It seems this nonsense from Sullivan about a GOP war on Obama is gaining traction. I've even read some media outlets that are beginning to sniff around it. Why not? It stinks!
Evidently they must come up with something as their newly crowned "messiah" appears to have been stumbling and fumbling his way around the White House since day one.
Forget the Obama who told the GOP, "I won!" Forget the Obama who went off to a Dem retreat in Virginia and attacked the opposition party as no recently installed president has ever done so far as I can recall. And let's forget the Obama who turned his purported early hallmark issue, the stimulus, over to a highly partisan House Speaker to draft. That dummie just can't exist.
From vettings, to withdrawn offers and nominees, Obama's first days in the White House would be comical if the issues weren't of such import. But they can't abide that - a Democrat who might just end up being the butt end of a thousand jokes. Instead they want to try and re-invent some Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.
Heck, they may as well make Obama Clinton II in that regard, too. Though unfortunately, aside from some appointments, he's yet to show anything like Clinton's relative competence and frequently deft political touch while governing, as opposed to simply campaigning.
Will the media eventually just stoop to outright lying to prop up Obama? Maybe, maybe not. However, if Obama continues to stagger so amateurishly of his own accord, they might just have to if they want to see him looking as though he's doing anything but just barely standing there, ... a deer in front of whatever next set of headlights passing by as we move through his four years.

In answer to the post's question/title, my guess would be yes. Obama claimed the stimulus bill contains no earmarks; his friendly media is pretty much nodding along. Not calling Obama on his untruths is the same, to me, as uttering them oneself.
This is just the beginning. Liberals, Dems, and the Dem-friendly media have bet everything on Obama, including their intergrity and credibility. They will do whatever it takes to make it appear to pay off. If that means making the 'facts' fit the story, that's what we'll get.
We'll be hearing about the emperor's beautiful clothes every night for the next 4 years.

Will they?
Of course they will. They lied to get him elected.

Sullivan must have forgotten about Howard Dean saying, in 2004: let's not forget who the enemy is, here, the enemy is George W. Bush. They must have forgotten the leaking of sensitive information to the NY Times, Dem obstruction of Bush, the idea of "patriotic dissent."
THAT was a war. The dems were completely at war with Bush.
The GOP is not at war with Obama. They simply disagree about this stimulus and do not trust Pelosi or Reid. This sounds like common sense to me.

Will They? The question is when will they stop?
Posted by: Djion | Friday, February 13, 2009 at 08:20 AM
I agree, the media is too vested in Obama to seriously question him, let alone blame him for the inevitable failures that are coming down the pike. It will be one, pardon the term, white wash, after another...
Though it beats me how the GOP which has no power in the House and almost no power in the Senate can be any kind of force to be reckoned with...I would say the public will see through this, but given what the media accomplished with Sarah Palin, I tend to think if they keep it up long enough and hysterical enough that it might stick.
Posted by: Anon | Friday, February 13, 2009 at 08:24 AM
"Will The Media Stoop To Lying To Protect Obama?"
Yes. They help him cheat and steal, too. And, in the end, they will help him bury the bodies.
"They simply disagree about this stimulus and do not trust Pelosi or Reid. This sounds like common sense to me."
Totalitarians do not tolerate opposition-they crush it and kill it. Obama is our first totalitarian President.

So now disagreement is being "at war" with the president? I thought dissent was the highest form of patriotism!
Posted by: Alex | Friday, February 13, 2009 at 08:34 AM
Yes, the news would rather report on his charismatic, so intelligent smile... rather then the tantrums and petulant scowls he throws like a two year old. The GOP isn't perfect, but at least it isn't Obama.
As a school teacher of 17 years, I do sit and actually listen to the things Mr. Obama says (please note I say Mr.) His programs "seem" to help education at a first glance.
However, I don't want to sacrifice the student's life-long freedom of "choice and liberty" for me just to have a better time in the classroom for a few years. Social programs only work if they are short and sweet, and are targeted for the short term rather then the long term. To help the future - the news media needs to work toward maintaining a vigilant integrity- rather then the reverse as they are doing now.
Posted by: Sylena | Friday, February 13, 2009 at 08:41 AM
"Liberals, Dems, and the Dem-friendly media have bet everything on Obama, including their intergrity and credibility."
By that measure, they can't lose. The were bankrupt of integrity and credibility years ago.
Posted by: daveg | Friday, February 13, 2009 at 08:56 AM
The corporate media will lie about anything to get ads sold and increase readership/viewership. That is the only way a bumbling hypocrite like Rush Limbaugh could be the top dog on the airwaves. The biggest problem with the stimulus is that it doesn't give enough money to mass transit/high speed rails and other environmental concerns to help us change the economy to one that can drive the future.
The right has no moral ground to talk about integrity after the last 8 years. They have none. All that is left is red herrings and other diversions to the polluted theories that got us where we are today. Payback will be a bitch.

