Can it be far behind? I hate to say it because I think we would all actually enjoy a less divisive tone to our national political discourse. Still, the fact remains that from battle space preparation, consistent opposition and weakening your opponent at every turn, the Left gets it and many DC Republicans insist on playing nice. Bush is a prime example of that.
From passing bills with Kennedy to his rhetoric, he tried his damnedest to "change the tone" in Washington. Look what it got him? Every weakness exploited and every name called him by an opposition determined to win. As Obama plans the most liberal domestic agenda for America this country has seen since the New Deal, it might be wise for Republicans to realize you have to play the game to win.
I'm not talking about becoming unhinged, simply asking every question that can be asked. Sadly, Gingrich, whom I like, will now not emerge as a leader of sorts for any new Right. If the fight has gone out of the old dogs in the GOP, perhaps it's time for the new dogs to bite. I understand how reasonable people might disagree with that. The fact remains, bi-partisanship has shown itself to be a failed strategy time and time, again.
I was saddened to learn that at a time of national trial, when a president-elect is preparing to take office in the midst of the worst financial crisis in over seventy years, that the Republican National Committee is engaged in the sort of negative, attack politics that the voters rejected in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles.
The recent web advertisement, “Questions Remain,” is a destructive distraction. Clearly, we should insist that all taped communications regarding the Senate seat should be made public. However, that should be a matter of public policy, not an excuse for political attack.
In a time when America is facing real challenges, Republicans should be working to help the incoming President succeed in meeting them, regardless of his Party.
From now until the inaugural, Republicans should be offering to help the President-elect prepare to take office.
Furthermore, once President Obama takes office, Republicans should be eager to work with him when he is right, and, when he is wrong, offer a better solution, instead of just opposing him.
This is the only way the Republican Party will become known as the “better solutions” party, not just an opposition party. And this is the only way Republicans will ever regain the trust of the voters to return to the majority.
This ad is a terrible signal to be sending about both the goals of the Republican Party in the midst of the nation’s troubled economic times and about whether we have actually learned anything from the defeats of 2006 and 2008.
The RNC should pull the ad down immediately.

No respect for Newt here.
He's smart enough to see the RNC has got nothing and is only making the GOP look bad. Unlike the 25%ers who are too dam dumb to see it.

I'd file this under, 'money see, monkey do'.
The ouster of the gop in 2006 was a product of negative attacks, in many cases, very richly deserved, by democrats. Newt shouldn't be ignoring the work product of fitzgerald...
This is the way it has to be. We can no longer expect an honest govt if our only means of finding guilt is thru examination of large money exchanges, or dollars in a freezer. Pay to play, is the evolution from last centuries simple bribery schemes. Would I use the 'seat for sale' as club for Obama? I'd take him at his word on this, but the fact of the matter remains that his chief of staff's knowledge of the corruption occuring in chicago should be fully examined.

"Newt shouldn't be ignoring the work product of fitzgerald..."
He isn't. You again totally miss the point. There is no connection to Obama. None. And just making shit up doesn't help the GOP. That is Newt's point. And I'll give him credit for recognizing it.
Posted by: jharp | Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 03:18 PM
I completely agree that obama has nothing to do with this tiny tip of the iceberg. I don't need any investigation to accept it.
The long term problem for Obama remains the rest of the iceberg. The gop should keep its powder dry, in regard to obama, until such a time where more facts of the Illinois/Chicago corruption investigation are revealed, which is 90% of the unknowns still to be discovered.
but...
If Rahm Emmauel was a participant in the Senate Seat auction, and failed to intervene in this corruption by contacting investigators, then he cannot serve as the President's chief of staff.
Posted by: mark l. | Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 03:49 PM
"If Rahm Emmauel was a participant in the Senate Seat auction"
And if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle.
Again, there is no evidence that Emmanuel was a participant. None.
I think Newt needs to prove he had nothing to do with it. How can we know without proof?
Posted by: jharp | Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 04:08 PM
"How can we know without proof?"
sounds like we need a special prosecutor. (I'm kidding about the special prosecutor)
gosh, how pathetic would the gop be to pursue the president on any charge, just to reduce his ability to govern?
please tell us about your own experiences in this matter, jharp.
newt called for a release of the tapes, which will tell a lot. I'd withhold judgement on Rahm until those tapes are examined. I believe, even if he knew there was crime being committed and failed to report it, no criminal violations could be charged.
otoh-There was no crime in trent lott's poor choice of words at Helms' b-day party. Fat lot of good in the public's judgment. clearly there is a threshold below criminality which may exclude one from high ranking posts.

