"It was very hurtful." Well, at least he's got that extra $25. It is pretty cruel. But then these DJ's usually are. Hey, maybe we need a kindness doctrine, too?

KNIX contacted Osegueda, 19, Wednesday morning and told him to hold for a special guest.

When the station’s announcers returned they told Osegueda that President Obama was on the line wanting to talk to him. Osegueda said he was convinced it was him.

“He said he was getting more phone calls and publicity about me than his stimulus package,” Osegueda said.

The only problem was the man on the other line was not Obama. It was one of KNIX’s morning show DJs impersonating the president.

“One of our guys is a very talented mimic,” said Ray Massie, the program director for KNIX’s morning show Ben and Matt. “You should hear him do George Bush.”

The White House also denied Obama himself made such a call.

For hours Osegueda believed he had again spoken to the president and was as he put it “overwhelmed.”

When The News-Press notified him that it was a gag, he said: “That’s pretty messed up,” Osegueda said. “It sounded exactly like him. He was saying we should hang out some time. He said he was going to bring his wife and kids to meet me.”

Osegueda said he called the station to voice his displeasure with the prank, but said he was unable to reach anyone.

Massie said the radio bit was done all in fun and that they didn’t intend to keep him in the dark about it.

“I’m sure the (DJs) just forgot to tell him,” Massie said. “We do pranks but this wasn’t intended to be malicious.”

Massie said the bit has yet to air but said he believes the show will run
Thursday.

“I don’t have a clue why they’d do something like that,” Osegueda said. “It sounded exactly like (Obama). It was very hurtful.”
