This via The Arkansas News. Was Iron-ic woman and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi put on notice that EFCA (Card Check) was "no longer a free vote" and the Blue Dogs weren't willing to go along for the ride? It makes sense. Why take your lumps only to have the bill die in the Senate so Pelosi can appease her base? And why has it come out? There's definitely some muscle-flexing going on lately by the Blue Dogs as Obama's fiscal responsibility summit draws near. And he's said to be more with them, than the more Liberal Speaker on that.
Still, she can't just cave on it. Now, maybe she can't win on Card Check, either. She won't if they don't go along, which would mean hurting themselves very badly at home. Will Card Check be her undoing opening the door for Hoyer, who may already be making his own move, too? Popcorn time. Grab a seat!
The official then told the group that Berry recounted to him a recent discussion the Blue Dogs had with House Democratic leadership. According to Berry, the Blue Dogs told House leadership that card check wasn’t a free vote for them anymore and that their constituents were giving them a lot of grief over the issue.
The Blue Dogs strongly urged House leadership not to bring this bill back up on the House floor until the Senate had passed something first, because they look like idiots for continuing to pass it and then it dying in the Senate.
The official claimed that Berry had ensured him that this time around, the business community had stepped up its game and he was hearing from a lot of people in his district about how bad this bill really was.
