"Republican messaging, especially as regards minorities, has been terrible for years. Changing that while sticking with common sense conservative principles is precisely what the GOP must do."

You don't need to change the message. You need to get rid of the racism and racists in the GOP. Though I'd admit it wouldn't leave you with very many members.

"We as the base"

And here I thought you were an independent. Kind of tough keeping the story straight sometimes, huh?

shut-up jharp. I'm a registered Indie who votes Republican after leaving your nanny state party decades ago. What is it you don't get about that?

Harpie,
You are absolutely amazing. After what we witnessed in the campaign coming from the pulpit in O's church, you've got some balls smearing anybody in the opposition party as a racist. I don't view myself as a party person so I don't take it personally and I'm sure Dan doesn't view himself as such either. I'm not gonna tell you where racism is more prevalent. Ask Robert Reich though, if you're having any trouble figuring it out.

Dan,

I guess I'm not used to registered independents using the reference "we as the base" when referring to the GOP. I sorta thought the republican base was composed of registered republicans.

Go figure. The republican base is composed of registered independents. Who'd a thought.

It's not racism when a demonrat does it.......Just ask the former grand poobah of the KKK.

Thank god the leadership is starting to get it!

It was the Republican willingness to allow massive spending that made the differences between Republican and Democrat become blurred.

This combined with the backlash to the war and a president that refused to back down on issues that he felt were in our best interests.

Mix in a MSM that has lost all objectivity, or a semblance of fairness combined with insane amounts of money raised and you have a receipe for troll domination.

The party needs to return to it's roots of smaller govt, not the socialist crap the moonbats are trying to shove through. The American people are NOT like Pelosi, Reed, Frank, or the other democratic hacks. When you allow 535 people out of a country of 300 million to dictate Socialism to the masses the net result will be for a massive backlash that will manifest itself in the 2012 mid-term elections.

When the massive socialist spending spree we are in for over the next two years hits the pocketbooks of the middle class there WILL be a lashing out.

Maybe then the moonbats will crawl back under their rocks where they belong!

WW,
True that. I forgot about the universal get-out-of-jail-free card issued to every D by the registrar of voters.

"I guess I'm not used to registered independents using the reference "we as the base"

As I have voted straight ticket R for decades, Ithink I qualify as "the base." And as for my registration, it has been Indie since I left the D party long ago. I don't believe in putting party above country. That's why I reamin as I am - Independent - after my D party experience.

It would seem Mitch has got religion again. It is his actions not his words that we need to look at. He is a compromiser and butt kisser as a Senate leader and his new found conservative salvation is not convincing.
