Nour Hadid: Give Her The Headscarf Back

Tim Blair has some fun over an item involving a 26 year-old woman accused of beating her 2 year-old niece to death. Her husband is complaining as her mugshot was "an insult to Islam." She was photographed without her headscarf.

It's unfortunate, as I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the woman has been badly beaten herself in the past. But still. Geez.... Given that her cover has now been taken away due to a suicide threat, maybe they should consider just givng it back.

First of all, let me make one thing clear. This woman IS NOT a representative of Islam. Many people here get a little too happy at any chance to start making fun and punishing Muslims (Freedom of religion?)I'm a Muslim American, and very proud of my nationality and religion. I never broke the law, made fun of anyone, never been a racist, and I have always treated everyone with respect, no matter what they chose to wear,or what religion, if any they follow. A child is killed every five minutes in America. There is no percentage on how many come from what religious background, what ethnic background or even age groups that perpetuate these horrible crimes. There are also low statistics no socio-economic data on who commits these crimes. We often think only the poor and ethnic do these things but there are so many battered women's shelters filled with woman that lived upper middle class lives that got beaten by their husbands. They are hiding in fear trying to put their own life and the life of their kids back together. A child beaten is sad and horrible. As a person it sickens me. When I see the racist remarks made out of hate or ignorance against an entire religion for the act of one horrible person as an American it shames me. I thought we were a greater nation. Our founding fathers came from another country, wearing different clothes and speaking different languages than the natives that lived here. Remember, our founding fathers and mothers came here to flee prosecution in those "civilized" countries. FYI...Had this family been true Muslims, this crime would not have been commited in the first place. Therefore, her husband I assure you does not really care about his wife and her hijab, nor does he care about the poor child that was killed. He does however care about getting his pocket filled with extra cash (which hopefully he won't have a case). Him and his brother, the father of the child, should be thrown in jail for putting the child and the aunt in the position they did.

I am a Caucasian, middle class American who converted to Islam in my mid-twenties. This conversion was due to the extensive research and time I devoted to the study of world religions in college, and was entirely of my own free will. Being such a person has given me a unique perspective on both the average American mindset as well as the Muslim mindset. I assure all who will listen that Islam is indeed a religion of peace. I encourage those who do not agree with me and who make contrary arguments to actually sit down and read the Qur'an.
The woman in this news story, if she indeed killed the young child, is despicable, and I assure you not a representation of Islam. However, so many people are committing heinous crimes every day in this country, but I only ever hear about what religion these criminals happen to be if their religion happens to be Islam. I never hear about a murderer, "and he was Christian", or a murderer "and he was Jewish". This is because to vilify Islam is big news in this country. It is a nationwide witch hunt, and we Muslims are the unfortunate victims.
I do feel that the removal of this woman's headscarf is an example of the lack of respect this country has for Muslim people. When people are arrested in this country, they are supposed to be "innocent until proven guilty", but I do not see this to be the case in the Muslim community.

I fail to understand why people refuse to open their minds and their hearts to their Muslim neighbors. I have been flipped off, given dirty looks, and yelled at to "go back to my own country", even though I was born here, and my parents were born here, and my grandparents were born here, as well as my great-grandparents, and all relatives as far as we can trace back to the beginning of this country were all born here.
Muslims are here to stay in this country, and people need to learn to respect us as we respect our neighbors (and if you don't think we do respect our communities, maybe you should try visiting a mosque and getting to know some real Muslims instead of just listening to what Fox News has to say with their biased reporting).
