If he went to Baghdad for his speech he would have to cut back on the "uh's".

It gives the mortar team more time to dial in his location!

Come on troll regulars out there how about a little donation! You guys always claim to be "for the troops"!

Come-On Sock Puppet, Semper Fi Bro!

The troops are low on coffee, but Rangel's son was paid eighty large by Rangel's campaign for internet representation. This it seems is not illegal. It should be. Another example of the maelstrom of misbehavior by the Democratics in Congress.

"Rangel's son was paid eighty large by Rangel's campaign for internet representation"

What does he do, comment on blogs as jharp for the money? : )

Not for nothing, but that caffeine sludge that barely passes for G.I. coffee had a better application in degreasing engine parts.

Though I served long before gourmet coffee was even remotely thought of by the average American (Starbucks likely being a few shops in Seattle at the time) ... I'd gladly have a quality cup of Sumatran or Blue Mountain over Mississippi Mud any time. :P

I'll take "uh's" over "d'uh's" everyday of the week.

Hahaha. Rangel the Younger is too smart for that, Dan. It's too far below his pay grade.

"Between 2004 and 2007, Rep. Charles Rangel steered nearly $80,000 in campaign cash to an Internet company run by his son – paying lavishly for a pair of political Web sites so poorly designed an expert estimated one should have cost no more than $100 to create."

You know seek, coffee is used for trade in the Army, as was wampum among the Ind...Native Americans. If there is a shortage, you can reasonably assume some civilians who work for the Army have misappropriated a large amount of it to other uses than supplying it to the troops. We had an NCO in my company who once traded coffee, we always had excess amounts, for 2x4s, which were impossible to get for a short period of time at Fort Ord.

Halliburton made $3.5 billion dollars last year most of which were profits from the war.

It's my opinion that Halliburton can afford to pony up for coffee much easier than middle class Americans.

Why does Halliburton hate our troops?

as I read this (and other blogs) it comes to mind again that posters like JHarp owe the military a HUGE thank you for protecting their privilege to be as much of an asshole as no one can stand.

Just a thought.

"-- It's my opinion that Halliburton can afford to pony up for coffee much easier than middle class Americans. --"

Yeah, I don't think you really want that. They'll charge you $100 a bag plus expenses because blah blah contracting is hard blah blah price of gas blah blah profit margins.

Seriously, nothing is more patriotic than privatization of the military. Capitalism AND patriotism all rolled into one neat package.

"-- as I read this (and other blogs) it comes to mind again that posters like JHarp owe the military a HUGE thank you for protecting their privilege to be as much of an asshole as no one can stand. --"

Lolz! Yes, thank god for the US Military. Otherwise the government could tap jharp's phone, eminent domain his house, throw him in jail without a trial for the rest of my life, and zap him with tasers till he crocked.

(Aaaaand, Fred, TK, and Seek all popped woodies. Gross.)

Without the US Military, we'd be subject to the fickle whim of a unitary executive. No one would protect us. Oh thank heaven for our blessed military! What would we do without thousands of men in uniform stationed in third world countries ready to blindly and unquestioningly kill peasant farmers who probably couldn't find my country on a map without help.

They are clearly the only thing protecting our freedom of speech.

Good question. Do you have an answer?

Llamette, sweetie, you are so over the top. What's the matter really? Trouble with the essential other I'll bet. Take a Tylenol PM and call him/her in the morning. Everything will work out in the end.

"-- Llamette, sweetie, you are so over the top. --"

Just put your pants back on, walk away from the keyboard, and we won't talk about it. There's no shame in getting a torture woody.

I'm just illustrating to Gramps how incredibly useful our armed forces have been over the last 8 years.

No, I don't. But it is outrageous.

$3.5 billion x 1/10 of one percent = $3,500,000

That buys a lot of coffee.

A man risks his life and leaves his family for a year and we can't supply him with a good cup of coffee.

Why do we put up with bullshit like this?

Quit worrying, Dan, Xerxes is almost in charge. He will supply everything to everybody at no charge. All he has to do is say it, and it will happen. Or that's what our resident filthy liberals believe, anyway. I'll take a wait and see attitude, myself. I'm positive I won't have to wait very long to see how everything will go.

