had no choice but to shoot. He was already in," said Sharp.
The man was shot once in the chest and tried to run, but collapsed outside the apartment. Morgan was taken to a local hospital, but died from his injuries.
Witnesses told police when they saw Morgan he appeared intoxicated.
Sharp said during the incident her roommate's child was terrified. "He ran to the back room and said 'the man's gonna get me'."
