Either Daschle Goes, Or McConnell and Boehner Must Go

Update: Outrageous. Apparently only citizens have to pay taxes.

PUNDIT PREP: Administration officials say the nomination will be fine -- they've gotten good feedback from senators. But the storm last night was ferocious, and they have to get through the next two days.

Michelle Malkin has a new item up on the very serious problems facing Tom Daschle. It seems to me that we have reached a sort of a crossroads here and it is time for us and others to step up. But any direct influence we do have is mostly focused on the Republicans.

Before we get to tax cheat Tom Daschle, let’s recall the names of the Bend Over Republicans who pooh-poohed Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner’s tax troubles and accused critics of “thinking in small political terms.”

There is no acceptable excuse for the type of tax problem Dashcle has. He failed to pay taxes on income well in excess of what a majority of Americans earn in a given year. This is a former Senate Majority Leader. It is a sad embarassment and a genuine stain on a new administration that they would even put forward such a man for a high position in government.

Be that as it may, given Daschle's tax avoidance on income of hundreds of thousands of dollars and a media with the nerve to suggest this may be "a speed bump" someone has to do something. And in our case that means the Republican leadership.

If our current leadership cannot muster enough public outrage over this gross misconduct to obstruct Daschle's appointment, then there is no reason to believe that they have what it takes to lead the Republican Party forward in a new direction.

We need to call for the withdrawal of Daschle as well as a firm stance on this issue by DC Republicans. And if they do not step up ... and win, then we must pledge to lobby for them to step down and to also make a concerted effort to argue against any and all Republican fundraising until they do.

It's time to draw a line in the sand, or start kicking sand in the faces of weak politicians incapable of accomplishing anything close to an adequate level of performance. And if they can't win on this issue, they also deserve a swift kick in the pants on their way out the door.

Why isnt the media ripping Dashle apart! I heard the editor of Newsweek actually defend him on MSNBC! All you have to do is look at Dashles voting record...he voted for almost every tax increase

Voted NO on $350 billion in tax breaks over 11 years.
Voted NO on across-the-board spending cut.
Voted NO on requiring super-majority for raising taxes.
Voted YES on blocking medical savings acounts.
Voted NO on Balanced-budget constitutional amendment.

In addition the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) - Daschle scores 15% by NTU on tax-lowering policies

To be quite honest, Obama should be saying that the time it will take the US to recover(from his spending) will be 'decades, not years.'

The only things likely to be stimulated are the upscale rim and car dealers, the crack cocaine industry, cigarette and alcohol manufacturers, and gambling centers.
