The stupidity of establishment Republicans never ceases to amaze me. Obviously the Inside the Beltway boyz are pushing this as a big deal. Remember the knives that came out for Palin in the wake of the worst Republican campaign since Bob Dole's? Well, they haven't been put away. The Republicans in DC should take the advice Chuck Grassley recently offered to AIG execs and take the knife to themselves. You idiots couldn't even easily put away a special election for a District in which Republicans out numbered Dems by tens of thousands.
For the most part the GOP has lost touch with the people. And reaching back, or inside is not going to provide them the energy, insight, or leadership they need for the future. If this is the path they choose, you may as well mark Obama as re-elected now, no matter how badly he screws up. The Republican opposition is looking far too lame to compete in a serious race.
Or, heading north for another metaphor - putting old dogs in front of the same old sled isn't going to change a thing.
Sarah Palin is out and Newt Gingrich is in.
Congressional Republicans decided Tuesday to ditch the former GOP vice presidential nominee in favor of the former House speaker for the critical House-Senate fundraising dinner in June 8 in Washington. It's the marquee Republican event to raise money for GOP House and Senate candidates.
As for inviting Gingrich, National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Ken Spain said the GOP "decided to go in another direction." "Speaker Gingrich is a leader," Spain added.

Newt is the one who should be out front. He speaks well, can debate anyone and offers new ideas. I love Sarah Palin but she needs a few classes like Eliza Doolittle before taking stage again.

I love Sarah Palin also, but this very high profile "official" punishment of her by the party has all but destroyed her prospects for President, in my view. While anything is possible, at this point, I don't see how she recovers from this. And while the party is not doing itself any favors by casting the klieg lights upon this issue, if what I read about the lack of communication and organization between her PAC in D.C. and her Alaska staff is true, Sarah hasn't helped her own cause either.
A true leader in the party needs to emerge... and he/she needs to be an untarnished, down to basics Reagan conservative who is a down-to-earth natrual-born leader (without having a cult-like attraction) who can draw people and resources while delivering a clear message.
And we need this person, yesterday.

I just don't get all the entrail-reading prophecies from the media, blogs etc. cause Palin said no to giving the speech and the NRCC found another speaker. Personally, I think both these PACs need to learn the tail don't wag the dog. SarahPAC didn't even bother to mention the offer to her, much less get her agreement to speak. Personally, I think both these PACs need to learn the tail don't wag the dog.

Newt hasn't led anything but his own self-promotion campaign for decades. And if you understood the ethics rules involved with Palin and her DC PAC, you might not be so quick to judge.
Stop swallowing the same bilge DC Republicans have been feeding you for decades. I don't know or care if Palin is viable in 2012. Ask me in 2010. For now, she's doing her job in Alaska, while the same old crowd in DC is doing what they always do - playing games and craving power.
Gingrich can be a decent behind the scenes guy. He's smart. The face of any new GOP he is not and will never be, again.

Let's keep up, the update on SP: she declined the invite due to her real job responsibilities as AK Governor. Sarh P. has better things to do than talk to deadhead RNCer's...for a surreal analysis of SP etal check this out: "Seeing Demons in Sarah; Mitt Romney’s New House by Bernie Quigley"

Is this the same 'leader' who sat next to Pelosi for global warming propaganda commercials? I'll pass, thanks. He's another former conservative who is more in love with being on TV than in being a real conservative leader. Sad, really.

Based on the public fashion in which they "disinvited" her, it looks like DC Republicans wanted to embarrass a sitting Republican governor and the party's former VP candidate over what was at worst a miscommunication (probably resulting from AK ethical walls, as Dan alludes to). This party will gain no traction, no matter how badly Obama screws up, if this is the insiders' idea of public relations and how to treat one of their own.

Yeah, an articulate guy who has no national prospects as a winning Presidential candidate. Fine. If he's likely to get the Congressional Republicans to rediscover some conservative principles I'm all for it, but I'm not holding my breath. Personally, I'd prefer Palin sit out 2012 and go for 2016.

Romney people, Romney will be our next nominee. After the messiah is done turning the recession into another great depression, Romney will be the man on the white horse with his proven economic plan in hand and win in a landslide. If Huckabee would have did the right thing Romney would have been our nominee.

