Glenn Reynolds says Ross Douthat is a good pick for the New York Times. I admire Glenn because he knows a good deal about a great many things. But he is a libertarian. Douthat is being billed as a conservative.
If the Times wanted to bill Douthat as a Republican, or perhaps even as Right-leaning - fine. Based upon that there's really not much to argue.
But as a conservative? It's a disastrous pick as much as it is a dishonest one. With all due respect, I doubt Glenn would think it a good pick had a die-hard conservative who chose to bill himelf as a libertarian been annointed such by the New York Times.
I've posted previously about how the media mischaracterizes Glenn's politics, not because I have an issue with them, but because it's an inaccurate characterization. I suspect a great many conservatives feel the same way about Douthat in that sense right now.
But hey - IF YOU STRIKE ME DOWN, I shall only become more powerful than you can imagine.
And it is only the New York Times, minus 50% of the building it built just two years ago. I guess they had to come up with something of value, eventually.

love to see douthat's compensation relative to the other editorialists.
he's replacing kyrstal? probably at a third of the rate.
in the early 90's and anytime before, this was a primo job. not anymore. this hiring is nothing more than replacing a salary, providing a 'departmental cost cutting effort', at a paper that ceased being relevant to any non-democrat long ago. It was replace krystal, or modo/rich/friedman/krugman get a 10% salary cut. I could only imagine 2 out of the four crying in pinch's office. so did pinch. bye, bye bill.

I wouldn't care if the building collapsed upon itself like building 7 of the World Trade Centers did. I would never buy their paper nor read any of the BS in it. All the writers are nothing but a bunch of Liberal idiots and they so love their precious Obama and all of the democratic congress. They can never do wrong.
I would not even use it to wipe with. I am still trying to figure out how to use just one sheet of toliet paper that Sheryl Crow suggested we all do.
Only thing I figured is you could fold into into a 4 fold, then remove a small piece of the toliet paper large enough for your finger to go through from the point and then stick your finger through it and wipe and then use the toliet paper to wipe your finger with. LOL...just a little humor, it helps.

(NYT loudspeaker): "Ross Douthat, please report to room 37C, for your scheduled lobotomy and spine removal"

WTF--three years to graduate the third grade in that one room school house and this is what you're studying? Billy Kristol would be proud...
Say hi to Dubya, you dim bulb! You are to conservative punditry what monkeys are to Shakespeare.