Sad but this is supporting the fact that affirmative action really doesnt work. Most people voted for this guy out of white guilt and/or hate for Bush...they thought they were getting "Will Smith" instead we got Elmer Fudd...
Just this morning on MSNBC, David Gregory of Meet the Press...was blaming Republicans for many of the woes of whats going on in King Barrys court. When he was asked how the media would have reacted if Karl Rove and Dick Cheney would have taken over the census...he was dumbfounded and looked like he was about to pass out...because he knows how partisan this move is...

I agree with the sentiments - they lied to tear Bush down, they lied to tear McCain & Palin down, they lied to get him elected - why would they stop now?
Who reads Andrew Sullivan anymore? He ceased to be relevant years ago, and ceased to be lucid before that. However, out of sentimentality I decided to click over - he rails about some war being declared (while describing the antics of the left for the last eight years with no sense of irony) and his supporting link to that is - the fact that Judd Gregg called his governor two hours BEFORE he announced his withdrawal as Commerce Secretary nominee as proof of this heinous war. Huh? Like I said, he ceased to be lucid some time ago....

Is it really a lie if you actually believe what you say? The MSM are so delusional about Obama they will see the evil Republicans behind every lamp post. The alternative is just to much for them to take: That their beloved is weak and ineffectual. Never underestimate the power of self-deception nor the great lengths to which people will go to protect their fragile "reality."
The Republicans seem to be completely disorganized right now. No organized resistance has developed but it would appear that one will come out soon. Better now to just create opportunities for Obama to keep shooting himself in the foot.

War? Why Republicans are giving Mr. Obama the same courtesy, thoughtful consideration, and good faith dealing that Democrats gave "selected not elected" Chimpy McHalliburton and Darth Vader.
President With Training Wheels On Obama and his creepy acolytes are crying like a kid with a skinned knee because "Change We Can Believe In" was supposed to mean routing Republicans into silent acquiescence. Republicans were supposed to lick their wounds and bend over or face the wrath of Kos. It hasn't worked out that way and being mugged by reality is causing the feelings crowd to pout and whine. Behold, a God who bleeds.

If you include truths not told as a form of lying they are already there.
Look at the Gregg fiasco, already they are saying he bowed out due to differences over the stimulus and 'other (conveniently unspecified) issues.'
The word has come down from Obamaland - ixnay on the encuscay.
They don't want that issue getting any play or being built up in the public mind.

gregg was brought in to be the ambassador for the wh with the senate gop...
after the gop was closed out of the stimulus negotiations, his relevance was rendered moot, in the same week his job at commerce was taken away from him.
I'd imgine the press tut-tutting over an ambassador that resigned because bush refused to negotiate with a country, immediately before bombing it.

Sullivan has become a captive to his mancrush on Obama. If the GOP were going to the mat over a porky $20 billion highway bill or some Court of Appeals judge, I could see the charge of "war" sticking. But Obama is trying to ram through multi-trillion-dollar bills that will undo decades of legslation and forever change how basic things like health care are done in America. That's something worth fighting over.

Just look at the history of every Leftist takeover of countries in the past. This is NOT a ful-fledged leftist takover, but the same processes are at work on a smaller scale.
They take power on a moral crusade to do the impossible. When things inevitably start going badly, they (being moralists rather than pragmatists) look around for the source of evil -- which by definition can not be them or some morally neutral process. It must a be a group of people, and today it is the Republicans.
As things get worse and worse, there are only two courses of action available to moralists pursuing the impossible:
(A) Mount a propaganda campaign claiming that everything is getting better and better,
(B) Mount increasingly aggressive attacks on the designated evil groups wrecking their plans.
Of course, Stalin amply demonstrated both at the same time.

Some excellent posts, however, this senior citizen has heard it all before! Albeit, our founding father's must be turning over in their graves as we were never setup to have a "two" party system!
One need only watch "The Fountainhead" to see how the alter ego's work within the press (and for that fact, the media), especially in this day of instant communication capability.
To blame any one president's term on our latest financial crisis is ludicrous! Go back and start with Truman (and McArthur) to watch the transformation of our ability as a nation to "unite as one" and overcome the agression the world faced in the early 1900's up until the great world war. All the other engagements we have been involved in were for either stategic purposes or fossil fuel. After all, Bush Sr. had the opportunity to remove Hussein during Desert Storm, however, was politically handcuffed by the liberals when he had the international support he needed!
The only way we can "right the ship" is to bring back the majority of manufacturing to the good old USA and let all these countries we support fend for themselves! Can you imagine if China lost "80%" of their exports to the USA?
With that said, I am sick and tired of hearing about this historical election and the first "black" president. He is indeed a "Mullato", so call it like it is! Albeit, his wife is black, so sorry!
Remember, it only takes "one" good sheep dog to "herd" a large group of sheep. Is that not the media and press?
GOD Bless America

