Like I have said before, and will continue to say: we are in deep trouble in this country. The ignorance of those who voted for this administration, as well as those who voted for the majority leaders and their followers in the Congress will have participated in the dismantlement of our government, our institutions and our republic. We are headed for a disaster the likes of which will either result in a breakup of the country, civil war or terrorist attack and invasion.

Well, I agree that we are in deep trouble, but see, terrorist attack and invasion is totally beyond the pale. Who is going to invade this country? Give me a break. That kind of hyperbole undercuts your argument.
At this point, I don't know that breaking up the country would be such a bad thing since we seem to be headed where Red states don't have any say in government..even to the point of being able to refuse money from the Federal government.
I would say I think that it's almost inevitable that 'white America' is going to end up baracaded in gated communities in the Midwest and South and we might eventually see 'white flight' similar to what occured in Africa over the last 30 years..as the climate became increasingly hostile more and more people packed up and left.
I'm still trying to hold on to the notion that Obama can't really be as clueless as he seems to be, afterall, he's got a lot of former Clinton hacks around him, and while the Clintonista's were a lot of things, they weren't completely, brutally, obviously lacking in any understanding of now gov. functions.

Uh...invasion by Masochistic Communists? That's the best I can come up with, anon. ;-)
On the other hand, should the situation destabilize to the point of chaos, yes I believe that that would invite terrorist attacks. Then again, I could see a situation where an exterior investor country would be compelled to step in to ‘assist’ us in managing our affairs. This actually happened – not to us but by us in the Caribbean when some countries got into financial trouble with European countries. In that case, one could call it an invasion. Certainly, the Dominican Republic considered it so, even though they understood that we were there to help them.

Yeah, but we're a huge geographically isolated country and anyone that would have the fire power to step in and have any chance still has to cross thousands of miles of ocean, unless you think we're at risk from the Canadian or Mexican army...
Now, if Mexico became a proxy state for the Chinese or something...then things might get interesting...now that I think of it, does anyone know what kind of investment the Chinese do have in Mexico?

They're pretty entrenched in Panama but I don't know what their governmental effect or power is. What I understand by invasion, as I alluded to in my second post, would be something like what we did in the early part of the 20th century. This is one case: The Dominican Republic got themselves in debt to, I think, the Germans -- maybe the French as well. When there was a threat that the Europeans would move to recoup their investments directly the US intervened by taking control of the import taxes – effectively controlling the entire economy of the country. Just imagine a case where our economic situation is so precarious and such a threat to the world’s economy, and further that our major underwriter is China. We may be forced to accept foreign control of our economy.
As far a Mexico goes, I really don’t know. It is pretty weak; witness the strength of the drug gangs for example, but I suspect they would be adverse to becoming a proxy to China. On the other hand, I’ve always had a deep seated feeling that the Canadians secretly want Maine and Washington, as well as the Upper Peninsula of Michigan so I’d keep my eye on those Mounties. ;-)

"unless you think we're at risk from the Canadian or Mexican army..."
Its a mistake to assume invasions are necessarily military.

"What am I missing here?"
LOL!
Just some idle speculation. Are you a Mounty?
"BARBER:
I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay.
I sleep all night and I work all day.
MOUNTIES:
He's a lumberjack, and he's okay.
He sleeps all night and he works all day."
etc, etc...

...or a Federale
"GOLD HAT: We are Federales . . . You know, the mounted police.
DOBBS: If you're the police, where are your badges?
GOLD HAT: [puzzled pause] "Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges! [angry] I don't have to show you any stinking badges!"
OK, the first was from a Monty Python skit and the second from Treasure of the Sierra Madre to give credit where it's due.
My original comments at the top of all this still stands though...
