Via Instapundit - this Rasmussen headline strikes me as incredibly unfair to Obama.
Following Congressional passage of the economic stimulus bill, consumer confidence has fallen to another record low.
People don't even know what's in the damned thing. What they do know is that instead of offering up inspiration, Obama has been spouting the most pessimistic rhetoric on the economy they've ever heard.
I may not agree with Obama on policy, but I am not going to deprive him of the credit he deserves.

Credit for what? Getting a bill passed that does the exact opposite of what's needed? The solution to the current problems in the economy is to extend jobless benefits for those who are out of work and give tax breaks to those who create sustainable jobs in the private sector.
The public sector jobs created by the stumulus package are temporary and come at too great a cost. The stimulus package will erode confidence in the economy because the public understands that the jobs will disappear once the stimulus money is spent but the bill for the money borrowed to pay for the stimulus will take a generation to pay.

"Credit for what?"
Um, running down consumer confidence with his rhetoric, mebbe?

It's not just his rhetoric that's destroying confidence it's the fact that people understand they are spending unheard amounts of money for temporary government jobs.

What exactly did he do? From what I saw it was all done in the Congress and not the White House. It surely was not that dismal press conference he held in Indiana. That was beyond pathetic.

"but I am not going to deprive him of the credit he deserves"
I wish the chinese would cut him off from the credit he is seeking.
I think the urban dictionary has a phrase which describes what is transpiring-
rhymes with "trigger twitch"--
"Spending your money unwisely on things you dont need that wont last you that long"

It's change! It's progressive!
It's costing us $10,000 a piece to rescue this economy. How come? My house is paid for. I paid my taxes. How come all these people who can't pay the mortgages they agreed to are getting bailed out?
I think Obama is selling snake oil, those folks showing up at his meetings are shills, and we're the suckers.

Wonder what ever happened to US savings Bonds that they use to advertise all the time.
Bet they will start pushing them again. Will anyone buy them to help Obama ?
I too, hope the whole damn world cuts him off and he falls flat on his frigging face.
He is a crook in sheeps clothing.

Credit for looting the country? And on credit? How does this "stimulus" help anyone beyond democrat interest groups?

I do think Obama deserves even just the slightest hint of credit. I'd rather the president make a mistake than doing NO action at all like what some other politicians have been doing regarding (or not) the economic problem.

Dan:
Credit? Well then okay, let's put this way: After demagoguing the issue for weeks Obama sees consumer confidence fall to its lowest level..

Uh, Dan? What's the opposite of confidence? I'd think being uncertain of what's in the damn bill would be the perfect thing to reduce confidence.

Good one, Dan! :-) All the rest of you folks, I think you might need to update the firmware in your sarcasm detectors. ;-)
