Via Patterico:
It’s smart for Rush. If Obama is going to anoint him as the leader of the Republican Party, he may as well respond in kind. And hey, he articulates conservative principles very well.
But still. I hope Rush Limbaugh fails in his attempt to set himself up as the de facto head of the Republican Party. [UPDATE: More accurately, as the de facto head of the conservative movement. See UPDATE below.]
My hope is that people on the Right stop taking Rush more seriously than he takes himself when it comes to leading anything. He's a serious conservative with a very popular radio show. I doubt he's interested in leading anything beyond Arbitron. And there's nothing wrong with that. If there's a problem it's among the Right when it allows itself to get caught up in all this beyond defending the First Amendment.
The joke is supposed to be on them, not us.

If he ran in a gop primary, I'd put him at 65%, without a campaign.
If he ran, his voice would go from 15 hrs a week, to 20 minutes a week. He doesn't want people nagging him incessantly, which goes with the political seat.
It's like watching the greatest 'quarterback' (in the gop hx) call all the plays, while simultaneously being capable of playing the position better than anyone out there, never take the field.

"The joke is supposed to be on them, not us."
Agreed! I've been commenting to this effect for days on the many (many many) Rush posts. This is getting silly.