It takes a lot to get a lapdog to turn on its master. One pat from Obama on their shaggy little heads and they wag their tails and roll over. The media in this country are a wing of the liberal intellectual elite and they cannot criticize the Democratic Party wing of that same elite. They are as dedicated as the tax cheats, lobbyists and hard core socialists that make up the Obama administration.
Honest Democrat is a contradiction in terms. Honest "journalist" is also.

The bugaboo of Leftism is "backlash". In their heart of hearts they secretly believe that but for their courageous actions, moralizing and social control the country would be a Hobbesean distopia. Apres nous, le deluge.
This is why they get they get their panties in a knot. The very idea that mouthbreathing knuckledraggers less enlightened than themselves would not be won over instantly by their goodness and good intentions and be a team player must mean that they are stupid and evil. You know what stupid and evil people do, they support lynching and violence. They truly believe thay are the bulwark stopping the collapse of the Republic into totalitarianism.
To be a liberal is to have a romantic and heroic self image that cannot be punctured by the intrusion of real world practicalities, despite the conceit of being in the "realty based community".
Get used to four years of crybaby rants from these delicate flowers. Any opposition to their grandiose plans is in their minds the equivalent to denying heaven (which only redneck snakehandlers believe in) to a sinner (of which, relatively speaking, there are none, except those that don't drink their kool-aid).

The GOP at war with Obama? If only. I wish we did have a strong Reaganite GOP to represent those of us who believe in liberty. But for the most part what I see is weak me-too-ers and accomodationists rolling over for Sully's (in his dreams) boyfriend.

ABC, NBC, CBS, AP, CNN, and the rest of the government-run media are politically tied to the Won. They created Him, and if He crashes and burns so do they.
What Republicans need to do is stop giving the government-run media credibility. Stop going on their "news" shows, stop being interviewed by their political operatives (called "journalists" by the sheeple), stop giving them anything period. Instead, they should do what they failed to do long ago - develop their own avenues of communications.
One of the worst decisions the McCain campaign made during the last election (and the list was very long and very distinguished) was sending Sarah Palin to be the target of hatchet jobs by CBS and ABC while keeping her away from more accurate and honest media outlets such as conservative talk radio. It was like hiring Screamin' Howard Dean to run the RNC. Of course, no one ever accused McCain of being the sharpest knife in the drawer...

Wow, the republican party runs this country into the ground spending trillions of dollars a month on a war that we should have never been involved in and allows fat cats on wall street to lose all of the money we are pumping back into the economy through this stimulus plan and will have to pay as tax dollars and all of a sudden the GOP becomes the smart frugile spenders that this country needs, give me a break. Give me a break, it is disgusting that as soon as the worst president this country has seen since Hoover leaves the office all of a sudden the GOP doesn't want to spend. This plan of Obamas is a FDR style plan and whether it will work or not is not debatable by the republicans who put us in this mess in the first place. It creates jobs, which is exactly what is needed at the moment as unemployment is realistically around 14%. You cannot criticize Obama and his adminsitration on their credibility when the Bush administration was built on lies and their spending of trillions upon trillions of dollars was based on a lie. The entire adminsitration was built on lies so they could become richer. Funny how once Bush is gone republicans become aware of frugality. Time for Republicnas to shut up and let someone else fix the mess they made. And to the person who posted Lincoln was a republican, your right he was, but the republican party the Lincoln was a member of went on to become what is now the democratic party, so don't bring up history unless you know the entirity of what you are saying, now whose the liar? Now who is bending truths to make their point? Such a bunch of scared, uninformed hypocrites.

Journalism as practiced by the big papers and the MSM: Making up stuff (distortion, exaggeration, omission, repetition) to support the whiner/loserocracy "agenda."
As in, they never asked why he wouldn't release Occidental, Columbia and Harvard or Yale (did ya' need another black for the diversity stats?) transcrtipts. Or, why he won't show his Kenyan birth certificate. No one ever asked what he did to get $104,000 from FNMA. Talk about truth squads!

They have forgotten their American history. When corruption in Massachusetts under the Articles of Confederation became intolerable Shays' Rebellion began in 1786 which was the straw that broke the camels back on the Articles for Jefferson and the founding fathers.
While today few on the other side believe there are real consequences for attacking our Jacksonian Scotts-Irish beliefs, keep it up.
