Last night she pronounced it "one of the most important things I have written." Well, here it is and all it proves is her lack of importance to the future of the GOP. In a word, she's a lightweight, at least in thought, and her invocation of Reagan is short-sighted, at best.
The Log Cabin Republicans’ mission "is to work within the Republican Party to advocate equal rights for all Americans, including gays and lesbians." The group is centered on core Republican values, such as limited government, individual liberty and responsibility, an economy based in free markets, and a strong national defense. And in the spirit of the GOP’s founding beliefs—personal freedom and liberty—they are dedicated to securing full equality for gays and lesbians in America to create a stronger, larger, and more-unified GOP.
She points out Reagan's understandable and appropriate right-leaning, libertarian position in CA circa 1978:
California Republican state senator suggested a proposition for voters to keep gays and lesbians from teaching in public schools. (At one point, the initiative was leading in polls with more than 60 percent of voters supporting it.) In the end, voters rejected the proposition in November 1978, by a margin of more than a million votes. While several prominent Democrats and Republicans rallied to secure its defeat, one Republican in particular helped turn the tide—former California Governor Ronald Wilson Reagan.
What she fails to understand is that, along with his personal beliefs, Reagan was a skilled politician. He didn't just know what was important, he knew when it was important, as well.
Ronald Reagan himself gave different weight to different aspects of conservatism in different races. He was elected Governor of California largely on the basis of his stout opposition to the counterculture that was infecting California's universities and other institutions at the time. When he ran for President, his emphasis was on the economy first, foreign policy second, and the social issues a distant third, if they were on the radar screen at all. Those priorities were dictated by the Carter administration's disastrous record on economic policy and by Reagan's own decades-long study of, and opposition to, Communism.
So while Meghan McCain comforts herself by claiming to have written something important, it's actually not very important at all, except as a means of winning her more praise from the very same crowd she's been courting all along.
Social Conservatives are wrong when they push for such things as Constitutional Amendments on social issues of the day like abortion and gay marriage. But Meghan McCain is just as wrong and even less conservative when she pushes for a sort of gay advocacy via the GOP.
Serious and intelligent conservatives and Republicans appreciate the imprudence and dangers of government over reach, no matter what the cause. Meghan McCain either isn't experienced, or intelligent enough to understand that - let alone to have anything serious to say to the Right at this early point in her young life.
If she's truly smart, she'll think about getting a real job and accomplishing something serious in life before continuing to fool herself into thinking she has anything genuinely important to say at all.

"-- If she's truly smart, she'll think about getting a real job and accomplishing something serious in life before continuing to fool herself into thinking she has anything genuinely important to say at all. --"
Coming from you, Dan, that's a riot.

She has been boosted by the usual left-wing commentariat nitwits [Larry King whose moronic mutterings had a crawler: Meghan McCain: GOP Power Player] while his senescent babbling tried to make her look partly intelligent. He failed and she isn't.
A nitwit daughter of a halfwit daddy! Genes will out!

She honestly has nothing relevant or important to say for the reasons that Dan stated.
Rep. Bobby Rush from Illinois has accomplishments:
*Black Panther Membership
*Felony convictions
*Winning a Congressional seat to represent his cesspool in Chicago
*Being a Member of the Race Baiting/Socialist Black Congressional Caucus
So Ms. McCain clearly has nothing to offer. She clearly has no accomplishments of note.

Can you say Scott McClellan?
The MSM loves these airheaded halfwits. Just march em' out and prove that the conservatives are dumb or evil!
They are nothing more than poster children for birth control with nothing to add to the discussion and live a worthless existance of a life!
You know just like Lame-O!!
Keep those talking points coming!

Do you mean "Social Conservatives are wrong when they push for such things as Constitutional Amendments on social issues of the day like abortion and gay marriage." from a political point of view, a moral point of view or both?

"Social Conservatives" have a rather important role in the discussion, just as much as their opposite numbers amongst the LGBT rights/advocacy crowd.
Generally speaking, the Bill of Rights of the Constitution define our liberties and give them legal protection. This is why the wording of those amendments almost always seek to expand liberty rather than constrain it.
That is, a proposed amendment of the form "gays are not allowed to marry" will almost certainly fail, because it calls upon 34 states to put the amendment up for consideration, and requires no less than 38 states to ratify what is essentially a denial of a "right" to a very small but exceptionally vocal minority.
Prohibition (19th Amendment) possibly stands as a rare exception, but was a product of the Temperance zeitgeist of the post WW1-era, and was itself repealed by a later amendment.
SoCons are not *wrong* for resisting what they see as evil (the public protection and worship of perversity and sodomy) and certainly have a moral basis for their resistance.
However, the likelihood of actually succeeding in overturning Roe v. Wade, or gay marriage once it also becomes the de-facto law of the land - it WILL happen, whether we like it or not, save only for a massive national revival of souls for Jesus) is very, very low - quite possibly indiscernible from zero at this point.
Therefore, I believe that the political point of attack that SoCons use are invaluable in keeping the *issues* alive, if only to act as a brake on the increasing levels of godlessness and state-sanctioned wickedness from overtaking this republic.
It may be becoming a losing battle perhaps, but as Dan remarked on someone's call to make a stand on a "hill worth dying for", fighting to CONSERVE the values that made our nation great is no shame at all.
SoCons should also continue and especially intensify their efforts in the battle for souls, winning people to Christ - and away from the sinful lawlessness of this present age.

"a political point of view, a moral point of view or both?"
I only speak to the political, while respecting other's "moral" views based upon their religous convictions. Those should be honored through the democratic process, at the state and local level as much as possible.

She hasn't yet learned that as long as she is attacking conservatives like Rush or Coulter she will be invited on every left wingers show as a guest. Once she stops its over. They will use her and then abuse her. Notice Cindy Sheehan could get on any MSM show she wanted as long as she bashed Bush. Once she announced she was opposing Pelosi for Congress and attacked Dems she couldn't get TV ..

She is being egged-on by the left somehow, you can bet on it- so as to make some smokescreen and diversion from real issues and create discord in the GOP- same as Team Obama and the DNC's games regarding Rush Limbaugh, Michael Steele, attacks and fake "scandals" re. Jindal and Palin.
Her daddy needs to tell her to shut up, nobody cares what she has to say.

She should marry Allahpundit. Then they and our betters could form a new winning party. In fact Dave Burge has put together a list of our betters. http://iowahawk.typepad.com/iowahawk/page/7/