Oh, and one other thing. That son of a bitch O.J. Simpson was sentence to 15 years in prison. Hardly enough I might add, but at least I won't have to see that sob walking the streets...uh...golf courses, for the next few years. Of course, Xerxes might give OJ a pardon, who knows? OJ would make a great ambassador to Darfur.

I always figured O.J. would chop off another head and end up in prison.

Pretty sweet that no one got hurt and the despicable murdering bastard is going to spend the rest of his life (I hope) where he belongs. In prison.

So I guess our troops will just have to wait for their coffee.

But I think you're right. Obama will take care of it.

"-- Quit worrying, Dan, Xerxes is almost in charge. --"

See, I like this title because it makes the assumption that

A) Barack Obama is a Persian Shiite Muslim when - at best - one could accuse Obama of practicing the Sufi Islam common to Indonesia where he once lived. It's amusing to see conservatives fail so incredibly hard on the little details.

B) Obama is a legendary "God King" - a funny claim to hear the folks who hate him so much think.

Certainly no one was calling Bush a "God King" back in 2000. Quite the opposite. He was a daddy's boy yuppie failure riding in on name recognition under cover of his political identity. But while people later labeled Bush "King George the IV" after his blatant and unconstitutional power grabs, I don't think any liberal equated him with a god. I suppose Obama should take the title as a form of respect.

C) It paints Obama as some sort of transcontinental war-monger. Particularly ironic when he rode into office on the platform of de-escalation in the Middle East. Stacked up against the globe-trotting conqueror, Obama is sort of a "reverse-Xerxes".

D) My favorite is that this comparison would never have come about if not for the incredible popularity of the movie "300". This holds its own special irony, given that you've got a bunch of back country hicks who normally turn up their noses at "Hollywood Elites" and "Liberal Idealists" for more practical down-to-earth conservative world views chanting the name of a character from a Hollywood movie based on a very romanticized conflict thousands of years old.

I mean, its delusional from top to bottom with metaphors missing their marks by miles. Deconstructed, the comparison is laughable on any number of levels. And yet the wingnut commentators cling to the image of "Barack Obama as the Global Tyrant Conquering God King" like the bedridden sick in some sort of fever dream. Thrashing about at imaginary adversaries, they only end up hurting their own credibility.

It's sad, in a way. But still fun to watch.

I don't know about all the bullshit you just posted, llama boy, but I used Xerxes because STM did. I thought it was kinda funny. All that crap you just posted is just that...fertilizer.

I think STM used the term to make fun of you Obama-worshipping hypocrites, myself, but that's just my opinion. Mayhap STM will reveal the mystery in a future post. Hope so, anyway. LOL.

OJ Simpson won't last a year in prison. He will die on a cold concrete slab in a pool of his own blood, just like his wife.

Karma is a bitch.

Xerxes might give OJ a pardon, who knows? OJ would make a great ambassador to Darfur.

The level of implied racism in this post is astonishing.

You can also go to www.anysoldier.com and find individual soldiers who distribute goodies to their units. Helping our armed forces becomes addictive when you hear back from real soldiers who got your letter or package! Cheapest way to send goodies are Priority Mail flat rate boxes. The large size box is 10.95 all-in for military addresses (contents can't weight more than 20 lbs though). You have to fill out a white customs form, and don't try to send any hooch or perfume.

Here's another good one. http://www.opgratitude.com/
You can send in your old cell phones and they will receive up to $30.00 per phone.

"The level of implied racism in this post is astonishing."

Jesus, it's all racism all the time with you creeps. If I said bunny, you would say racism. If I say anything, it's implied racism with you people. Get a life, boy, and know that the black folks don't need a little white boy like you to protect them. They can take care of themselves. You white boys with a cause are sick. Hell, man, get a hobby or something.

Sorry just calling a spade a spade TK, or is that your job?

If there's nothing racist about it explain to me a few tings:

-Why Xerxes?

-Why would he pardon OJ? He has no connection to him, nothing in common other than the color of his skin. You seem to think all blacks are frinds or something.

-Why Darfur? Darfur isn't a country, why would they need an ambassador? And why OJ?

So no, it's not that you said "anything" it's that you chose your words very carefully. And I'm not trying to protect anyone, I was just pointing something out.

The level of ignorance here about how military contracting works is astonishing......If you people only knew half the truth.......you'd be much, much angrier.

"Why Xerxes?"

Uh, Xerxes wasn't black, dufus.

"Why pardon OJ?"