"otoh-There was no crime in trent lott's poor choice of words at Helms' b-day party. Fat lot of good in the public's judgment. clearly there is a threshold below criminality which may exclude one from high ranking posts."
It was Thurmond's b-day and we must remember that the left believes that there is no such thing as crime, no dirty dealing, no misuse of office, no sexual harrassment or racism unless committed by a repugnican. How else would you explain such things as Teddy the K and the Grand Pooba of the KKK?

My 2 cents? If there is evidence of a crime, it must be investigated. No exceptions. No matter how "important" the alleged perpetrator is. And it has nothing to do with reducing one's ability to govern. It's about Justice.
For instance, George Bush alleged war crimes should be fully investigated. And if there is enough evidence, he should be brought to trial.

Willie and mark l,
Do you suppose trolling to give a blowjob in an airport restroom or buying hookers is reason enough to be unfit for the U.S. Senate?
I guess we already know patronizing hookers makes one unfit to be Governor of New York.
Posted by: jharp | Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 06:09 PM
Give it a rest, jharp. You supported a corrupt politician to the highest office in the land. You fell for his campaign bullshit like a lemming waddling off the cliff. Now you'll have to spend the next 4 years defending his questionable judgement and associations...all the while comparing them to your great satan, george bush.
Sorry the whole liberal agenda thing ain't working out for ya. Obie's gonna be busy tap dancing from scandal to scandal rather than sending you your tax welfare check. The peace dividend will be blown with our continued presence in Iraq and the transfer of troops to Afghanistan. Looks like you'll have to disappoint the wife and kids at Christmas again this year.
Poor, sad jharp.

Newt McCain is dead wrong. We need to expose the Dems corruption rapidly. 2010 is just around the bend. Going negative works. Dems have won 2 elections using " Bush Sux" as a strategy..

"Do you suppose trolling to give a blowjob in an airport restroom or buying hookers is reason enough to be unfit for the U.S. Senate?"
first of all we dont know if he wanted to give or receive,at least he wasnt in the oval office, but at any rate my point was that folks like yourself wouldn't care if a demonrat was standing over a dead girl.....it would be his personal business, but if a repub stole a legal pad from supply it would be a high crime.

"You supported a corrupt politician to the highest office in the land."
There is no evidence. None, nada, zilch, zero that Obama is corrupt. And you know it.
"Sorry the whole liberal agenda thing ain't working out for ya."
Very funny! And how's the conservative agenda working out for you? Let's see. The most liberal Senator in the Congress was just elected President in a landslide. Conservatives have lost about 70 house seats. And conservatives have lost about 20 Senate seats. In teo short years.
And in case you didn't hear Norm Coleman is under investigation by the F.B.I. and likely to lose his Senate seat to the Liberal Al Franken.
2008 was and is a very good year. Go liberalism. Next up, Supreme Court Justices!
Posted by: jharp | Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 08:09 PM
"that folks like yourself wouldn't care if a demonrat was standing over a dead girl."
Nonsense, Willie. Utter nonsense.
Put me on the record that along with Obama I agree that Blago should resign. And probably go to jail.
And whether or not Senator Craig was trying to give or get a hummer is irrelevant. My question was is he fit to be a Senator. And you ignored whether Vitter is fit for office or not.
Do you think Governor Spitzer should not have resigned?
Posted by: jharp | Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 08:15 PM
Harpie, Harpie, Harpie.......Maybe I've just wasted my time here, I dunno but I've written extensively my thoughts on what a bunch of immoral, low life gaggle of miscreants inhabit politics. Let's try to make it clear for you boo boo. No, absolutely not do I think whoremongers, public restroom gloryhole seekers, thieves, or former KKK members, used car salesmen or lawyers and especially drunks who kill innocent women are fit to lead anything but a baccanau. See, I dont care if they are gay, I dont care if a single man seeks out a whore. Hell, I dont even care if someone steals a steno pad. But if you can't be honest and faithful in your marriage, if you can't keep your hands out of the cookie jar and if you can't handle your liquor.....you WONT take care of the people who put their trust in you. The difference between us is that you sir are partisan about it.....I am not.
Posted by: WAHOO WILLIE | Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 08:58 PM
"Conservatives have lost about 70 house seats. And conservatives have lost about 20 Senate seats."
Actually it was republicans, which even a Jay Leno street interviewie would know does not necessarily mean conservative....Thought you would be smarter than the average Chicago public school student.
Posted by: WAHOO WILLIE | Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 09:00 PM
"See, I dont care if they are gay"
You are a closet liberal.
I'm no partisan either. Our Senators are Evan Bayh and Richard Lugar and I support Lugar 10 times over Bayh.
I almost considered myself a liberal republican until the wingnuts took over the GOP.
You want to see a couple of horses asses for Congressman check out Mike Pence and Dan Burton. A big reason for my anti Republicanism lately.

