He's had the ban on smoking, the war on transfats, restaurants have to post caloric counts, etc - now he's declared war on salt. The guy sounds more like someone's mother, than a mayor. He wants food manufacturers to reduce salt content by 50% within ten years.
Singer Jimmy Buffett will never find his "lost shaker of salt" in New York City or any other place in the country if Mayor Michael Bloomberg has his way. The mayor is waging a war on salt and he wants food manufacturers and restaurants to join his army … or else.

Just another taste of the "There ought to be a law" mentality of the left!

The trans fat issue is interesting to me.
I have no doubt is is shit food. I have a little doubt whether is is food at all.
The stuff can sit in your pantry for years and not change one bit. And try setting some out on your sidewalk in the summer. The bugs and animals don't touch it.
I think I favor the trans fat ban. I don't allow it in my house.

Oy, what else can be said.
Remember 10 years ago when conservatives said that liberals would try to ban fatty foods once they turned smokers into criminals. Well, that day has come and gone.
Salt? That is so beyond the pale, I don't even know what to say and I usually like Bloomberg when he isn't on an anti gun rant.
The next step is to simply force restaurants to serve whatever the government deems to be "healthy" food, and either unhealthy food will be outlawed or it will be taxed to death. It's obvious.

Give it three to five years, there won't be but a handful of overpriced restaurants for the rich and famous.
The majority of the population will be left to scrounging trash or (le gasp!) growing their own foods as the economy seizes up and dies a rightful death after half a century of abuse and misuse and over-regulation.
That, or the Red Chinese will dictate the terms of surrender to us - in return for a sort of a Red-Chinese version of the Marshall Plan which will end what little sovereignty we have left.
World Government nanny-statism - the dream of leftists everywhere - will be a matter of fact.

What's wrong with the ban on smoking?

A woman died in an avalanche in Utah in December. Why will the government not protect people from this? Can't we have a ban on alpine skiing and mountain climbing? Isn't it the sensible thing to do? And so many people were injured or died in automobile accidents last year--don't they recognize the healthcare costs of this? When, oh when, will we finally reduce the speed limit to 20 mph?
