Alright, the Palin stuff was, to be polite, strange. Still, she was and is somewhat the GOP's hot God loving babe. But we're getting well into Black Helicopter airspace here over Gregg. According to Sullivan, he was "Pwned" by the GOP.
Don't forget, Gregg has also announced he isn't running in 2010. There are no more political consequences for him one way or the other.
Gregg Was Pwned
It gets clearer. When Judd Gregg approached the Obama administration to see if he could be a part of it, he was assuming that his own party wasn't going to adopt a policy of total warfare against the newly elected president in a time of enormous economic peril. Between that moment and the current all-out ideological assault on Obama, his position became untenable. His recusal on the stimulus package provoked fury at home (check out the comments here) and dyspepsia among the GOP who are intent on responding to an open hand with a clenched fist.
I have to say even I am a little taken aback by the force of the Republican assault. Even in a downturn as swift and alarming as this one, even after an election that clearly favored one approach over another, even after the most conciliatory efforts by an incoming president in memory, these people have gone to war against the president. The president should stay cool. The rest of us should realize what motivates the GOP: the opportunism of selective ideology.

when the issue is discussed , the failure to mention that the commerce secretary was going to be stripped of census control should be addressed first.
sullivan can engage in all the spin he wants, but the insult that was made was that belief that Judd Gregg should not be in charge of census, expressed AFTER he was given the post. it is fine if it is their belief to run the census thru the wh, but the failure to address it prior to hiring was completely obama's...excuse me...the mistake was made by the 'actual' people who are running the govt.

Hmm, Milky Loads loses his mind yet again. I really think we need to demand that The Atlantic release his medical records, particularly those involving any mental health treatments.
Seriously, reading Excitable Andy is like going to the DU: you know it is just going to be bat sh*t crazy. I mean, I love the one that The Last True Conservative has up about The GOP Declaring War On Obama. I've got Friday thru Sunday off. I wonder if I can get the drugs he is on?

the most conciliatory efforts by an incoming president in memory..
Here's the deal about Sullivan. Either he has the long term memory of a black rubber dildo or he's an outright liar.
You choose.

Andrew lost any credibility that he might have had once his obsession with Trig Palin and Sarah Palin moved over into serioulsy delusional territory. Why The Atlantic hasn't pulled his idiotic blog I will never know.

Yeah, but where else can you enjoy classic mystery writing with such good grammar for free? As you read his stuff, one just imagines some furtive little creature sitting there in the dark tapping away at the keyboard - eyes darting all about. He's the gay equivalent of Bogart ... in the Caine Mutiny. Probably right down to juggling his own set of little balls as he "testifies" against the GOP.

Anyone want to chime in on why the President even entertained Senator Gregg as the Commerce Secretary? And, why he was expected to sail through the certification?
Answer: Gregg was to be the Democrat's political cover on this gravy train legislation. They could always point to Gregg as the Republican running the Commerce Department at the time it was determined that the Stimulus didn't work. Any action taken by Gregg would have been twisted by the media as the wrong move...and ruining Obama's wonderful plan. That's why the White House presser was leaning a bit towards animosity.
The question you have to ask yourself...is...was Obama set up by Gregg (and whomever)...The Richardson dirt popping up so readily when it did was convenient...Gregg offering his services...even more so.

Andy can be such a BITCH sometimes!

Someone on FOX said that without the census all Gregg would have to do all day would be to feed the fishes in the Commerce Building.
Obama was plotting against Gregg and the GOP, IMO.

Speaking of mental health records, we might exercise patience while the ink dries on Obama's medical records, his college records, his birth certificate. Whatever names they are listed under, that sort of thing, hmmm?

A mind is a terrible thing to lose.

Really, you need to stop reading Sullivan - I did years ago after his denial of reality coupled with his blatant distortion of facts became just too outrageous to read. Nobody is really interested in what he has to say. You and Patterico, need to just...stop reading him. No twelve-step plan needed.
