PolitickerNY has an item up which makes the case that Obama sold out Dodd on the AIG bonus issue. The facts might fit, but I'm not ready to jump on that bandwagon. Dodd took the heat because Geithner needed cover, sure. But now that Geithner's plan is out the AIG story is less important, so it's being walked back.
PolitickerNY claims to have the "inside story" on politics and maybe it does. But when an outlet has the story some politicans want when they want, or can afford it, there's every reason to suspect that they're just being played. Split the difference and blame them all. They're the party in charge right now, so you can't be wrong.
The thought has surely crossed Chris Dodd's mind more than once these past few days: is this how Barack Obama treats his friends?
When word spread a week ago that A.I.G. had used $165 million in federal bailout money to lavish bonuses on the same executives whose incompetence had forced the insurance giant to the trough in the first place, unusually intense public anger erupted and leaders from both parties rushed to condemn the payments.