What do you think Emanuel was discussing?
We know what Blagojebitch and Harris were discussing.
What do you think Emanuel was hearing?
We pretty well know what Blagojebitch and Harris were saying.
With that, what did Emanuel report to Mr.Obama?
We are going to hear the UBER-EGO Emanuel on tape. We are going to hear Blagojebitch et al, trying to elicit a quid pro quo of some sort.
When this comes out, the ETHICAL question will be. What did Emanuel and Obama know of Blagojebitch's extortion and when did they know it.
AND!
Did they report it to the F.B.I.?

We need to fight liberalism every step of the way.
Jharp illustrates why, without even knowing it. Liberals believe that they are moderate. They believe that they are right/correct and everyone else is moot. They believe that THEIR MEANS are always justified by THEIR ENDS and vice versa. A crime only counts if the Criminal (Bill Clinton) has an ideology that they disagree with. Please remember LIBS are ALWAYS right/correct. But most of all JHARP believes that anyone who is Republican and is not for welfare and abortion is ULTRA-RIGHT WING and FASCIST. George W.Bush has been excoriated from start to finish. He has been magnanimous in his decorum and demeanor toward his hater/detractors. He has met half way on NUMEROUS occasions and issues...yet.....all those on the left have SHIT on him every chance they've gotten. WAHOO WILLIE you understand it. Democrats/Liberals are not willing to meet you 1% of the way to the middle. Liberals will rip EVERY Republican who doesn't abide their culture of Socialism, Failure and Abortion. McCain is too stupid to learn that shaking hands with a liberal is hazardous to your hand.
Posted by: gus | Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 11:12 PM
Did JHARP just post that John Kerry's admission to war crimes and complicity must be investigated and prosecuted?
Stooges like JHARP are the problem. Liberalism is a disease, JHARPS mom, dad, or whatever combo, he grew up with didn't raise him right/correct.
America is great, and jharp's sorry ass is free because of men who defend him. George Bush is not a perfect man, but Jharp should pray that someday he has such character and honor.

"We need to fight liberalism every step of the way."
Hey gus. News flash for ya.
The battles of 2006-08 are over. You lost. The liberals won. Get used to it.
White House? Gone. The most liberal member of Congress just won in a landslide.
Senate? The liberals have taken over. About 20 seats in two years.
The House? The liberals have taken over. About 70 seats in two years.
The Supreme Court? Soon to follow. Please stay tuned.

And it wouldn't have worked if Bush hadn't sucked.

how bad are we going to allow things to get??/with Emmanuel being discovered he pushed for a million illegals to get made citizens right before Bill Clinton's ron for POTUS and now we find out Richardson did the same with Native Americans and Hispanics this election and along with ACORN this election was not won it was bought at the expense of stupidity..now we see these states going bankrupt because of all benefits illegals got (but never have paid into system)California and New York these guys got illegals nationalize without backgroung checks hope they all get
their DUES....
