Obama ran for the memory hole but didn't quite make it, apparently. If you think blogs and the practices they've mostly championed aren't catching on - consider this. The American Small Business League not only calls out Obama on a break with his campaign rhetoric, they discover the memory hole and accuse Obama of disappearing his statements into it. I love it!
President Obama seemed to agree it was time to stop the fraud and abuse in federal small business contracting programs when, in February of 2008, he released the statement, "Small businesses are the backbone of our nation's economy and we must protect this great resource. It is time to end the diversion of federal small business contracts to corporate giants."
Since making that statement almost a year ago, President Obama has consistently refused to make good on his campaign promise, and support legislation to stop Fortune 500 firms from hijacking federal contracts designated for America's nearly 27 million small businesses.
Not only has President Obama refused to propose even a single policy to address the problem, but he actually changed his Web site to remove the appearance that he had ever made the statement, "It is time to end the diversion of federal small business contracts to corporate giants."

I'll make a bet that it's not in the Wayback machine.

It seems to me that we are finally starting to see politics be redefined for the 21st century. No longer can politicians run their mouth trying to influence a group here but contradict themselves on another block to another group. Pandering has finally started to become a visible rash on the body politic and it will lead to more reasoned thought about what, exactly, makes sense in a republic founded on individual freedom. The power to dispense tax monies to all these groups is finally starting to be visible. Forcing government to issue IRS 1099's for every dollop of dollars they apply to the pander when it does not go to taxing entities will finally allow us to see how they are buying their support and stealing from the rest of us.

I believe that is what Jack Ryan was trying to do to Obama before the Tribune managed to get Ryan's divorce records unsealed and smeared all over the press to get Obama elected state senator. The Ryan campaign would send a video camera to any Obama event so that they could compare how Obama's promises changed from one group to the next. So maybe if the press hadn't been campaigning for Obama back then we wouldn't be talking about the same Obama actions today. mpw

Sen.Mark
When Rudy Guiliani required every welfare recipient in New York City to be fingerprinted the welfare rolls dropped dramatically.

Blogs and websites are what we use now, but before this was supposed to be done by a group called "journalists" through "newspapers" and they had a repository of reports done by other journalists to compare one statement against another. And they would document inconsistencies for all to see. But then I'm 60 years old and that was a long time ago, about the time Clinton was first elected. And I remember a time when you actually had to have a way to pay back money you borrowed or you would not get a loan. And I remember a time when only criminals didn't pay taxes, and the IRS and the FBI would hunt them down and put them in jail. Pretty soon only a few of us will remember that the US was once the most free country in the world, the most prosperous and the most powerful. Pretty soon those memories will be flushed down the memory hole. I'll miss those memories.

Dave-
The criminals still don't pay their taxes, it's just that a lot of them are now in Congress and Obama's cabinet where they can't be prosecuted.

Obama seems to be doing this across the board. Flooding the zone? That is what it looks like to me. Until the MSM get onto these things it won't matter.

I think the Republicans need to build their own Internet archive, to save all versions of everything said by Obama.
It wouldn't need a lot of investment -- just a lot of disk space, some bandwidth, and some software that regularly queries Google and other search engines.
Having a complete reference to Obama's memory hole usage will be very useful in the future.

Anyone that is surprised that Obama is lying has not been paying attention. Like Bill Clinton, the way to tell if he's telling a lie is to see if his lips are moving. Honest Democrat is a contradiction in terms.

Yes. It's been memory holed to another part of the website:
http://www.barackobama.com/2008/02/26/the_american_small_business_le.php
"I am proud to have the support of the American Small Business League and their grassroots efforts to help protect American small business. Helping American small business is part of our movement for change and the end of politics as usual," Sen. Obama said. "98 percent of all American companies have fewer than 100 employees. Over half of all Americans work for a small business. Small businesses are the backbone of our nation's economy and we must protect this great resource. It is time to end the diversion of federal small business contracts to corporate giants."