OJ was found guilty of a crime. He beat one rap, it just figures he might get lucky enough to beat another. A pardon from Obama seems the only way to beat this one. Or maybe the governor of Nevada could pardon him. Who the hell knows the governor of Nevada?

"Why Darfur?"

Because it would be stupid to post an ambassadorship to Darfur, which is a region in the Sudan, and not a country.

Yes, I chose my words carefully, but racism was not my intent. But you assholes try to discredit anyone who criticizes or makes fun of Obama with the racism label. I say the hell with you and those tactics.

Yes, Xerxes wasn't black but he was certainly darker than you and for many bigots that's enough.

As for the rest, keep backpeddling. I think your intentions were pretty clear.

Hmm, OJ and Darfur are in the news...as are the prezzy pardons. Someone makes mention of these together with the guy who will likely be pres-elect next week....somehow with a giant leap of bigotry, someone else begins screaming racist. I guess it's like looking for a tree. Search hard enough and you'll surely find one.

Yeah, I know what your intentions are, too. Any criticism of Obama will be deemed racist. Screw you, I say. And you can have no idea of my intentions.

For my part, at $12 billion a month, I would think the troops would have all the high test coffee they could consume, especially having been in country for so many years.

Perhaqs Halliburtan has sold it all to Kuwait on the sly.

You can't reason with the fool, Willie. These people are intent on denying freedom of speech by either saying it is racist or it is hate speech. And we can't let them get away with it.

Some person here said: "A man risks his life and leaves his family for a year and we can't supply him with a good cup of coffee.
Why do we put up with bullshit like this?"

This same person said this on another thread:
"So what is the magic number we should be spending on defense? Since as it is now we spend what the rest of the world combined spends is that the number?"

Does this person contradict himself? Certainly. Why? Because this person emotes instead of thinks.

A person said this on this thread: "
Halliburton made $3.5 billion dollars last year most of which were profits from the war.
It's my opinion that Halliburton can afford to pony up for coffee much easier than middle class Americans.
Why does Halliburton hate our troops?"

So many things wrong with these brief statements that they form a classic of their type. Let us savor one. He claims Halliburton made more in profit than they spent making it. That means they made 100%+ in profits. Does this person offer any evidence for this astonishing claim? No, because there is none:

"Halliburton Income Statement [from Google Finance]
-----------------Sep 08------------2007------------2006
Total Revenue 4,853.00 15,264.00 12,955.00
Gross Profit 1,128.00 3,739.00 3,529.00"

Well that didn't work out very well. Nevermind.

Shoulda stayed with the thread, i see, istead of being distracted.
LLama, I was one of those who protected Harp's and YOUR privileges, thus I know pretty well how it works.

Glad to see you carry on the tradition.

I just got this from a friend in the UK....is this true?
Before you buy your next cup of coffee - think about the troops.....

Recently, Royal Marines in Iraq, wrote to Starbucks because they

wanted to let them know how much they liked their coffees, and to

request that they send some of it to the troops there.

Starbucks replied, telling the Marines thank you for their support of their business, but that

Starbucks does not support the war, nor anyone in it, and that they would not send the troops their brand of coffee.

So as not to offend Starbucks, maybe we should support them by NOT buying any of their products! I feel we should get this out in the open.

I know this war might not be very popular with some folks, but

that doesn't mean we don't support the boys on the ground,

fighting street-to-street and, house-to-house. If you feel the same as I do then pass this along. Thanks very much for your support. I know you'll all be there again when I deploy once more.

Sgt. Howard C. Wright 1st Force Recon Co 1st PLT.

PLEASE DON'T DELETE THIS. .. PLEASE PASS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR

E- MAIL LIST, IN MEMORY OF ALL THE TROOPS WHO HAVE DIED, SO THAT WE MAY HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE!

Also, don't forget that when the Twin Trade Towers were hit, the fire fighters and rescue workers went to Starbucks because it was close by for water for the survivors and workers, and Starbucks CHARGED THEM! ! !

AN ADDED NOTE TO THIS: STARBUCKS HAD STORES ON SEVERAL MILITARY

BASES IN THE UNITED STATES. THEY ARE NOW BEING REMOVED BECAUSE OF THIS.

There are 227 Starbucks stores across the UK, and there's no doubt that our soldiers would get the same response from this company, so let us do our bit and boycott Starbucks to show them how despicable their actions are.
