The editors at NRO are calling for Geithner to go given that his tax evasion was the worst of the lot and he now gets the privilege of overseeing the IRS. h/t Instapundit
Yes, it is rather pathetic that a tax cheat who obviously never intended to pay his bill is running the IRS. No argument there.
But there is supposed to be a mechanism in place to make such an argument during confirmation when it is supposed to be made. That NRO could pen such an editorial and not bring themselves to mention the spineless Republicans who rolled on such a travesty at least suggests they are carrying the Republican's water just as much as the feckless Republicans carried Obama's in the person of Geithner.
Geithner's appointment was an Obama issue. His confirmation makes it a valid issue to judge the performance of the Republican minority in the Senate. Clearly they were as negligent with their responsibilities as was Geithner with his taxes. At least Geithner had the ability to pay tax bills long overdue.
It remains unclear how the Republicans intend to make up the difference between what they owe and what they gave the voters that support them in the case of Geithner at Treasury. Perhaps they never will.

a collective 'oops' from the 10 gop senators who just had to have him...
Corker (R-TN)
Cornyn (R-TX)
Crapo (R-ID)
Ensign (R-NV)
Graham (R-SC)
Gregg (R-NH)
Hatch (R-UT)
Shelby (R-AL)
Snowe (R-ME)
Voinovich (R-OH)
the irony of feingold, harkin, byrd, and sanders voting against is not lost.
The only shockers for me were Hatch, Cornyn, and Shelby.

Blame these Republicans AND Obama.

Am I the only one in America who thinks having a crooked tax cheat as Obama's hand picked Treasury Sec HELPS the Republicans (or at least Republicans of the tax-cutting persuasion)?
Geithner's the posterboy for rank hypocrisy on the other side of the aisle and emblematic of the now-irrefutable truth that Obama's whole trite schtick about "Change" was a big fat joke on his fawning legions of maudlinly idealistic O-bots.
As long as he's there, Cantor & DeMint can keep saying "No wonder the Democrats are always so eager to raise everyone's taxes - they don't actually ever see fit to pay their fair share themselves" & the scandal is engraved into stone.
And I can keep rubbing my idiotic O-voting relatives' noses into the embarrassing fact that they were totally bamboozled by a stammering amateur of a fraud - a cynical sleazemeister as crooked & dishonest as they'll ever see again in politics.
