You plan for the future by not repeating the mistakes of the past. Should Obama be lucky enough to see a revived economy during his term, both energy demand and prices will climb dramatically. Yet, because it is going to take some time to bring more alternative energy options on line in a serious way, we will still be dependent upon oil and gas.
Less than a year ago this was a major issue and the majority of Americans Obama now presumes to lead wanted domestic production increased where possible while we continued to develop new alternatives. Is he listening to the people, or the usual special interest groups?
Change!
WASHINGTON, Jan 21 (Reuters)- U.S. President Barack Obama may order a hold on a proposal issued in the final days of the Bush administration to expand offshore drilling in previously banned areas, an Interior Department official told Reuters on Wednesday.
Shortly after being sworn in on Tuesday, Obama ordered all federal agencies and departments to halt pending regulations until they can be reviewed by incoming staff.
An Interior official said the department is waiting for clarification from the White House on whether a proposed draft of a five-year plan to lease areas in the Atlantic and Pacific waters for oil and natural gas drilling can go forward.

So why did I read today that two coal plants in W. Virginia are shutting down?

Drill here, drill now. I don't see it in my lifetime.
I'd really like to know why oil prices are still falling, but gas prices in my area are going up? Prices, after falling to an average of 1.399 a gallon all of a sudden are at 1.659.

Dmeocrats don't want us to drill our own energy. Their ideology is supposed to trump our needs. Drilling, pumping, transporting, refining, and selling our own oil would create hundreds of thousands of good jobs. It would bring money into the U.S. and stop BILLIONS from leaving.
Libs don't care. Their FAKE Global warming is more important to them.

Fake global warming is where the money is. There's reports of selling carbon credits for billions in Europe.

give the global warming debate another two years...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/iainmartin/4295219/Gordon-Brown-brings-Britain-to-the-edge-of-bankruptcy.html
the premise behind global warming was to skim money off the top of wealthy countries, but considering the scope of the current financial crisis, there isn't going to be anything to skim for a long time. I can't see popular support for a 'luxury tax' on carbon occuring outside the US, for at least another 5 years. I also fail to see many European countries investing in energy production that will cost ten times as much as fossil fuels.

The new Pres is starting to please his wackier supporters. This is not good for the country.

Also remember this, from Pajamas Media:
"The president and first lady, for the first time in those ensuing 56 years, did not make an appearance at the “Salute to Heroes” Inaugural Ball. In attendance at the gala were 48 of the 99 living recipients of our nation’s highest honor. Of the 99 who are still with us, not even half are in any condition or possess the wherewithal to travel to such an event. And by the next inauguration, likely half of those won’t be with us.
Making this evening even more special was the fact that it is the 50th anniversary of the Medal of Honor Society, which has been working hard to reach out to people to educate them about its members."

Jim Cramer is imploding on CNBC. He is saying that he met with "his two grand an hour attorneys" and they told him if he were the nominee he would "be going down" and it wouldn't just be the nomination. He would be having the "shawshank non redemption." He essentially said he is giving up because "he (i guess BO) loves him" and "all his buddies on WS who lost billions think he is great".
CNBC seems to be taking a stand on this. Cramer, Kudlow, Faber, Burnett have all expressed uneasiness in the least. Nocera when interviewed said they should ask Voelker to "commit to a two year appointment to fix things."
sorry to intrude on the thread but this stuff going on on CNBC is riveting.

I'm trying to get to cnbc.com, but the site is giving an error message.
mary-
thanks for the heads up on a cramer meltdown, but can you clarify the cause?

I had it on before, they were screaming about the guy who blamed Turbo Tax for not paying his taxes. I forget his name and am too lazy to look it up right now.

Oh, and The One just set a new record, breaking his own rules in less than 24 hours.

Plus the latest; the Obama Party is becoming even more overt with their racism.

ndt-
the no lobbying thingy that obama is trying to float...
look no further than Tom Daschle. His wife is one of the biggest lobbyists in DC.
No word from obama on whether one's spouse can function as a lobbyist, which could fall under the realm of tom Delay using his wife to lobby being ok with the left.
Tom Daschle heading HHS, under the premise of massive expansion of funding, with a wife with strong lobbying connections is a recipe for corruption. Considering that Bill clinton can take money from foreign govts for his 'foundation' while his wife is sec of state makes his lobbying policy absolutely laughable.

This is the Cramer video. It is a little bizarre, sort of like putting the fox in charge of the hen house. So now it's Kudlow, Cramer, Faber, Burnett and Nocera who are coming out expressing their uncomfortableness with this.

BTW, Caroline Kennedy was turned down by Patterson because she has tax, nanny, marital problems. Nanny problems, it's always nanny problems, probably another illegal alien.
Posted by: Lala (shill for Dan) | Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 04:00 PM
Interesting, nanny problems are what usually get Republicans. They are giving the treasury nominee a pass on his nanny problems, guess her problems may go far beyond her nanny.
Posted by: mary | Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 04:12 PM
Speaking of nannies, Fran Dresher intimated on Hannity last night that she was up for the job. And, rumor has it Cuomo is too. But then, who will file all the indictments?

So now Maria Bartirommo has a guy on who just said that Lehman was the watershed moment. (my word watershed because it best describes what he said) So I guess there is another voice questioning the nomination.
Posted by: mary | Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 04:21 PM
Shelby on with Maria Bartirommo, after a horrendous coughing fit, when asked about the Treasury appointment said "we ought to give the president the benefit of the doubt". Funny, did everyone give GWB "the benefit of the doubt" on his appointees and I missed it?
Posted by: mary | Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 04:41 PM
Caroline Kennedy's "tax" problems must be pretty serious if not paying taxes for half a decade isn't going to derail the Secretary of Treasury.

Kennedy from www.politico.com
The real reasons?
The New York Post's Haberman and Dicker pin down the subject of much buzz in New York today, with the airbrushed version of Kennedy's withdrawal having survived some four hours:
In a stunning revelation, a source close to Gov. David Paterson insisted this afternoon that the governor "had no intention" of picking Caroline Kennedy for New York's vacant senate seat - because she was "mired" in an issue over taxes, her nanny and possibly her marriage.
Kennedy was "mired in some potentially embarrassing personal issues," the source said, citing tax liabilities and worker compensation liabilities connected to the employment of a nanny.
The source also said the state of her marriage may have presented a problem as well.
"She has a tax problem that came up in the vetting and a potential nanny issue," the soruce said. "And reporters are starting to look at her marriage more closely," the soruce continued, refusing to provide any specifics.
Gossip columns have reported for more than a year that Kennedy's marriage to Ed Schlossberg is essentially over, and the gossip site Gawker.com has reported rumors that she's been linked to New York Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger.
The spin, recall, was that she had the job in her pocket, then withdrew over her uncle's illness.

What are the chances of getting two kennedys flopping around on the same day?
Posted by: mark l. | Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 06:03 PM
Why is it so hard for extremely rich people, and Kennedy is really rich because unlike the rest of the Kennedy clan, JFK only had two children, to hire nannies who are not illegal aliens and pay them within the law?? The woman must be worth upwards of $100 million and she can't deal with her own household w/out breaking the law, but she should go to the U.S. senate.
Good riddance.
