It's priceless for a right-side blogger to read lib blogger Chris Bower's take on where Obama is at - he doesn't know. But ultimately it shows the Left is feeling the same uneasiness with Obama that the Right is feeling just now.
The mantra of "change from the bottom up" was something that Obama regularly mentioned in his campaign speeches. It is difficult to connect that hopeful vision to Susan Collins and Ben Nelson re-writing the stimulus package against the wishes of the population at large. This is especially the case given that Obama's grassroots network is being asked to politely sit on their hands and ask Tim Kaine a few questions about the bill, rather than to take meaningful action.
Most telling about Bowers and what cults of personality produce, he's willing to advocate for whatever Obama wants ... if he only knew. Where the heck is the principle in that? Evidently Bowers has no firm enough belief to act on anything unless Obama tells him what to do.
And like a good liberal, Bowers wraps himself in a myth. Um, Chris - read the polls. You 37 percenters aren't calling the shots - to paraphrase the liberals who took their shots when Bush's polls were in the tank.

there's a poll over at kos on the stimulus bill...

the results are so far from the rassmussen poll, it's scary. Funny, too, like their own approval rating for the messiah that they keep at the top of the page.

Pelosi wrote the bill in the first place. Well, it wasn't written so much as copied and pasted from 30 years of pork that was rejected as too egregious at the time. If you don't have Ben Nelson on board then you don't really have a bill, do you?

Nate Silver has a more balanced take:

One poll does not unpopular make.

Frank,
Nate Silver links a Gallup poll from Jan 28 and Democracy Corps from Jan 30. You and Nate can continue deluding yourselves all you want. The government stimulus is a disaster and every day that passes gives average citizens the opportunity to learn more about all the political payoffs in this boondoggle. Why else would Republican cover be necessary? If it's popular then just pass the POS on a party line vote and be done with it. Really, what's the hold up?

Blind followership is a most unattractive quality. Conservatives were far more disenchanted with W than liberals are likely to be with Obama.

"One poll does not unpopular make."
rassmussen has pegged, with near absolute accuracy, every election since 2000. No one has better or more consistent polls.

bingo. please, pretty please, jam this crap sandwich in america's mouth and tell us it will be good for us. no need to stop there, rubberstamp away on tarp II and the budget, americans will understand running up three trillion dollars in deficits. Think of the advantages, 3 trillion means that you dump a billion on botux coupons for shar peis, and you'll have the argument that the gop is silly to single it out, as it is only .03% of the bill.
I hope 538 provides talking points to provide an argument during a period of 9-10% unemployment that a billion dollars is nothing. The unemployed will surely be understanding and very patient.
Think of the debt that the dems run up for 09 as water in a toilet tank. when it flushes, there won't even be a streak of a democrat left in the bowl.

Crazy.
And to think, when our 19 yr old son proposes the shit Obama is/has passed, we call him a lil commie.
Does anyone know when the free lunch program for working Americans will begin?
