While I wouldn't be surprised to see Republicans caught out on an issue like this too, I was a bit surprised to see this item about a Democratic Governors Association meeting in Georgia that just happened to coincide with the last two days of The Masters golf championship.
Iowa Gov. Chet Culver’s office put out a press release this morning that said he would attend the Masters in Augusta, Ga., this weekend to cheer on Iowans Zach Johnson and Jack Newman.
Oops. Johnson and Newman both struggled in today’s second round and will miss the 36-hole cut at the Augusta National Golf Club.
It doesn't seem like they've gotten a lot of work done this weekend given the lack of mention of the event on the DGA's site. Though they are looking for sponsorship for an event that just happens to coincide with the Kentucky Derby. And whatever they accomplished, beyond watching some primo golf, it certainly isn't making any news. But then, maybe that's by design. I wonder how many hard working governors sacrificed their weekend for what I bet was a torturous round of meetings when they weren't out walking the links and don't want their constituents knowing about their sacrifice. Heh!
May 1-2, 2009 | Louisville, KY Kentucky Derby Requires Additional Sponsorship
I believe they use campaign cash not tax payer money for their travel. So that isn't the issue. But we all know who will be picking up the tab for these events, the same special interest groups and lobbyists we're always told are so bad.
And if nothing else it'll allow the politicians to hob knob and rub elbows with the same corporate CEOs and managers they'll go back to bashing and taxing on Monday, I suppose.

If Corzine goes to the Masters, tours the south of France, or whatever - I've got no problem with that. What I object to is his coming back.

haha, Mr Snitch. Along those lines, don't you think Congress should investigate the Bermuda Triangle?

Imagine the howls of outrage from media outlets nationwide if Sarah Palin were to show up at an obvious junket like this.

I would encourage them all to go there for a fact finding mission and not come back.

I think it's an accomplishment for Dem governors to meet and not come out with new tax and spend policies. Maybe we should ship all dem governors to an island for fifty weeks out of the year. Our wallets and those of our kids and grandkids would be much safer then.
