Britons flee French island of Guadeloupe as rioters turn on white families
Britons are among thousands of tourists fleeing Guadeloupe after full scale urban warfare erupted on the French Caribbean island. Trouble broke out on the island earlier last month after protesters began rioting over high prices and low wages.
It's a blip in more ways than one, but things are apparently serious in the French department of Guadalupe. It's on the Euro - wiki here. Given current economic troubles, I'm thinking there are many "holiday" spots that will see some very bad times. So is the news a blip, or a sign of things to come? h/t Lala on another thread.
Link: Pointe-a-Pitre, Feb. 19 - The rioting has got worse which arose from the general strike against high living costs and the economic crisis, called a month ago on the Caribbean Island of Guadalupe, a French overseas region considered a sort of paradise for seaside holidays. After yesterday's street clashes, in which at least one union member lost his life and several others were injured, gunshots rang out over the night against police and gendarme who had arrived from the motherland to restore order.

Must be a sign of the times....Rather than take personal responsibility for their situation...they take it out on the ones who provide jobs and help feed their families...sounds alot like whats going on in DC....

any word yet if the 'protestors' are shouting "Obama" or "Change"?
this is just a precursor of what France is going to face, within a year.

"rioters turn on white families."
I guarantee you that the same damn thing will soon be happening right here in the United States. Any major city in the US is liable to see the same damn thing. Better arm yourself now. Not later. And have a plan to get the hell out once the rioting starts. Don't let yourself get caught, and think you can rely on the police to protect you. They can't and won't protect you, and you will be on your own.

When we lived in Nice, in the 90s, we got lost one day and ended up in the slum on the outskirts of the city. It looked like the South Bronx, burned out cards, garbage, threatening looking residents. Every apartment had a satellite receiver though. Later on we got to know some French policemen (who patrol in threes, btw) who told us that the police never go into that area, it's too dangerous. Like the Casbah, I guess.

Oops, I see a mistake - burned out cars, not burned out cards.

"I guarantee you that the same damn thing will soon be happening right here in the United States."
I don't see it.
Those who remember the the sixties aren't eager to go back, and the generation that never exprienced, has been raised to be far more colorblind.
Are we perfect? 'better than any other country' will have to do as the answer, perpetually.
I agree with the snetiment fo not relying on the police to protect your domicile-if a cop was having his house invaded, would he call the police?
As for the dems?
There were two hands to play on the crisis...
sit still, check every bet, and wait until the hand is called in about a year-
let the crisis serve as period that strengthens a civil bond between 'socio-economic' classes(in the sixties, substitute 'race'.
the dems decided to go all in.
instead of checking, they are are going to push every chip they have into the pot, increasing the anxiety of the country. The overture to provide 'economic reparations' in a period of economic crisis is moving ia moving our country backwards, but I still think we have come to far, to fall that low.

If I were the French, I'd congratulate Guadalupe on its newly minted independence and make arrangements to get all French nationals out of there ASAP.

I think they are all French citizens on Guadeloupe. I say that because it is a "Department" and they are on the euro.

mark, you need to wise up, friend. I wish nothing like that could happen here, but I know better, and so should you. The ACORN mob is out stirring the pot as we speak. And when the economy gets worse, which it will, these folks right here in the USA have basically the same belief system as those on Guadalupe. And its, "whitey done me wrong, and I want my revenge".
And if I'm wrong, which I hope I am, it never hurts to be prudent, now does it?

Maybe I'm an optimist, but I think we can still negotiate. Those in Guadalupe are rioting because they want something specific: 200 more euros for low-paid workers (according to newsy.com). While I don't personally believe in government intervention, if it's money vs. lives, I think the decision is obvious.

"whitey done me wrong, and I want my revenge" Those that want that revenge will be finding the taking rough. Everybody I know has best friends named Smith & Wesson and will be giving introductions. One of the Ten Commandments is paraphrased "Do not covet your neighbors possessions, go get your own friggin job and buy it yourself" I am sick of the race & class warfare that the Dhimmicratics are pushing.

"mark, you need to wise up, friend. I wish nothing like that could happen here, but I know better, and so should you."
truth be told, I'm on the edge of the burbs/not exactly on the "watchtower on the walls of world freedom".
The bright side is that I have 70 yrds visibility on all sides, and can place at least 2/5 of my shots at 100yrds, open sights on my marlin.