Yeah, and idiots like Allah Pundit are publicly gloating about the whole fiasco. And I'm sure David Frum, Charles Johnson, David Brooks, "Moron", and the rest are celebrating as well...just privately at the moment. Wonderful group of people we surround ourselves with here on the right. At least the left usually shoots their bullets at us, and not themselves.

The key word is Idiots, fullstop, they really don't appreciate the kind of talent she is. or the unique demands of the Alaskan political culture, She described exactly the world we'd be facing nearly 7 months ago, and the One's M.O. and for that she had to be nearly destroyed
with liberl use of the Alinsky method, They'll learn the hardway

The GOP flailing around again in front of the world, I see. Wake me up when we begin to attain some cohesiveness. To disrespect anyone who has pull in this party can hardly be afforded. Those that possess this excitement should be encouraged and nurtured not attacked and yes I'm talking Sarah Palin. She is more exciting than anything coming down the chutes in the Republican Party in a very long time. I like Gingrich very much; extremely intelligent but again this Party can afford to disrespect new faces and energy like we can afford another Obama term. Newt’s had his time at bat and batted 1000 but Newt's creation eventually allowed for GOP selection of John McCain but more importantly when we had the majority of both houses we squandered it, big time. I respect John McCain with all my heart but the poor dear couldn’t get through an entire sentence during the campaign and I blame the GOP directly for this. Newt was part and parcel creator of what we have today....nothing.
Now, let’s get on with the hand to hand combat for 2010 and take back Congress. Let's see how well Newt and Steele do with this before I defer my selection of Mitt and Sarah in 2012.

I like Newt, he has good ideas and has been a powerhouse behind the scenes for some time. I wish he had run against the Obamanation. Palin is nice and easy on the eyes, but I have yet to see her "lead".

Bottom line is that the hapless clowns running the GOP have cut our throats.
Not satisfied, they're going for the spine, as well.
Until we get rid of the clueless, time-addled buffoons, the party is effectively leaderless. Worse, they're driving us into the hole with idiotic "ideas" like making the party more "Hip-Hop." I'm surprised Steele didn't say, "we need to get on that Interwebs thingy."
I like Gingrich, but he's radioactive. With the press working full-time for Obama, he is useless. Sadly, this is also true of Palin, but she can get past it, if she gets support. Gingrich is permanently damaged.
And he represents the old guard, who thought they compromised with the communists now running the government. All the old Republicans are living in a world that never existed, where they thought you could "work with" the Democrats.
In short, they are bringing a knife to a gunfight and expecting us to die with them.

Beltway Republicans are beginning to remind me of the nobles in the movie 'Braveheart', satisfied with the scraps at Longshank's (i.e. Democrats) table. They are every bit as worthless as they were in the pre-Reagan days.

If the GOP wants a loser they have him in Newt no way no how could he win he has more baggage remember the reason he resigned from the Senate? Sarah needs to surround herself with people that will help her not hinder her like they are doing. I don't think Sarah ever personally said she would speak in June but that is their loss as she would have brought the GOP big money. I am so disgusted with my party they have lost their way and if they don't get their head out of their butt we are going to lose again 2012.
NEWT GINGRICH IS NOT THE ANSWER.

It's not just the GOP that's lost touch. A big chunk of the wingnutosphere has lost touch, not only with America, but with reality.
Posted by: LOL | Thursday, April 02, 2009 at 03:14 AM
Don't count me in on that, LOL. I never had touch with the America (Acorn, MoveOn, Moore, Ayers, Wright, etc.) you're talking about.

If i were Sarah I wouldn't go 1000 miles within DC. Stay as far from DC and the "leaders" there as possible and run as an outsider come 2012. Her supports will give her the money needed to get the nomination. I would give half my savings to get this woman elected....and if she looks like she will win I'll give it all to her.

The main speech had to be decided and Palin had not indicated she would do it. So the decsion was made for the person who could accept this far ahead. She has been very careful abut doing anything on the national GOP level due to ethics concerns .She already owes 500K in legal fees, Do we really want morw for her to suffer? I think she does need to get out on her own and travel the GOP circuit but maybe after her term ends. AK rules are strict and she helped make them that way.
